One Week Compulsory Course on “Forest Certification in Indian Context” for the Indian Forest
Service Officers was conducted at IIFM, Bhopal during 5-9 December 2016. Forest Service Officers
representing the States of Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Sikkim, Himachal
Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh participated in this
programme. The programme was sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of
Environment, Forest and Climate Change as compulsory course for the Indian Forest Service
Officers.
The course designed to provide a comprehensive understanding on forest certification; its
applicability in the Indian context and detailed procedure for undertaking voluntary initiatives on
forest certification. The resource persons were identified from the academicians; veteran foresters;
forestry practitioners. Key inputs were provided by the IIFM faculty namely Prof. Manmohan
Yadav, Prof. AK Dharni, Prof. KK Jha. Eminent experts working in this emerging field were also
invited to interact with the officers and these include - Dr. Ram Prasad; Former Director, IIFM;
Shri RR Okhandiar, CEO, MP MFP PARC, MP Minor Forest Produce Federation; Dr AK Patil,
APCCF, Research, Extension and Lok Vaniki, Govt. of MP.

initiative by an MP Vigyan Sabha
Besides class room sessions, the training programme was designed to accommodate field visits to
Ratapani WLS, Harshdwari and Satpuda National Park. Shr AK Nagar, Field Director, Satpuda
National Park briefed about the management and innovative approach for dislocation of
inhabitants from the core area of park. An elaborated exercise on Potential for Forest Certification
of Protected Areas was undertaken at Satpuda Biosphere Reserve.
