TRANSCRIPT
Cell Press has introduced an automated method of transferring a manuscript from one Cell Press title to
another. This allows authors to submit their manuscript to other journals within the Cell Press family
without the need to submit from scratch. If you receive a decision that includes an invitation to move
your submission to another journal, the email will contain links allowing you to accept or decline the
invitation.
The invitation will stay open for 90 days, and you may choose to accept or decline at any point during
the 90 day period. Once 90 days have expired, the system will automatically close the transfer invitation,
and you will no longer be able to automatically transfer your paper to another Cell Press journal.
Ifyouchoosetodecline:
If you choose to decline the transfer invitation, it will close the paper at your original journal, and you
will no longer be able to automatically transfer your manuscript to another Cell Press journal. Please do
not decline the transfer invitation until you are certain that you will not be interested in having your
paper considered by another Cell Press title.
Ifyouchoosetoaccept:
The following will be made available to the target journal:
The source manuscript files from the most recent round of review
The peer review comments to author
The previous decision letter
If you choose to accept the invitation to transfer your manuscript, you will be allowed to choose which
Cell Press title you would like to transfer to. You may only choose one target journal at this point (please
note that Current Biology is not available as a target – if you are interested in transferring your
manuscript to Current Biology, please contact their editorial office directly at current‐[email protected]).
When your target journal receives your manuscript, they will immediately return the paper to your
account to allow you and your colleagues to make any changes and corrections that need to be made
before the editorial team begins their evaluation. You will be able to log into your account at the target
journal and confirm that this version of the manuscript is up to date, including all relevant and required
information.
When you edit your manuscript, there are a few things to pay attention to:
There may be some differences in submission and metadata requirements between your
original journal and the target journal; these will need to be resolved before you can return the
paper to the target journal.
You may update any files at this time. Any files that do not require updates can remain in place.
If your manuscript was previously peer‐reviewed, you will have the opportunity to address these
reviews by uploading a point‐by‐point response to their comments. You may upload your
response under the category “Transfer Paper – Response to Reviewers” on the Attach File
screen.
Once you have approved the combined PDF, the system will release your files to the editors for their
consideration. The paper will also receive a new manuscript number from the target journal – this
generally happens within one business day.
If you have any questions concerning this process, please contact the editorial office and we would be
happy to help address these issues.
Please note that your login information at this new journal may differ from the login at the previous
journal; if you have trouble with this login, please use the "Forgot Username/Password" tool on the
login page.
