Conference ObjectivesAPBS Conference participants will be able to:• Gain an understanding of research-based strategies

that combine applied behavior analysis and biomedical science with person-centered values and systems change to increase quality of life and decrease problem behavior;

• Identify practical applications of positive behavior support in a variety of places including schools, early childhood, mental health, child welfare settings, and in organizations that provide services to adults with intellectual or other disabilities;

• Describe the most current, state-of-the-art research on positive behavior support for a variety of populations and settings;

• Expand explicit knowledge about the field of positive behavior support that promotes questioning about the field and its aims and methods;

• Expand their perspective on problems/goals and PBS intervention strategies by enhancing knowledge (unspoken understandings) about the field of positive behavior support; and

• Enhance understanding about the key components and related considerations in the positive behavior support process from an individual to systems level perspective.

Keynote SpeakerAnthony Biglan, PhDDr. Biglan is a Senior Scientist at Oregon Research Institute. His research over the past 30 years has helped to identify effective family, school, and community interventions to prevent the most common and costly problems of childhood and

adolescence. Dr. Biglan is a former president of the Society for Prevention Research. He was a member of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Prevention, which released its report in 2009 documenting numerous evidence-based preventive interventions that can prevent multiple problems. His recent review of preventive interventions concluded that diverse psychological, behavioral, and health problems can be prevented through the promotion of nurturing families, schools, and communities.

Dennis Reid, PhD, BCBADr. Reid has over 40 years of experi-ence as a clinician and supervisor in educational, residential, and com-munity support settings for people withautism and intellectual disabilities. Dr. Reid has consulted with human service agencies in the majority of

states of the United States as well as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. He has published over 140 refereed journal articles and book chapters focusing on applied behavior analysis and authored or co-authored eight books.

SWK 101 – Taking a Walk Through a Classroom Coaching GuideDevon Minch, Anna Winneker, Stephanie Martinez and Kathy Christiansen, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL; Ashley MacSuga-Gage, University of Florida, Gainesville, FLParticipants will learn a process for coaching teachers to apply PBS principles within their classrooms. Utiliz-ing case scenarios, participants will practice using a Classroom Coaching Guide. Electronic copies of the guide will be provided.

SWK 102 – Integrating Mental Health Within a School-Wide System of PBIS: Systems Practices, DataLucille Eber and Kelly Perales, Midwest PBIS Network, La Grange, ILThis workshop will describe how to expand the con-tinuum of mult-tiered interventions within schools to ensure a comprehensive system of behavioral health supports using the Interconnected Systems Framework including key features, tools, and examples.

SWK 103 – Navigating Ethical and Professional Issues When BCBAs Work in SchoolsIlene Schwartz, University of Washington, Seattle, WAProfessional behavior analysts face challenges whenworking in public schools. The purpose of this workshopis to help BCBAs bridge the divide between school cul-ture and best practices in applied behavior analysis.

SWK 104 – Coaching Schools to Engage in Effective Teaming and Data-Use Practices With-in MTSSBrian Gaunt, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL; Scott Ford, Pflugerville Independent School District, Austin, TXParticipants will learn how effective teaming practices & a structured data analysis process can improve aca-demic instruction and behavior management practices. An activity-based learning approach will be used. Re-sources offered for application of ideas.

SWK 105 – Implementing Behavioral Kernels to Support PBISAnthony Biglan, Oregon Research Institute, Eugene, ORThis workshop will show participants how they can i mplement behavior influence techniques called “kernels” to promote students self-regulation, coop-eration, and academic engagement.

SWK 106 – Basic FBA to BSP: An Efficient Approach to Providing Function-Based SupportSheldon Loman, Portland State University, Portland, OR; Kathleen Strickland-Cohen, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TXThis workshop will teach participants to use a proactive approach to more efficiently implement function-based supports. Attendees will be given access to the Basic FBA to BSP curriculum and have multiple practice opportunities using case-studies.

SWK 107 – Team Initiated Problem Solving II (TIPS II) Workshop and ExplorationAnne Todd, University of Oregon, Eugene, ORTIPS is a problem solving model nested within a set of meeting foundations used for data-based decision mak-ing. Participants will work in teams to apply TIPS with simulated social and academic data/meeting video.

Discussion will include critical issues and best practices. Participants will have the opportu-nity to learn through networking with others.

SWK 109 – Using Data to Improve Systems and Practices That Benefit StudentsDale Cusumano, Caryn Ward, and Angela Preston, UNC Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NCThis workshop will focus on developing skills to use student, building, and systemic level data to identify supports needed for educators to use evidence-based practices as intended.

SWK 110 – Strategies for Implementing FBA in Home, School, and Community SettingsTim Moore, Minnesota Department of Human Services, Minneapolis, MN; Rachel Freeman, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MNThis workshop will present a Tier 3 multimodal FBA model that can be used by practitioners in home, school, and community settings within a multi-tiered system of support. SWK 111 – Supporting School Success – Back to the Basics! Feasible Strategies for Supporting EngagementKathleen Lynne Lane, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS; Wendy Oakes, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZIn this workshop, we present feasible strategies for sup-porting academic engagement and minimizing disrup-tion. We provide step-by-step procedures for using these strategies with high fidelity, offering illustrations in elementary, middle, and high school settings.

SWK 112 – School-Wide Integration of PBIS and SEL to Promote Student Well-Being and SuccessCatherine Bradshaw, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA; Dana Marchese and Sandra Hardee, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MDThis presentation will provide an overview of the im-portance and benefits of integrating Social Emotional Learning and PBIS within a multilevel framework inschools. Implementation barriers, challenges and how tosuccessfully integrate SEL and PBIS will be discussed.

SWK 113 – Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR): An Evidence-Based FBA/BIP Process Accepted by School TeamsRose Iovannone, University of South Florida, Tampa, FLPrevent-Teach-Reinforce is a research-validated team-based comprehensive FBA/BIP process that educators find to be acceptable and effective in addressing serious problem behaviors. The multi-step process will be de-scribed via case examples with hands-on opportunities to practice.

SWK 114 – Bullying Prevention in Positive Behavioral Interventions and SupportsScott Ross, Colorado Department of Education, Denver, COThis presentation will describe a functional approach to bullying prevention, which gives students the tools to reduce bullying through effective stand-up strategies embedded with school-wide positive behavioral inter-ventions and supports.

Certificate of AttendanceA Certificate of Attendance will be available at the end of the conference for those wishing to submit contact hours to your professional development organization. The Certificate can be picked up at the registration desk after lunch on Friday, March 30th.

BCBA and Graduate CreditsBCBA Type 2 CreditsThe Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) designates this conference for a maximum of 27 con-tinuing education unit hours (3.5 hours for March 28,16.5 hours for March 29 – 30 and 7 hours for March 31).Each attendee should claim only those credit hours that were actually spent in the educational activity (session and/or workshop).

Permission is being sought for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (Type 2 credits) from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. BCBA Credits will be offered for $5 per hour. All necessary paperwork will be available at the conference.

A list of sessions approved for BCBA credits will be posted on the APBS website as the conference date approaches.

Conference RegistrationFull Conference Registration: The registration fee for the 15th International Conference on Positive Behavior Support includes admission to all breakout sessions on Thursday and Friday, the conference reception/poster session and conference materials. The registration fee does not include meals. Your registration form must be received (not postmarked) on or before the dates speci-fied below to receive the reduced rate.

APBS Student and APBS Family Registration: APBS Student Members and APBS Family Members are en-titled to the same privileges as full conference registrants.Students are required to present valid identification atthe time of registration if purchasing a Student member-ship on-site.

Cancellation Policy: A service charge of US $35 will be assessed for processing refunds. All cancellations must be requested in writing (email is acceptable) and re-ceived (not postmarked) in our office by 5:00 p.m. on March 5, 2018. APBS will verify receipt of payment prior to issuing a refund. All refunds of verified pay-ments will be credited back to the original source of payment received. “No Shows” will be invoiced the full registration fee. We regret that we cannot offer refunds for “No Shows”; however, substitute attendees are wel-come without penalty. All requests for refund should state the registrant’s name and the amount of payment.

Skill-Building Workshop RegistrationWorkshops will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. On Saturday, March 31, half-day workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The full-day workshop on Saturday, March 31, will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Separate registration for Skill-Building Workshops is required. Attendees may register for Skill-Building Work shops only or can register for workshops in addi-tion to any conference registration. The Skill-Building Workshop registration includes admission to the work-shop and a copy of the con ference program.

Please note: Each workshop requires a separate fee. Pre-registration is advised, as there will be no wait list for sold out workshops. In addition, workshop notes are not available for purchase. Please be sure to register for only ONE Wednesday and/or ONE Saturday workshop.
