Worlds in Interactive Fiction are traditionally built from rooms, which can be anything from a closet to a vast desert. Rooms are usually positioned in a direction (north, east, south, west, etc) from another room.

[some text]
Example: The Muddy Hut is a room. It is east of the Swamp. The description is A curious, oblong dwelling, reeking of the mud, grass, and sticks from which it has been forged. Not a place one would expect to find a powerful seer. A small opening leads west, back into the swamp.
