Manzoor Memon in his comments stated that Farooq Samad is responsible for major financial frauds and now has the guts to scare honest people like him. ISLAMABAD: When powerful men meet to discuss explosive issues, things can change in a big way. And that is precisely what happened after a highly secretive and immensely important meeting at the Presi-dency a few days back. The subject, not unexpectedly, being the fate of American killer Raymond Davis and that of Pakistan-US relations. Little did anyone know at the time that the huddle would instead end up decid-ing the fate of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The meeting, convened by the president was attended by Prime Minis-ter Gilani, Babar Awan, Rehman Malik, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the DG ISI Gen Shuja Pasha. The president was given an exhaustive overview of the entire situation but quite early in the meeting it be-came evident that two of the men were standing on the wrong side of the prevalent dominant wisdom and desire of somehow finding a way to retrospectively cough up diplomatic immunity for Davis and to just wish away all the four deaths and the lingering crisis. But since one of the ‘erring’ two dared not be arbitrarily fired, poor Qureshi’s fate stood sealed. Extreme pressure was exerted in the meeting on the former for-eign minister to renege from his earlier stance and simply tell the court that the Foreign Office was in consonance with the American interpre-tation of Davis being a genuine diplomat and enjoying full immunity under Vienna Convention 1961. Facts be damned. According to highly reliable sources, interior ministry’s immense resources were also offered to cause any necessary change of documentation or any exceptional service warranted under these exceptional circumstances. An adamant Qureshi, who had strongly argued the case that Raymond did not enjoy unlimited diplomatic immunity under law, flatly refused and even said that if need be, he’d rather resign than become an accessory to multiple murder. The meeting ended on a rather unsavory and unexpected note. It was a surprising outcome for all the others because Qureshi had always been perceived, and even pilloried by the media, as being an American lackey and was not expected to dig in his heels over an issue so vital for the US administration. But Qureshi’s latest run in with the Americans did not begin or end inside the Presidency. It had actually begun much earlier on January 28, a day after the deadly Raymond Davis incident in Lahore. He was in Karachi when he first received a call from US Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter and then had a conversation with US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Munter requested him for immediate councillor access to Davis and his immediate handover to US Consulate authori-ties. Qureshi asked Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir to talk to Munter and while authorizing immediate councilor access to Davis made it clear to the foreign secretary that the matter of release would only be decided by the court as the legal process had already been kicked into motion in Punjab. Then came Hillary’s call. An understandably perturbed Hillary wanted the immediate handover of Davis and insisted that Pakistan was violating the Vienna Convention by the illegal incarceration of a “US diplomat”. Confirming the contents of that conversation to The News, Shah Mehmood said that he had patiently explained to Hillary that while he understood her anxiety she too had to understand the highly emo-tive and sensitive nature of the incident. And also that since the judicial process had been kick-started in Lahore, the Foreign Office and the US had little option but to submit to the due process of law. Anyway, the two decided to discuss the matter on the sidelines of the then forthcom-ing Munich Security Conference, and the line went silent. Since then, Ambassador Munter and other senior embassy officials remained busy with engaging Pakistani authorities and the Foreign Office, blowing hot or cold, depending upon the level of their own frustration and the pres-sure coming their way from Washington. A few days prior to the Munich Conference, Qureshi received a call from Ambassador Munter who said that he had been directed to convey the message that unless Qureshi signed the diplomatic immunity paper prior to the conference, the

scheduled meeting between him and Hillary would stand cancelled. The message was starkly clear a la George Bush: You are either with us or against us. So be it, Qureshi is reported to have told the ambassador and even cancelled his trip altogether. The chief of the army staff went in-stead to Munich and that is an appointment that even the US secretary of state cannot cancel, Davis or no Davis. Once Qureshi ignored the latest Hillary communiqué, the Americans stopped talking to him altogether because it had now become evident that Qureshi was not going to budge on his stance of Davis not being eligible for full diplomatic immunity. Qureshi was no longer a welcome dinner guest and neither could he be allowed to remain in office. The last thing Washington can afford is his having a Pakistani foreign minister with a reawakened conscience. Ac-cording to highly reliable sources, the next claimed scalp may be that of the equally intransigent (from American perspective), Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir who is now the only remaining top level hurdle in the apprehended shameless handover of Davis by a compromised political leadership. The foreign secretary is also of the considered firm view that Davis does not qualify for full immunity. And there are legitimate causes for this argument, which were further exposed by glaring inconsistencies in the forever changing US stance on the issue. Owing to the paucity of space, irrefutable arguments proving Davis’ ineligibility are not being reproduced here and also because a lot has already been written on the legal aspects of the subject, including the highlighted fact that in the ini-tial reaction by US authorities, Raymond Davis was identified as merely an “employee” of the US Consulate in Lahore, but never as a diplomat. He was referred to as an employee and not a consulate general official. “It was a simple clerical error” was the incredulous justification offered by two senior members of the Islamabad embassy in an off-the-record conversation with the scribe. But it gets even better. A lot is being made by the Americans and their interlocutors of the January 20, 2010 com-munication of the Islamabad embassy wherein the FO had been asked for the issuance of a non-diplomatic identity card for Davis. It is being argued that this communication clearly identifies Raymond Davis as be-ing administrative and technical staff of Islamabad embassy and there-fore automatically eligible for diplomatic immunity. But this is only half the story. Certain discrepancies in 2010 had already caused the Foreign Office to seek clarifications. In Sept 2009, the US State Department had originally identified him as technical advisor (contractor) going on “of-ficial business” while applying for his visa. Later he was attached to US Consulate Lahore as an employee. So when his name popped up again in January 2010, identifying him as being attached with the US Embassy Islamabad, the FO wanted answers to some very pertinent questions. The relevant FO officials repeatedly asked the US embassy to provide the de-tails of Davis’ new responsibilities along with those of his past postings. When weeks had passed with the embassy avoiding a categorical clari-fication on this count, the FO finally sent a formal Note Verbale to the US embassy on July 8, 2010. It bore ref no: P(1-A)/2009-ID(USA). This note pertained to a total of ten Americans about whom similar details were being sought from the embassy but no response had been forth-coming from the US end. Davis was listed as Note No:252/HR. When FO authorities were asked about the presence of 2009 in the reference number of the note verbale otherwise sent on July 8, 2010, they clarified that it was perfectly in accordance with their internal filing sequence and did not reflect any anomaly. Unable to cover this critical gap in their argument to secure Davis’ release on the afterthought alibi of diplomatic immunity, the US embassy has adopted the rather incredulous argument of denying outright the existence of this critical correspondence. The FO has been told at the highest level that the US embassy never received this Note Verbale. The two senior functionaries stuck to the denial man-tra when asked by The News about the embassy’s refusal to divulge the real assignments and other details of Davis and nine others. They insist-ed that all the embassy records had been thoroughly checked but there was no evidence of the cited note verbale ever being received. When they were told that the July 8 note was present in FO records and its existence and its having been sent to US embassy was recorded in more than one place and constituted a process that could not be tampered with within hours of an event taking place, the duo took the reference number of the ‘missing note’ to ostensibly try locating it from their records. This raises an interesting question: if they still needed the reference number at this stage, then how did they even check their records earlier? Can you name a single other incidence where prior to this particular note verbale or since, any note verbale sent by FO to the US embassy has ever gone missing? the two functionaries were asked. Not surprisingly, the duo could not cite a single such incidence. Interesting coincidence one must say, where the entire US administration makes critical clerical errors which only expose Davis as being a non-diplomat. Another interesting coincidence again, when only one specific official communication out of hundreds of similar exchanges goes missing, and which once again stood to expose Raymond Davis for being anything but a legitimate diplomat on a legitimate diplomatic assignment.

MQM Should Start Revolution from Karachi

K. Ashraf

Does Altaf Hussain really believe in revolution or is he just using the slogan of revolution as a political rhetoric? We doubt MQM lead by Altaf Hussain know the rudi-ments of revolution or has the ability to launch revolution in Pakistan. We think he is just another demagogue using the rhetoric of revolution as a political ploy. Were he a revolutionary he would have launched revolution in Ka-rachi long time ago. He had all the opportunities, such as the street power, the political power, the guns, the power to collect taxes from businesses and individuals. He never used these advantages to launch the revolution in Kara-chi. Karachi is an ideal city to launch the revolution. It is industrial hub of Pakistan. It has enough of labor force to start, implement, and strengthen the revolution. Karachi can be a model revolutionary city for Pakistan. Under General Musharaf the MQM had controlled Sindh. Par-ticularly, Karachi was under absolute control of MQM. The model of a parallel system was also under practice in Sarhad by MMA. If General Musharaf allowed MMA to establish so called Islamic System in Sarhad why MQM did not follow the model and established a revolution-ary government in Sindh or at least in Karachi? Okay, this opportunity was lost. MQM did not think about the revolution at that time. What is holding MQM now from launching the revolution in Karachi? Altaf Hussain is in the best position to take over all the factories, houses, businesses and hang all the cruel capitalists on the lamp posts of Karachi and start the revolution. If Altaf Hussain does not want to follow the example of MMA, Pakistan has two countries in its neighborhood that have two systems at a time: India and China. India has a Marx-ist government in West Bengal. It is working fine within Indian political system. Socialist China has a capitalist Hong Kong within its socialist set-up. It is also perform-ing real well. MQM should show its sincerity and com-mitment to revolution and launch it in Karachi. We know the industrial centers with large labor force are the ideal and conducive locations for it. A successful revolution in Karachi will be good starting point for launching revolu-tion elsewhere in Pakistan. Once revolution takes place in Karachi, the rest of the people of Pakistan will follow the experiment and we are sure many revolutionaries in rest of the country will join hands with MQM and start the revolution in the country. Go for it Mr. Altaf Hussain. Make the Karachi the starting point for revolution. We are anxiously waiting for it.

Muslim Charity Squandered Money For PoorDale Brazao - Jesse McLean Staff Reporter

Mohammad Ashraf, long-time leader of the Islamic Society of North America Canada, is at the centre of a controversy involving mismanaged charity donations and free perks for family members. Devout Muslims donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to one of Canada’s largest Islamic organizations on the promise that the cash would be used to help the poor. But only one in four dollars donated to a special pool of money at the Islamic Society of North America Canada (ISNA Canada) actually reached the needy. Mismanagement of more than $600,000 is among the findings in a scathing audit obtained by the Star. A “very small portion . . . is distributed to the poor and needy and the major portion is spent on the administration of the centre,” concluded the 2010 audit of the previous four years. ISNA Canada

is embroiled in controversy, with the audit revealing the practice of giving free perks to family members of a top official; the improper issuing of charitable tax receipts; and the diversion of charity money to private businesses. At the centre of it all is long-time secretary general Mohammad Ashraf, who has recently announced he is step-ping down. Ashraf would not answer a series of questions from the Star. “Don’t ask me anything,” Ashraf told a reporter who visited the organization’s Mississauga headquarters, marked by a graceful mina-ret overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Way. The 73-year-old microbi-ologist said he is “being transitioned into retirement” and that he is “restricted” from commenting on the audit. ISNA Canada’s elected president, Mohamed Bekkari, told the Star in an interview Wednesday that his organization will toughen financial protocols as a result of the audit. All financial authority has been removed from Ashraf, he said. Bekkari called the findings of the audit, by chartered accountant Fa-reed Sheik, “unsettling” and a new audit will be ordered that will dig deeper. The first audit warns that ISNA would risk losing charity sta-tus if things are not done differently. For more than 30 years, Ashraf has been the leader of ISNA, a national organization that is also the hub for Mississauga’s Muslim community. It houses the city’s most visible mosque and provides a variety of services, including a Muslim high school and a halal meat certification agency. ISNA Canada draws in close to $1 million in charity donations a year. The audit looked closely at one portion of those donations, an obligatory alms giving called Zakat and Fitrah meant to aid the needy. The audit found that of about $810,777 collected over four years, only $196,460 went to aid the poor. After prayer, Zakat is considered by some Muslims to be the most important pillar of the Islamic faith. It requires Muslims to give a minimum of 2.5 per cent of their Continues Pg 7

The Legacy of The finaL Messenger of aLLah (pbuh) “We have noT senT you (o MuhaMMad) buT as a Mercy To The universe.” [Qur’an 21:107].

The Prophet is Born At a chaotic period in history when the murky clouds of impropriety covered the firmament of the world; when injustice, tumult and turmoil was rampant; when human dignity was at its lowest ebb, when young girls were entombed alive for being female, when the crevice between the exploiter and exploited was incessantly mounting; when corruption, lascivious modes of behavior, moral degeneration were increasing; when superstition, racial discrimination and oppression was the order of the day … at that time, a Prophet was born; descending from the dynasty of Abraham the idol-breaker, Moses the pharaoh-fighter, and Jesus the benevolent (peace be upon them). “Four years after the death of (Roman emperor) Justinian, in 569 A.D., was born at Makkah in Arabia , the man who of all men, exercised the greatest influence upon the human race, Muhammad” [Anglo-Ameri-can historian and philosopher, Dr John William Draper, A History of the Intellectual Development of Europe ] Sunnah of Compassion Allah refers to this greatest influence upon the human race (pbuh) as “a mercy unto all existence” and as an “ideal exemplar”. These appellations were not mere titles given to the Prophet, but were rather apt descriptions of his character and attitude. Some scholars have therefore gone as far as to declare mercy as the central ethos of Islam. Those among us who claim to walk in his footsteps need to ensure that we reflect that mercy in our own lives. An integral part of our manifesting his sunnah (practices and mannerisms) is that we give priority to those aspects of social engagement that he himself most concerned himself with. Each one should ask whether the poor, the needy, the orphan and the oppressed are areas of our concern. How much of our religiosity is informed and shaped by Prophetic statements like … - “One who strives to help the widows and the poor is like the one who fights in the way of Allah. I shall regard him as the one who stands up (for prayer) with-out rest and as the one who observes fasts continuously.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] - “He who takes care of an orphan, whether he is his relative or a stranger, will be in paradise with me like these

two”. The Messenger of Allah raised his forefinger and middle finger together by way of illustration. [Muslim] Do we ever include in our prayers Prophetic sentiments like “O Allah, let me live among the poor, die among the poor and be raised on the Day of Judgment among the poor”? It must be noted that this is not a prayer for poverty, rather an expression of the desire to be connected to those less fortunate and downtrodden. The most pervasive sunnah of the Prophet has always been one of com-passion and benevolence. Ideal Exemplar This best role model for all humanity had outstanding vir-tues and characteristics, he was an extraordinary husband, a perfect father, and a unique grandfather, a great statesman, judge, and spiritual leader. His most distinctive quality, however, was the fact that he was a blessing to all in both word and deed. He infused justice, love, and dignity in all those around him. In the words of the Hindu scholar and historian, Professor Ramakrishna Rao, “The personality of Muhammad is most difficult to get the whole truth of it. Only a glimpse of him I can catch. What dramatic succession of picturesque scenes? There is Muhammad the Prophet; there is Muhammad the General; Muhammad the King; Muhammad the Warrior; Muhammad the Businessman; Muham-mad the Preacher; Muhammad the Philosopher; Muhammad the Statesman; Muhammad the Orator; Muhammad the Reformer; Muhammad the Refuge of Orphans; Muhammad the Protector of Slaves; Muhammad the Emancipator of Women; Muhammad the Judge; Muhammad the Saint… In all these magnificent roles and in all these departments of human activities he is equally a hero.” [Professor Ramakrishna Rao, Mohammed: The Prophet of Islam] Perpetuate the Legacy When we consider our situation today; over fourteen hundred years after the exemplary mission of the Final Messenger, we realize that we are more than ever in need of such inspiration and motivation. We are indeed more in need of such a role model who represents the best legacy of our human heritage; a heritage of care and compassion; and whose life message was an embodiment of the universal values that we all can share.

Pakistan cricket is very unpredictable.By Syed Ali Anwer

The writer is a former journalist of a leading English daily and cur-rently Editor of the TCP. Corruption is a way of life in Pakistan, an accepted norm which is widely practiced in government departments such as Police, Excise and Customs and various other government agencies for as long as one cares to remember. However, over the years it has seeped into other areas also where previously it was not conceivable that it could possibly happen. Cricket in Pakistan is almost a religion where de-vout fans go into a virtual frenzy whenever the national team comes out to play and cheer their team on frantically because for many Pakistanis cricket offers a sense of joy, a feeling of pride as it is the ultimate opiate which helps in escaping temporarily from a world of daily grind and drudgery, from the violence and crime pervading the nation. Fans virtually idolize their cricketing heroes from both the past as well as the present where names like Imran Khan, Wa-sim Akram and Javed Miandad are known to every Pakistani while Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Mishbal-ul-Haq and Shoaib Akhtar are their present day heroes. It has therefore come as a stunning shock

which the nation is still reeling under when it came to light that three of the current cricket heroes namely Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and the new wonder kid Mohammad Amir were found guilty of spot fixing by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and slapped with a ten-year, seven-year and five year ban respectively. The decision has sent ripples of shock waves in cricketing circles throughout the world where reaction has been varied from shock, disbelief humilia-tion condemnation and sympathy. To add fuel to the simmering fire the trio has also been implicated in a Crowm Prosecution Services case in London which has instituted criminal charges against the three and the major provocateur Mazhar Majeed who enticed the three into spot-fixing. There are some who opine that the ban was a bit too harsh particularly in the case of Mohammad Amir who is only 18 years while others called for a life ban on the players for sullying the nation and Pakistan cricket. What makes it more difficult for the nation to accept is that the ban has come at a time when the nation desperately needs the services and talent of the trio as s cricket’s greatest extravaganza the World Cup 2011 starts in hardly two weeks

Pakistan has a large number of problems, the problem of unemploy-ment stands out as a significant one with the increase in the popula-tion, and the problem is assuming serious proportions. We find a large number of people in Pakistan, floating here and there in search of the jobs. Due to unavailability of proper career guidance, Paki-stani youth and our Memon community youth also faces tremendous difficulties once they complete their graduations. Definite statistics are not available on the subject, but statistics are badly required to prove what is obvious to every one. The fact of unemployment is somewhat hidden by the joint family system where every one is supported out of a common pool of income, and the religious in-stitutions which support a vast majority of people. We have three main types of unemployment, namely agricultural unemployment, industrial unemployment, and unemployment amongst the unedu-cated people. The causes of unemployment in agriculture are nu-merous. Firstly, the pressure of population on land is increasing and the farm can no longer employ and absorb the increased numbers. Secondly, the lack of subsidiary industries in the villages, adds to the unemployment. Thirdly, the agricultural operations keep the farmer busy only for a part of the year and for the rest of the months he is unemployed. This fact is referred to as under-employment, in our agriculture. Lastly, the uncertainty and vagaries of Pakistani Mon-soons render the agriculturist unemployed whenever the crops fail. That is why the Pakistani agriculture is said to be a gamble of the Monsoon. Due to all the above reason, the state of unemployment in agriculture is growing worse every day. As far as the causes of industrial unemployment are concerned, firstly our industrial system is unable to absorb the growing population, because the industrial development is not commensurate either with the vast resources of the country or with the growth of its population. Secondly, the loca-tion of industries is defective and uneconomic. There is overcrowd-ing in certain areas which results in the rise of cost of production. If the geographic distribution of the industries had been rationally planned, the industrial structure would have been more economical and its capacity for employment would have increased tremendously. Thirdly, the periodic occurrence of depressions in the industry brings about unemployment. Fourthly, the export industries have not been able to maintain their hold on foreign markets. Thus there has been a decrease in employment in the export industries which is transmitted to other industrial sectors. The remedy for industrial unemployment lies in stepping up industrial efficiency. Also the scope for the de-veloping various industries is immense. Agriculture is already over crowded and so are the liberal professions. Thus industry is the only hope for rooting out unemployment from the country. To achieve this, a complete overhauling, re-orientation and rationalization our industrial system is needed. Unemployment is increasing in Sindh: Unemployment in rural areas as well in Urban is the most daunt-

ing challenge being faced by the new Sindh government. The rural areas are fast losing their agriculture-based employment potential due to persistent shortage of water and land degradation. Almost 14 million people in rural Sindh directly depend on agriculture as their major source of livelihood. However, this source of livelihood and employment is under severe pressure due to variety of reasons. Drought, faulty water distribution mechanism, poor management of water resources, land degradation, lack of research and inept mar-ket policies are the few among the long list of reasons taking toll of agriculture economy. The situation can be gauged from the following table showing the decline in area under cultivation. The table show the decline in area sown under important crops from 1995-96 to 2004-05 Declining produce has a direct bearing on rural poverty and employment. A World Bank report, “Securing Sindh’s Future-The Prospects and Challenges Ahead” paints a very grim picture of unemployment in Sindh. It reveals that due to growing population, rise in literacy and migration, and nearly 600,000 additional people would be entering in job market each year in Sindh. This is in contrast with the long-term annual job creation rate of 350,000 in the province. Over the recent decade, Sindh has been frequently denied its due share in wa-ter distribution. Growers have been complaining that water shortage in canals and distributaries of Sindh has become a perennial prob-lem. The new government would have to tackle this issue through effective representation in IRSA and Wapda . Only judicious share and efficient use of water can improve agriculture-related employ-ment in rural Sindh. However, climate change effect is likely to in-crease in the coming years and availability of water in river system would continue to be a question mark. To manage this risk, there is a need to diversify employment opportunities both in rural as well as urban areas of the province. The Sindh government needs to explore non-conventional avenues to create employment opportuni-ties apart from revitalizing its agriculture sector. Agro-based indus-try could provide some relief but incentives are required to attract investment in rural areas. Poor law and order conditions and weak infrastructure has also been a barrier to growth of agro-based indus-try. The industry in Sindh is mainly concentrated in Karachi except handful of units in Hyderabad, Kotri and Sukkur. Presently, about 11,500 small and large industrial units are located in four major industrial areas of Karachi, providing employment to over 2.5 mil-lion people. Since rural Sindh has predominantly agriculture based economy, human resource required for industrial sector has not been developed there. No significant investment was made in infrastruc-ture required for promoting rural industry. Due to lack of demand and poor administration, institutes of vocational training and job skills are also in bad shape in rural areas. Presently, 45 polytechnic and mono-technical institutes are operating in Sindh having about

18,000 registered students. However only 8,000 of them studied in institutions located outside Karachi. Likewise, the Directorate of Manpower and Training is operating about 33 training centers including technical, apprenticeship and youth vocational training centers. Most of such centers in rural areas are dysfunctional due to various reasons. Proper training through revamped institutions could open doors of urban- based employment for rural youth. Quality education institutes in the rural areas also deserve atten-tion for creating human resource with advanced degrees. Public sector universities in rural Sindh are victims of lack of resources, quality faculty and infrastructure. Graduates from these univer-sities cannot compete with graduates from urban-based private sector institutions. This is resulting in frustration among qualified rural youth. Quality education institutions are mostly centered in Karachi, which are too expensive for lower and middle class fami-lies of rural areas. Presently, there are 25 HEC recognized degree awarding private sector institutes in Sindh; 23 of them are located in Karachi and remaining two in Hyderabad. From 2001/02 to 2005/06 these institutions produced over 36,000 graduates, all from Karachi except 900 from Hyderabad. Information technol-ogy is a promising sector offering wide spectrum of jobs nation-ally and internationally. However, rural areas are deprived from any significant benefit from this sector. According to a research report of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), this sector is providing jobs to about 138,000 employees and the number of job opportunities is expected to be around 235,000 in 2009-10. Rural areas are far from the scene. PESB website shows 1,161 registered IT companies in the country. This includes 412 in Karachi, 331 in Islamabad, 418 in Lahore and remaining in other cities/towns. In Sindh, some 25 institutions offer degree courses in IT sector; 23 of which are in Karachi alone and one each in Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar. Due to such gap of access to IT education, rural youth have very limited opportunities to benefit from this fast growing job market. It is time that quality education centers in IT should be established in all district headquarters to create more job opportu-nities for educated youth from rural areas. The Sindh government should devise a comprehensive strategy to tackle the challenge of unemployment specially in rural areas. It would be advisable set up a ‘human resource development and employment authority’ to execute long-term strategies for creating job opportunities for rural and urban youth to reach out to national and international job markets. To create a socio-economic balance in urban and urban areas, there is a dire need to provide basic educational training facilities and employment opportunities across the province.

time in South Asia. So the question arises is this the beginning of the end of Pakistan Cricket as we see it. TCP, spoke to a cross section of society to sum up their opinion from sports journalists, experts and just common people who have one thing in common, a passionate and undying love for the game of cricket. Speak-ing to TCP, Rishad Mahmood, the Sports Editor of Daily Dawn, Pakistan’s leading English daily expressed his views that the ban was aptly expected as more or less it was predicted that the ban would be as specified. Asked if this was the end of the trio’s careers, he stated that it would be difficult for Salman and Asif to make a comeback while Amir had a chance because of his young age but that too if younger and greater talent was not discov-ered in the five years. About what the role the PCB should play to avoid recurrence of such ugly incidents, Rishad pointed out that PCB should establish a code of conduct and ethics whereby players are not allowed under any circumstances to associate or fraternize with outside elements whatsoever especially on foreign tours. Comments by Chenn you published in the Feb-ruary 2011 newspaper were an eye opener. Just imagine that this person is doing ultrasound, vascular and echocardiography imaging . Without any certification he is teaching at sugar land im-aging. Imagine the state of affair. I challenge him to bring his credentials at any place he names and I will pay him $100.00. His wife NAJMA AIJAZ who is a Harris County ultrasound Technician holds the following certifications as per ARDMS. RDMS, FE(2009), OB(2001) her license is valid till 12/31/2011. Pakistani EstablishmentCurrently, Pakistani Establishment consists of all top politicians of main political parties, top generals, top civil servants and top businessmen. After last elections, they have formed an unofficial unholy alliance based on preservation of foreign and personal interests. They have agreed to pay attention to donors and divide the pot among themselves. They assume pro-tection from abroad, army and each other. “Make money and transfer it abroad and eventu-ally live happily overseas” is the motto. They have agreed ignore common people’s interest. But the world is changing. Tunisian youth started demands of jobs, justice, and democracy. Egyptians have quickly followed. They may be nearing success at the expense of similar unholy alliances which have lasted for decades. Rulers of Jordan, Yemen, and Algeria have taken notice and have begun to act. Kings and Amirs are shaking. There is a message in all this for Pakistani establishment too. If the people stand up, overseas masters cannot protect you. Domestic allies begin to run away quickly. It can happen very quickly. It is time to listen to people of Pakistan. New leaders even the transitional ones will be tough on you. You will not be allowed to run away to the middle eastern protectors because they are looking for hide outs themselves. The West will not let you in. Swiss banks will freeze your accounts as they have already done for Tunisian leaders. If you are thinking of running to own villages, the vil-lagers will hold you accountable for what you have done to and for them. It is time to listen to people. Listen to what they want. Act in people’s interest before it is too late. What do Pakistanis want?Pakistanis want jobs, jobs and jobsPakistanis want their government to set welfare of people as the first priorityPakistanis want corruption to stopPakistanis want corrupt politicians, generals and civilian officials to give back their ill gotten moniesPakistanis want those who hoard food items and artificially increase prices to be punishedPakistanis want law and orderPakistanis want those who sponsor and protect thieves, kidnappers and land mafia to be caught and punishedPakistanis want all religions, cultures and languages of people to be respectedPakistanis want affordable and quality educationPakistanis want minimum health carePakistanis want justice in every sense of the word.Do not use old and tired economic arguments. Do not dismiss this by asking where the money is for all this. Pakistanis feel that there is enough money to do all of the above

Pakistanis feel enforcement of existing tax laws can generate a lot of resourcesPakistanis feel closing of tax loop holes such tax capital gains laws can generate a lot of re-sources Pakistanis feel change of priority in public finance moving from expensive military equip-ment and borrowing for luxuries can generate a lot of resourcesPakistanis feel that even foreign donors will support the above objectives for a long term stability and can provide a lot of resourcesPakistanis feel that there will be enough money if stealing stops. Stealing of electricity is a prime example. Is this really possible?Pakistanis have been trained to laugh at the above. We have been trained to dismiss ideas which will directly benefit people. We have been trained to believe that we must make rich richer so that they can trickle down benefits to majority of people. But the world has learned new lessonsCapitalist USA already provides most of the above to its people.Capitalist and socialist European countries are already providing most of the above to their people.Japan and Singapore are already providing most of the above to their people.China and even India are moving in the direction Tunisian and Egyptians are going to move in that direction Wake up Pakistanis! Believe in your selves! You have come out for Sohni Dharti. You have come out for dead leaders. Now come out for what you really need.Watch out Establishment! PEOPLE ARE ABOUT COME OUT NOW!

certification in Vascular or echocardiography, but she is doing cardiac and vascular imaging, as well as teaching at this school without the required certifications.. As per law she is bound to have the required certification RVT and RDCS before teaching and doing vascular and echocardiogra-phy. This school started 6 years back and till 2010 was not registered with the government, both husband and wife did not pay a single Tax penny in these years. In 2008 and 2009 this school had 23 students, in 2009 6 students left the school be-cause they found out that both these husband and wife had not certifications and licenses. Each stu-dent paid $3000 at admission and $200 per month for full one year. This amounts to more than $100,000. Aijaz Ahmad filed no or minimal tax in 2008 and 2009 evading $90,000 only in 2009. Ask him to show 2008 and 2009 tax returns. Show him the pictures of school graduation, 13 students graduated in 2010 August. For 6 years this school functioned without gaining government approval. In 2010 January both these husband and wife bor-rowed $15,000 from a school student promising to pay back in September 2010. This money was not paid back in September 2010, the student begged them to pay back but they refused. One family member of the student tried to seek court inter-vention, this husband and wife called the student and threatened if the family goes to the court they will tell the court that we cannot pay, all we can pay is $35.00 per month. Just imagine the plight of affairs. You are congratulated for doing such a noble task.

PROTECT US

By Kevin Bogardus Washington DC, USA, 26 February 2011 (The Hill) - [United States] Justice Department records show that Pervaiz Musharaf, the former [illegal] Pakistani president, who resigned under pres-sure in 2008, still harbors political ambitions as his country read-ies for its 2013 [or 2011] general elections. Pakistani-Americans considered close to Musharaf have filed registration forms with the [US] Justice Department’s Foreign Agent Registration Unit this week to represent the former Army Chief of Staff as well as his own political party, the All Pakistan Muslim League [APML], here in the United States. Once considered a close U.S. ally in the [illegal and fraudulent] war against terror, Musharaf soon found himself in hot water with the international community after his government cracked down on a lawyer- led pro-democracy movement in his country. After facing calls for his impeachment, Musharaf would step down in 2008. The ex-military general now lives in London [UK] where he launched his political party last year. Musharaf has said he plans to return to Pakistan in the future

and run for political office. His representatives here in the United States could help further his ambitions. Raza Bokhari, a Pakistani-American, has had “a personal relationship” with Musharaf since 2004 and, beginning last summer, has voluntarily been operating the former general’s “global office”; “coordinating paid public lectures”; and “serving as a liaison to a speakers’ bureau,” according to Justice records. Bokhari registered “out of the abundance of caution” be-cause he might end up doing “political activity” on behalf of Mush-araf here in the United States, such as scheduling meetings between the former military man and [US] government officials. “Since he maintains a political profile, it is better safe than sorry,” Bokhari told The Hill. Another Pakistani-American and former Musharaf politi-cal appointee, Nasim Ashraf, has filed registration forms to represent Musharraf’s political party. According to [US] Justice Department records, the party has organized “community events” in America where Musharaf has spoken at and plans to raise funds for its U.S. operations. The party registered “out the abundance of caution” and does not plan to fundraise for its Pakistani counterpart. Ashraf said the party has organized about 11 events in U.S. cities so far, resulting

in local party chapters. “The whole idea was to create a grass-roots movement here,” Ashraf said. “Our goal is to raise funds here for our political education and community activities of Pakistani-Americans and other like-minded individuals.” Musharaf may be in need of all the support that he can get. A Pakistani arrest warrant has been issued for the ex-general due to his alleged involvement in the 2007 plot to assassinate [PPP Chairwoman] Benazir Bhutto, charges that he has denied in the past. Bokhari dismissed the war-rant, saying there were no ties between Musharaf and the [Benazir] assassination plot. “It is unwarranted judicial activism that has been prevailing there for quite some time now,” Bokhari said. “It is more political than anything else.” An United Nations investiga-tion released last year criticized the Musharaf government for not providing [Benazir] Bhutto with adequate enough security when she was killed [on 27 December 2007, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan] leaving a campaign rally.

Medical Board Suspends Beaumont Psychiatrist Rajen Desai, M.D.On January 26, 2011, a Disciplinary Panel of the Texas Medical Board entered an Order of Tempo-rary Suspension (With Notice of Hearing) against Rajen Desai, M.D., of Beaumont, suspending his medical license after determining that Dr. Desai’s continuation in the practice of medicine constitutes a continuing threat to the public welfare. The Board’s action was based on the finding that Dr. Desai, Lic. No. J1649, engaged in a pattern of inappropriate conduct towards patients and/or their family members. Miracle Effects of Lemon

Asparagus -- Who knew? A Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned styleasparagus that she pureed and she took 4 table-spoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung cancer in the pleu-ral area and her cancer cell count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week. Her oncologist said she does not need to see him for 3 months. Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photo-copied copy of an article, entitled, Asparagus for cancer ‘printed in Cancer News Journal, Decem-ber 1979. I will share it here, just as it was shared with me: I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project. We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories. Here are a few ex-amples: Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin’s disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise. Case No. 2, a successful businessman 68 years old

who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, includ-ing radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations re-vealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.Case No. 3, a man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the As-paragus therapy and immediately started taking it By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared.. He is back at his regular business routine.Case No. 4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disabil-ity payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney

I knew about lemon properties. All animal who make their own Vita-min C their body do not get clogged Arteries. So, one must take lot of Vitamin C , and the minimum requirement of the body is 9000 mg per day C with 1000 mg Lycine. Take lot of Green veg for Vitamin K, Specially Spinach, Broccoli, Coli-Flower as it protects you from Calcification of Arteries, Vitamin D intake least 1000 mg daily, gives protection from blood pressure and diabetes. Those who follow this prescription will never require Heart By Pass or Stenting.

Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy . Why do we not know about that? Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits. You can now

help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeop-ardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations? As you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes. You can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc... It is credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumors. This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates

blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders. The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that: It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas ... The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only de-stroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells.

trouble entirely to the asparagus. I was not sur-prised at this result, as `The elements of materia medica’, edited in1854 by a Professor at theUniversity of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates! We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh. I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives. Place the cooked as-paragus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based onpresent experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases. As a biochemist I am convinced of the old say-ing that `what cures can prevent.’ Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus

puree as a beverage with our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups. The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to noth-ing but the asparagus drink. As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer.Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth.. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, aspara-gus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body’s most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

ate behavior or comments directed towards a patient; pursued an unwanted personal relationship with a patient in an inappropriate manner; and behaved in an abusive or assaultive manner towards a patient’s family member in such a way as could adversely impact the quality of care rendered to a patient. The suspension is effective immediately and remains in effect until the Board takes further action. specially to those individuals who are, for some reasons, reluctant to take drink with their food altogether may find this info useful.

100,000 converts to Islam living in the UK - with white women most keen to embrace Muslim faith

By Daily Mail Reporter

About 5,200 people in UK adopted faith last year alone

Convert: Lauren Booth, the sister-in-law of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, attracted a lot of publicity when she announced she had adopted the Islamic faith last year The number of converts to Islam living in Britain has surged to 100,000 from just 60,000 a decade ago, a report revealed today. White women are leading the growing number of people in the UK embracing the Muslim faith. Converts have risen from around 60,000 in 2001 to up to 90,000 to 100,000 today, according to estimates in a report for the Faith Mat-ters organization. Around 5,200 people in the UK adopted the faith in the last year alone. Lauren Booth, sister-in-law of former prime minister Tony Blair,

attracted widespread publicity when she announced last year that she had converted to Islam.A survey of 122 converts last year showed 56 per cent were white British, with women making up 62 per cent of respondents. The average age at conversion was just over 27, research conducted by Kevin Brice, of Swansea University , found. The majority reported difficulties after embracing Islam because of the negative attitudes of their family. However, over time this attitude became more ‘positive’ according to the report. The majority of the converts saw themselves as both British and Muslim and did not feel disillusioned with British society and cul-ture. But they felt their own lives had been ‘lost’ and were ‘lacking in purpose’ before conversion. They feared that there was a ‘normal-ization’ of ‘immoral’ behavior amongst an increasingly less religious British public.

Change: An estimated 90,000 to 100,000 people have adopted Islam as their faith in the UK . Research suggests many who become Muslims are white women Only a very small minority saw cel-ebrating birthdays, listening to music or reading fiction as prohibited by Islam, with fewer than ten per cent viewing attending a family Christmas dinner as forbidden. A majority said that most or all of their close friends were Muslims but almost all felt that Muslims should not keep themselves separate from non-Muslims.Most of the women of women had changed their appearance after conversion, with a significant majority adopting the hijab, or head scarf.

One woman who converted to Islam is mother Lynne Ali, a 31-year-old former Disc Jockey.

Contented: Lynne Ali, 31, a mother-of-two adopted the Islamic faith when she was 19. She said: ‘This is the real me - I am happy to pray five times a day and take classes at the mosque’ She decid-ed to adopt the religion when she was 19 - and said she is happy to have found an ‘escape route’ from her old life. ‘I went to an old friend’s 21st birthday party in a bar,’ she said. ‘I walked in, wear-ing my hijab and modest clothing, and saw how everyone else had so much flesh on display. They were drunk, slurring their words and dancing provocatively. ‘For the first time, I could see my for-mer life with an outsider’s eyes, and I knew I could never go back to that. ‘I am so grateful I found my escape route. This is the real me — I am happy to pray five times a day and take classes at the mosque. I am no longer a slave to a broken society and its expec-tations.’ The survey showed that the majority of converts dis-agreed with the niqab, or face veil, in spite of supporting the right of women to wear it. ‘Converts do not represent a devious fifth column determined to undermine the Western way of life - this is a group of normal people united in their adherence to a religion which they, for the most part, see as perfectly compatible with Western life,’ the report said. ‘Converts are generally at ease living in the UK and do not feel that British people are essentially hostile to Islam.’ Faith Matters director Fiyaz Mughal said: ‘Conversion to Islam has been stigmatized by the media and wrongly associ-ated with extremist ideologies and discriminatory cultural practices. ‘Converts have an important role to play in sup-porting community cohesion, and it is vital that mosques can support them to encourage greater understanding amongst non-Muslims.’Faith matters are an inter-faith

What would you do?....you make the choice. Don’t look for a punch line, there isn’t one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its Dedicated staff, he offered a question: ‘When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?’ The audience was stilled by the query. The father continued. ‘I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true hu-man nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.’ Then he told the following story: Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, ‘Do you think they’ll let me play?’ I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a fa-ther I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps. I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expect-ing much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, ‘We’re losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning..’ Shay struggled

over to the team’s bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt.. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn’t even know how to hold the bat prop-erly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the Plate, the pitcher, recog-nizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay’s life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher. The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman’s head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, ‘Shay, run to first! Run to first!’ Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled. Everyone yelled, ‘Run to second, run to second!’ Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball . The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher’s intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman’s head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home. All were screaming, ‘Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay’ Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, ‘Run to third! Shay, run to third!’ As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, ‘Shay, run home! Run home!’ Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team ‘That day’, said the father softly with tears now rolling down

his face, ‘the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world’. Shay didn’t make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate. The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public dis-cussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces. If you’re thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you’re probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren’t the ‘appropriate’ ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference. We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the ‘natural order of things.’ So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice: Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process? A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it’s least fortunate amongst them.

Amazing But A True StoryThis is a true story that had happened in 1892 at Stanford University. Its moral is still relevant today. A young, 18-year-old student was struggling to pay his fees. He was an orphan, and not know-ing where to turn for money, he came up with a bright idea. A friend and he decided to host a musical concert on campus to raise money for their education. They reached out to the great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski. His manager demanded a guaranteed fee of $2000 for the piano recital. A deal was struck. And the boys began to work to make the concert a success. The big day arrived. Paderewski performed at Stanford. But unfortunately, they had not managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1600. Disappointed, they went to Paderewski and explained their plight. They gave him the entire $1600, plus a cheque for the balance $400. They promised to honor the cheque soonest possible. “No.” said Paderewski. “This is not acceptable.” He tore up the cheque, returned the $1600 and told the two boys “Here’s the $1600. Please deduct whatever expenses you have incurred. Keep the money you need for your fees. And just give me whatever is left” The boys were surprised, and thanked him profusely. It was a small act of kindness. But it clearly marked out Paderewski as a great human be-ing. Why should he help two people he did not even know? We all come across situations like these in our lives. And most of us only think “If I help them, what would happen to me?” The truly great

people think, “If I don’t help them, what will happen to them?” They don’t do it expecting something in return. They do it because they feel it’s the right thing to do. Paderewski later went on to become the Prime Minister of Poland. He was a great leader, but unfortunately when the World War began, Poland was ravaged. There were over 1.5 million people starving in his country, and no money to feed them. Paderewski did not know where to turn for help. He reached out to the US Food and Relief Adminis-tration for help. The head there was a man called Herbert Hoover - who later went on to become the US President. Hoover agreed to help and quickly shipped tons of food grains to feed the starving Pol-ish people. A calamity was averted. Paderewski was relieved. He decided to go across to meet Hoover and personally thank him. When Paderewski began to thank Hoover for his noble gesture, Hoover quickly interjected and said, “You shouldn’t be thanking me Mr. Prime Minister. You may not remem-ber this, but several years ago, you helped two young students go through college in the US. I was one of them.” The world is a wonderful place. What goes around usually comes around.

US and Pakistan Square Off M K Bhadrakumar This is a portion of an excellent analysis by the seasoned diplomat/author. Islamabad is not impressed by the US’s posturing. Even after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to Pakistani army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiani on the sidelines of the 47th Munich security conference 10 days ago, Pakistan crossed the Rubicon with the decisive step to formally charge Davis in a court of law in Lahore with pre-meditated murder and on that basis got him remanded to prison for another 14 days for interrogation. Again, the ousted Qureshi has plunged into the controversy without any foreplay, alleging that Clinton pressured him to “publicly con-firm diplomatic immunity of Davis. However, I refused to do so because it was against the factual position in the case.” He said, “The kind of blanket immunity Washington is pressing for Davis is not endorsed by the official record of the Foreign Ministry,” adding that Washington even “threatened that Hillary Clinton would not meet me at the Munich conference on February 6 if the request was not granted.” Qureshi possibly has a motivation to link his removal as foreign minister with his firm stance on the Davis case, but the damage has been done. Why are the stakes so heav-ily loaded? What raises eyebrows among observers in Delhi is that Davis, who as a highly trained operative killed two motorcyclists who were tailing his car in obtrusive intelligence work for over an hour, knowing full well who they were. As a former US Special Forces officer, Davis was knowledgeable enough to estimate that such obtrusive intelligence was not meant to be life-threatening but was intended to be intimidating and obstructive. In short, Davis lost his cool at some point when he found he couldn’t shake off his “tail”. The Pakistani authorities have been leaking to the media

that they knew Davis was in touch with the “Pakistani Taliban”. The Washington Post quoted Pakistani intelligence officials to the effect that the two motor cyclists were warning Davis that he was crossing some “red line” (meaning, he was about to do something unaccept-able to Pakistan’s national security interests) and it was at that point he shot them. Clearly, the US has every reason to believe that the Pakistani side knows much more than it is prepared to admit, and if Davis breaks down after sustained interrogation in police custody, he might spill explosive stuff. This explains the highly contradictory versions that the US has given about Davis’ identity and the nature of his assignment in Pakistan. What emerges from the pattern of the US reaction is that Davis’ detention has sent alarm bells ringing all the way to the White House. The US is apprehensive that the Davis case has the potential to shake up the very foundations of its alli-ance with Pakistan. Therefore, it has done the most natural thing that most countries facing a grave predicament vis-à-vis a foreign country would do - take the high moral ground straightaway and place itself in denial mode, come what may. So, what did Davis do for a living? From the adamant fashion in which Islamabad (despite being highly vulnerable to US aid cutoff) is reacting, it seems it has no real choices in the matter. This seems to be a situation in which, as someone once said, you only live once. The heart of the matter is that Pakistan has been wondering for a long time that it is who could be instigating the so-called “Pakistani Taliban” to inflict such bloody wounds on the Pakistani military and weaken and incrementally destabilize the Pakistani state. It has been convenient to point the finger from time to time at the Indians, but when Pakistani state institutions were at-tacked, especially the military and the Inter-Services Intelligence, as precise targets, Islamabad would have had deeper suspicions, es-pecially asa the close links between the former Afghan intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh and the US security establishment was a fact

known to Pakistani agencies. Conventional wisdom, especially among Indian propagandists, has been that what is happening inside Pakistan is a kind of “blow-back” of terrorism. Some Indian pundits even claimed that the “serpent” that the Pakistani state nurtured over the years (namely, extremist outfits) for poisoning India’s environs has now turned against the Pakistani state itself. While this thesis has its seductive power, it is based on simplistic assumptions regarding the process-es going on within Pakistan, especially the dialectics involving the vehicles of militancy and extremism and the state security appa-ratus. The Pakistani military and its highly efficient intelligence set-up could have concluded a long time ago that under the cover of the “Pakistani Taliban”, all sorts of free-wheeling forces were at work. Washington is openly doing hero-worshipping of Amrullah Saleh even months after Afghan President Hamid Karzai sacked the spymaster almost as a prerequisite for improving Afghan-Paki-stan relations. Davis can most certainly provide the proverbial “missing link” to Pakistan to connect several dots on an intriguing chessboard. Conceivably, he will be sent back home at some point, but by then he may be a “burnt-out case” and Pakistan would have gained a far better understanding of the US’s regional policies. With over 100,000 American troops out on a limb in Afghanistan and the snow melting on the Hindu Kush mountains and a new “fighting season” just round the corner, the prospect surely un-nerves Washington. The postponement of the trilateral meeting in Washington shows up the uncertainties. (Ambassador M K Bhadr-akumar was a career diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service. His assignments included the Soviet Union, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Germany, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kuwait and Turkey.

Heart Attacks And Hot WaterHeart Attacks. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating. For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the diges-

tion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intes-tine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal. Common Symptoms Of Heart Attack... A serious note about heart attacks - You should

know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting . Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake

you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive. A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message sends it to 10 people, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life.

KHALID KHAN FORMER PRESIDENT PAGH ON MOST WANTED LIST BY INTERPOL POLICEPPP leader in US figures in NICL scam

friend of Ayaz Niazi. The official website of PPP also carries his name under the link http://www.ppp.org.pk/party/o_org.html. While the PPP’s USA website also mentions him as vice President under the link http://www.pppusa.org/overseas_organization.htm. Khalid, who lives in Houston, USA is also the Presi-dent of Pakistani-American Association of Greater Houston. Khalid A Khan while talking to The News from Houston, USA said that he was unaware of inclusion of his name in NICL scam and issuance of his Interpol red warrants. On the question that whether he has some link or relation with Ayaz Khan Niazi and Zafar Salim, he said that he was busy and will call back later to discuss the issue. While Zafar Salim who according to FIA is the person who grabbed the NICL’s Korangi land money was among the 152 deceased passengers of Air Blue tragedy in Islamabad last year. Zafar Salim, a former national athlete and Direc-tor General Sindh Workers Board was onboard in the plane that crashed in the capital on July 28, 2010. Well-placed sources in FIA told The News that Zafar Salim was also arrested by FIA in 1993 on account of human smuggling. Sources said that Khalid Anwer Khan, Vice President PPP USA introduced Zafar Salim to Ayaz Niazi when Niazi used to attend ‘lavish’ parties in Karachi, a habit that he developed from his Dubai’s night club. Sources said that after the surfacing of NICL scandal Khalid A Khan did not return to Pakistan while Zafar Salim had already expired.Sources said that though FIA has got the red warrants of Khalid A Khan and Khawaja Akbar from Inter-pol but yet they have not been arrested. Director FIA had told the apex court that Rs900 million had been transferred into the account of Khawaja Akbar Butt from Khalid Anwar Khan of which FIA had recovered Rs73 million. It is worth mentioning here that there are five cases of corruption in NICL which include Rs1.68 billion land scam of purchasing 803 kanals of Warriach family land at escalated price of Rs1.70 billion spent on purchasing 27000 sq ft office area in Liberty Tower, Dubai at high prices; Rs1.06 billion Lahore Air Port land scam; Rs900 million Karachi Korangi land scam and Rs36 million office furniture and renovation scam. Of these scams, FIA has recovered the entire amount from the Warriach family while has cleared Niazi and company in Liberty Tower, Dubai and Office Furniture scam. The Lahore Airport land purchased by NICL is considered to be a fair deal but no one has been cleared in it. Sources said that the PPP Vice President Khalid A. Khan, Khawaja Akbar Butt and Zafar Salim were involved in Korangi land scam in which FIA has to recover the entire amount yet. Sources said that Zafar Salim had obtained signed cheques from Khalid A Khan and Khawaja Akbar Butt before getting the money transferred in their joint account.

Houston Texas: Khalid Anwar Pakistan along with this Bankrupt businessman and invested millions of dollars in real estate in Karachi through a friend named Zafar Saleem who was Director General Welfare Sind Govern-ment. Zafar Saleem was a middle man for many people who invested their black money through Khalid Khan showing him as a foreign investor. Zafar Saleem purchased multiple plots in De-fense Housing society along with a huge house used for picturization of movies and Pakistani dramas. This house was registered in Khalid Khan’s name which is worth millions of dollars. This whole scheme of money laundering and black money busted apart after Zafar Saleem died in an air crash in Islamabad. Khalid Khan rushed to Pakistan next day of the crash to try to secure his investments but most of the unregistered land deals were lost and the only thing left was the huge house which he tried to take over as it was registered in his name. As there were several investors involved in this house they threatened Khalid Khan to leave the possession of the house otherwise he will be killed. In fear of his life he came back to USA and refused to transfer the house to those investors who in turn moved widow of Zafar Saleem in the house to take over the possession of the house. In short all the investments made through Zafar Saleem were doomed and the real owner of the money Pakistani Bankrupt Businessman who is also not able to travel to Pakistan since last one year are very upset due to the losses incurred due to sudden death of Zafar Sal-eem. This is a classic example of poetic justice that money made by fraudulent deals eventually flies away from the thieves in a spur of moment. This is the reason we always request people to make honest living and pray to God for the safety of their investments. Is Honesty the best policy has been featuring stories about illegal activities of these local thugs who have been involved in mortgage, insurance and money laundering frauds besides acting as community leaders and phi-lanthropists. The arrest warrant of Khalid Khan is associated with one of the properties purchased by fraud through Zafar Saleem. More details will follow in future as to see when Khalid Khan is extradited to Pakistan to face the criminal charges. Upon many enquiries from Khalid Khan he denied any charges and told some interested parties that he is booked on Emirates flight to Pakistan in few days and has nothing to worry because he is well connected in PPP circles. In the mean while proceedings to fire Mr. Khan from PPP VP position are under way at the high com-mand PPP. New details will be available soon.

FEDERAL FELON FAROOQ SAMAD’S BROTHER FAISAL SAMAD PHYSICALLY ASSAULT IHTBPOLICTY EDITOR INCHIEF MANZOOR MEMON OUT SIDE MOSQUE.that Manzoor Memon was never a part of business deal between Rezm Lodi (Step sister of Manzoor’s Wife Amber Memon). Ac-cording to the following documents two sisters suspended their partnership in August 1986 when Rezm Lodi received the money and purchased two Dairy Queens. Due to poor management she filed bankruptcy within 3 months and always blamed Manzoor Memon for her failure, where as she was persistently asked to stay together as family, but due to human greed and competition be-tween two sisters, she lost all her assets and have been living hand to mouth. Since then she has been telling people that the store was taken from her which is not true according to court documents filed given bellow. It is very sad that people try to discredit others due to their own mistakes. In this case after her bankruptcy Rezm Lodi worked more than 5 years for her sister when whole family was

supported by Memon’s. However the blame still goes on Memon’s for mistakes committed by their own greed. At one time Rezm Lodi, her two daughters and two son in laws worked full time for Memon’s and after receiving all the assistance they keep on telling people that they are the victims. Manzoor Memon advised Farooq Samad that he is not a thief like him and he should stop defrauding people and act like good citizen otherwise the time is not far that he will be back where he belongs. Some of the articles published about activities of Farooq Samad are given below. Is Egypt Going To Become Pakistan? K. AshrafWe credited Pakistani analysts; commentators and anchormen with the habit of getting carried away with lofty notions like replication of Egyptian events in Pakistan. Now we see some western analysts also expressing identical views. None other than the US Vice President Joe Biden is included among them. Few days ago, he voiced similar concerns. Can events like Cairo repeat in Pakistan? There is a remote possibility that Egyptian events will repeat in Pakistan. Pakistan is not following Egypt it is Egypt that is following Pakistan. Pakistan witnessed similar events three years ago. Those events gave birth to present day political set-up—a negotiated democracy. Egyptians will get a similar set-up once they are done with their march. Hosni Mubarak will leave, but they will get their own Asif Zardari along with a Prime Minister like Yousaf Reza Gilani. They will give similar run around to Egyptians that President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Reza Gilani are giving to the people of Pakistan. It is not because President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Reza Gilani want it so it is because of the embedded flaws of the system they agreed to work within. That’s exactly what happens when politi-cians of smaller countries compromise and settle for negotiated political systems. At the moment millions of Egyptians are out on the streets in effort to overthrow Mr. Hosni Mubarak. However, their leaders are negotiating a Pakistan like system to replace present political dispensation in Egypt. Their euphoria will start to dissipate once they will have to bear the results of their struggle like Pakistanis. Reading the signals emanating from Tunisia, Jordan and Egypt PPP, the ruling party, has decided to

dissolve the three year old cabinet. This cabinet did not achieve much within last three years. Their replacement Ministers will not either achieve much in remainder of the PPP tenure. Firstly, a few key ministers of outgoing cabinet will remain part of the incoming cabinet. Those who are leaving and those who remain lacked leadership guidance. The guidance was supposed to come from Party leader-ship, but Mr. Zardari, who simultaneously holds two offices, the office of the President of Pakistan and Co-Chair of the ruling party, was overwhelmed with the daunting events of previous three years. Secondly, with key ministers remaining the same the new ministers will become part of the PPP’s political swamp. No matter how good new ministers Mr. Zardari picks with the embedded flaws of the system nothing will be achieved by the end of next two years. The maximum PPP will be able to boast about in next elections would be the passage of 18th amendment, NFC awards and inclusion of Gilgit in mainstream political process. Electric shortages will be as bad as they have been for the last three years. Economic down-turn will continue. Inflationary trend will remain constant. The prices of essential commodities will remain out of the reach of common folks. Criminal elements will continue their activities uninterrupted. Law and order situation will remain bleak. In other words, nothing will change. So instead of worrying about the repetition of Egypt like events in Pakistan the Pakistani and international analysts should worry about the repetition of Pakistan like events in Egypt, which means a negotiated democracy for the poor Egyptians—a mirror image of Pakistan—a dysfunctional govern-ment system.

Muslim Charity Squandered Money For Poorwealth each year to the poor. To mark the beginning of Ramadan, Ashraf sent out a letter in August 2010 urging all of ISNA Canada’s members to donate money for “helping needy Muslims not only in Canada, but all over the World.” The auditor, brought in by the ISNA Canada board, took issue with how charity cash was used to cover everything from beefing up security — including $60,000 for installing cameras and frequently changing locks — to health benefits for Ashraf’s daughters, even though they don’t work for ISNA Canada. The organization has been spending more than $6,500 each year on the health plans for Ashraf’s daughters, Saadia and Uzma. Saadia’s premium has since been returned, the audit said. “Spending for personal expenses out of the charity’s funds is unethical,” the auditor wrote, saying it is “tantamount to misappropriation of funds.” The audit shows tens of thou-sands of charity dollars were shuffled from ISNA Canada to its affiliated services and businesses, several of which have secretary-general Ashraf as a director. Federal rules forbid charities from spend-ing donations on business activities that do not aid the charity. The organization has “put an end” to the inappropriate transferring of money as well as taken “financial matters out of the hands” of Ashraf, Bekkari said. Ashraf has defended himself in a memo posted on the organization’s website. In it, Ashraf told the members that the audit showed there had been “No instances of fraud, embezzlement, misappropriation of funds or any deliberate wrong doings in handling of the financial affairs of ISNA Canada.” The auditor noted his scope was limited and “consequently I was not able to follow the trail of funds transferred from ISNA to other organizations.” “Hence I cannot conclude with certainty that there has been no misappropriation or embezzlement of funds or cash.” The audit’s scope was in part restricted because the organization’s management refused to give the auditor certain documents, the board’s president said. ISNA Canada’s board of directors is in the midst of hiring a firm to a conduct a more thorough audit. “(The audit) raised concerned for us, it opened our eyes,” Bekkari said. “As a board, we need much higher level of certainty to answer your questions.” The auditor also uncovered multiple cases where Ashraf or the organization inappropriately gave and received charity tax receipts, repeatedly violating federal charity rules. In a review of the financial statements for the halal meat certification agency, a business branch of the Society that certifies meat as permissible to eat under Is-lamic rules, the auditor discovered Ashraf had received a $15,000 tax receipt after moving money from the agency’s business account over to ISNA Canada and claiming it was a “personal donation.” Former

board members told the Star Ashraf diverted profits from the certification agency to a secret account from which he paid himself and at least two family members. They say the board had no knowledge of this. The business’ revenue from the halal certification business is “supposed to come to the par-ent organization” as the donations do, said Syed Imtiaz Ahmad, former president of ISNA Canada. “(Ashraf) was directing it to an account he had opened and not telling us,” he said. The agency’s funds were also used from 2005 to 2009 to pay Ashraf’s wife and one of his daughters nearly $150,000 for a handful of services, from consulting and promotions to putting together a newsletter that comes out four times a year, according to financial statements. There were also three cases where people received charity tax receipts from ISNA Canada for repaying scholarship loans. The organization’s management told the auditor the borrowers “insisted that they will return the loan only if the tax receipt is issued.” (Federal charity receipts are only to be issued for true charitable donations). The Society also issued charity receipts — more than $42,000 in 2009 — to those who purchased funeral services through the organization. “Tax receipts have to be issued for only donations to the charity and not for any other purposes,” the auditor said in his report. The organization had a world-renowned Islamic scholar on its payroll, despite her not actually working for ISNA, in a bid to help her immigrate to Canada, the audit revealed. Farhat Hashmi had been invited to come from Pakistan to deliver lectures several times throughout the mid-2000s. “This is a serious violation of the (Canadian Revenue Agency) rules and immigration rules to hire someone just in the books to help get through immigration,” the auditor’s report said. Bekkari, the organization’s president, said he didn’t know any specifics about the scholar or how much she was paid. “I have bigger issues than that,” he said. ISNA Canada is governed by a board consisting of 15 members including Ashraf. Ashraf was contacted multiple times, but repeatedly refused to comment. Attempts to speak with his wife and his daughters were unsuccessful. Ashraf’s reign at ISNA Canada will come to an end March 31. The online posting announcing Ashraf’s retire-ment applauded his work for having “been instrumental in the evolution of ISNA Canada” as well as in the development of the organization’s stately mosque in Mississauga.Manzoor bhai, Just wanted to send you this news clip from Canada. Our Muslim brothers up north are as bad as us when it comes to mismanaging the community’s money. May Allah bring them back to the right path.

a mortgage fraud scheme that ran from 1997 through 2003. Samad was also ordered to forfeit in excess of $2 million to the United States and to pay more than $14 million in restitution. The charges in one of the cases against Samad arose from his attempt to obtain a loan to purchase a Days Inn Motel in Houston, Texas, in April 2002. Samud submitted falsified financial statements, real estate contract, fraudulent cashier’s checks and a misrepresented sales price to The Loan Depot, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Samud was arrested at the loan closing. In the second case, Samad brokered loans for the purchase of convenience stores and submitted falsified documents and down payments. In one of the brokered transactions, Samad received an $80,000 commission. Posted by Rachel Dollar on 12/01/04 at 02:16 AM
