STUDY
IFSA-Butler programs have the highest academic standards. Our integrated programs allow students to enroll directly in a university abroad, which creates an authentic cultural experience and great opportunities for community engagement. Some of our other programs offer exclusive program courses that provide intensive language immersion and give students a foundation for learning more about their host country’s history, culture, literature and more.
INTERN
In today’s competitive job market, every bit of experience counts. Give your future career a boost by combining study abroad with an internship. IFSA-Butler’s internship options allow you to gain practical work experience, strengthen your resume and get an insider’s look at your host country. Combining the academic opportunities of international study with an internship can make your experience abroad even more rewarding and may continue to benefit you long after your return home. Internships are available in Australia, Chile, China, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Spain. All internships are for credit.
VOLUNTEER
Want to make a difference in your host country? Many IFSA-Butler programs include volunteer and community-based learning opportunities. Past students have taught English to children, assisted at homeless shelters, worked with immigrant and refugee services, and volunteered with various nongovernment organizations. Some opportunities are tied to program courses, while others are completely separate experiences. All of these opportunities are a great way to truly understand your host society and to give back to your adopted country.

“IFSA-Butler brought us to
places I probably wouldn’t
have gone to on my own. I
was also able to ask
questions about Kiwi culture
and slang without having to
be too embarrassed about
asking. Our IFSA-Butler
Student Services Coordinator
Josh was willing to teach us
about rugby and cricket and
other integral parts of New
Zealand sports.
–Sarah Tensa, Oregon State University
QUALIT Y AND EXPERIENCE
THE HIGHEST AC ADEMIC STANDARDS IFSA-Butler’s affiliated universities abroad are at the top of their countries’ rankings, and some are among the highest ranked universities in the world.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCEIFSA-Butler was founded in 1988. We have more than 25 years of experience, longevity and reliability on our side.
COMMITMENT TO AUTHENTIC CULTUR AL EXPERIENCESIFSA-Butler programs are more than just hundreds of Americans taking the same courses and living side by side. You can do that at home, so why spend money to do the same thing abroad? We believe that enrolling in classes alongside host country students and living with host families or in host university housing is a more rewarding and authentic approach to study abroad.
F INANCIAL BENEFITS
NO HIDDEN FEES—E VERIFSA-Butler doesn’t have any hidden charges. All of our fees include tuition and housing, and any deposits or supplemental charges such as meal plans are clearly outlined in our program fees.
EXCURSIONS AND AC TIVITIES INCLUDED IN THE PROGR AM FEEIFSA-Butler doesn’t believe in the nickel-and-dime approach to the study abroad experience. Our program fees include events and excursions exclusively for our students throughout the semester, at no extra cost. We view these extras as an integral part of the larger academic experience you signed up for.

AMAZING STAFF
EXPERIENCED SUPPORT STAFF IN THE U.S.
Our U.S.-based program advisors, finance staff and academic affairs professionals are just an email or toll-free call away.
F U L L - T I M E I F S A - B U T L E R S TA F F A B R OA D
Some study abroad programs just give busy professors extra money to provide an occasional event or organize a brief orientation. IFSA-Butler has program offices and staff in all of our host countries. Our staff provide everything from detailed on-site orientations to academic guidance to emergency assistance.
E M E R G E N C Y R E S P O N S E
Emergencies happen, but you’ll have extra peace of mind with IFSA-Butler. We’re a leader in study abroad health and safety issues, and our worldwide staff are trained to assist students and their families in the event of an academic issue, medical problem or natural disaster. All of our programs abroad include a 24-hour emergency contact number.
E XC U R S I O N S A N D AC T I V I T I E S
ON-SITE ORIENTATION
Each of our programs begins with a thorough orientation to acclimate students to the academic and cultural changes that await them. Our resident directors and other on-site staff organize and conduct the orientations, which include insight on everything from safety and cultural information to instructions on how to register for courses. EXCLUSIVE IFSA-BUTLER CULTUR AL EXCURSIONS AND AC TIVITIES
Some study abroad programs advertise host university activities and events as their
own. IFSA-Butler staff abroad organize events and excursions exclusively for IFSA-Butler students. Of course, host university activities are also available to you and are a bonus to the IFSA-Butler cultural experience.

“IFSA-Butler made sure thatI
wasn’t just showing up in a
seat every day, but that I was
truly present in the culture.
They acted as ambassadors
into the harder to reach
areas of Chilean life and
helped explain what I didn’t
understand in a way that
no other organization or
individual could.
–Marielle Petranoff, Michigan State University
GUARANTEED HOUSING
P R E A R R A N G E D H O U S I N G
Can you imagine arriving in another country and then looking for your own housing? Neither can we. IFSA-Butler’s program fees always include housing, and we guarantee that each student has a host family, university housing or IFSA-Butler housing upon arrival abroad.
O N E S T U D E N T P E R H O S T FA M I LY
For our programs with host families, IFSA-Butler always houses just one student per host family. Our alumni report that the top factor in the improvement of their language skills and cultural immersion was due to their host family experience.
AC ADEMIC ALLY AND CULTUR ALLY RELE VANT AC TIVITIES
Our staff abroad strive to find excursions and events that are both academically relevant and culturally enriching. We work hard to take students to places that they wouldn’t be able to see on their own, like a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Machu Picchu in Peru or an overnight stay at a marae in New Zealand.
SOME OF OUR CRUCIAL EXTRAS
A U.S. ACCREDITED UNIVERSIT Y TR ANSCRIPT
Once you finish your study abroad program, Butler University will process your official transcript, with grade and credit translations, at no additional cost. Most colleges and universities in the U.S. treat the Butler University transcript as transfer credit, which makes finishing your degree and applying for any graduate programs so much smoother.
VISA ASSISTANCE
Obtaining a visa to study in another country can be complicated and expensive. IFSA-Butler ensures that students receive accurate, detailed information about the visa they’ll need before leaving to go abroad.

“The whole IFSA-Butler
staff has been unfailingly
kind, patient, and helpful.
Their efforts to create a
cohesive social group by
planning so many events
are also noticed and greatly
appreciated. They were also
highly accessible, responding
to my numerous inquiries in
an incredibly timely fashion.
