Explore Sri Lanka –

“What Living in Sri Lanka Has Taught Me”

“Sri Lanka does not equal Asia  leave your prejudices at home Six months

ago I used to live in Korea as an exchange student. After my stay there, to

me, Asian cuisine was all about way too spicy meat and tasteless white rice,

Asians were mainly focused on partying and there were only grey

megalopolises with hundreds of skyscrapers and no nature. This was the

reason I tried to keep my expectation regarding an internship in Sri Lanka as

low as possible so that I do not get disappointed. However, Sri Lanka is

nothing like that. The cuisine is amazing – delicious fried rice or noodles

with vegetables and chicken, egg hoppers and tons of fruits. The local

people as well as the people coming from other countries are amazing. I

have never expected that they would be interested in spending time in the

wild, riding elephants or even laughing when unexpected rainfall ruins your

makeup.

Although I have always preferred working alone and not having to explain

my decisions to other team members, living in Sri Lanka proved me wrong.

If I was good at taking short videos, there was another girl who was able to

put the videos together and make a whole movie. Another one had great

ideas about background music. Everybody is good at something, they just

have to find and develop their potential! Organize something well, find the

right people and you will enjoy every part of it I have never expected that the

project “Explore Sri Lanka” would be so wellorganized. The tours were

prepared in advance and the AIESECers have taken care about every detail. I

could not imagine travelling alone by bus in Sri Lanka or asking for the

directions. Therefore, it was truly great that there was always a team

member with us to help us out with everything. The good organization as

well as the friendly AIESECers made every experience unforgettable. This

way, we have enjoyed every part of the journey and found something

amazing or hilarious even in the difficulties we have.”

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things youdidn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away

from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore dreamdiscover. So I come to Sri Lanka, a country in my dream.

Sri Lanka in Chinese “斯⾥兰卡”. What a beautiful name! It is Nishadi whointerviewed me in skype, though the network is poor, she always smile to

me. I remember her big eyes and beautiful smile. That’s my firstimpression of Sri Lankan people. This trip was a deep immersion into Sri

Lankan culture and life!I thought teaching poor areas’ children is a very meaningful thing. The

children makes me moved time and time again. Most of our students werequiet and clever .Just several are very naughty but also lovely. Thoughthe small village is not very rich, I can still feel their optimistic heart in

hard life. Everyday we come to school, all the students come out towelcome us, all of class gave me loving eyes. we teach them some newwords ,they will try their best to learn and remember. The relationshipbetween I and they were very close in daily life. We often played gamestogether. Furthermore, every student is very polite. They met us to say

”hello” with smile every time. The last week we came to school ,many students say to us “no china", I

can’t understand what they said. After Nishan’s translation, I know theysaid ”don’t go back china”. I can’t help crying. Their beautiful smile , pure

heart is the most precious thing in the world. It is hard for us to say “goodbye”, to the lovely students, to the friendly

local people, to the amazing scenery.Thank you all the members in CN. Many kisses and hugs to you all.

Nothing would happen without you all.It is my second home, I never forget every moments here. Miss you all. “
