1 We partner with Tulare County in sharing their training slots for this training Sep 11, 2012 12:47 PM

2 Yolo County's MHSA PEI plan includes a Crisis Intervention Team Training Aug 15, 2012 4:29 PM program. The program offers a 32-hour training, is based on the Memphis Model, and is POST-approved. Presently, Yolo County contracts with retired Police Sergeant Michael Summers, of Disability Response, to coordinate these trainings. Yolo County law enforcement agencies do not have actual officer/clinician teams, but through the Mental Health Services Act, Yolo County offers four CIT trainings per year, open to law enforcement personnel from any of our seven local agencies and to local first responders who live or work in Yolo County. Officers or responders from outside Yolo County are allowed to participate on a space-available basis. Other interested residents are discouraged from attending this specialized training, but they are offered other available local mental health training programs.

3 Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and the Oakland Police Aug 15, 2012 6:23 AM Department collaborate and provide CIT training to Alameda County law enforcement officers.

4 CIT is regularly scheduled in Alameda County for law enforcement officers from Aug 14, 2012 9:11 PM different cities in the county and BART personnel..

5 the Butte County Sheriff's Department is fully trained and Andy Duch (a Lt, I Aug 14, 2012 7:47 PM think) with the Sheriff's Dept puts on trainings every year for local people with Butte College. I think many of the local police forcesw have a few officers, and there are first responders, dispatchers and others also trained. Unfortunately, the Chico PD does not take it seriously and often lie to people about whether they are CIT trained or not and the local CSU college (CSU Chico) police department is not trained at all.

6 Napa County Department of Corrections has trained their staff in CIT. Also, Aug 14, 2012 10:52 AM members of local law enforcement agencies (Napa County Sheriff and Napa Police Dept) audited Sonoma County’s CIT course.

7 Calaveras County Behavioral Health Aug 14, 2012 9:29 AM

8 Santa Clara County offers CIT training to the Sherif Dept, San Jose City PD, Aug 13, 2012 5:14 PM Santa Clara City PD, and other cities that request it.

9 Humboldt County Mental Health Branch Staff trained in the Crisis Intervention Aug 13, 2012 1:40 PM Team model have sponsored and provided local training.

10 Monterey County Crisis Intervention Training for law enforcement is done Aug 13, 2012 11:56 AM approx. 4xs per year. Training is done in conjunction with Behavioral Health and NAMI Monterey County as part of the speaking panel. As a family member and Outreach Coordinator for NAMI MC, i have been a speaker on the panel since 2005.

11 We are family members and Board members of NAMI San Joaquin County and Aug 13, 2012 10:32 AM SJC Mental Health & Substance Abuse Board members. We can't recall which year our County started participating in "Introduction to Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)". This all-day Training for Law Enforcement is POST certified. 1. personnel/parole agents in attendance; 2. Thursday, 05/24/12 at Wentworth Education Center, 2707 Transworld Drive in Stockton: 114 law enforcement personnel/parole agents in attendance. We were able to attend the entire day and tried to speak with each officer taking this training to express our gratitude. John and Melva Luna (also NAMI SJC family members) joined us during the "family member presentation time" to provided the attendees with a family member perspective by speaking about the experiences we and/or our loved ones with mental illness had experienced with law enforcement in San Joaquin County. We also participated in a Q&A period. Many of the attendees approached us to thank us for this helpful information and several also talked about their own family members and friends who are also mental health consumers.

13 Ventura County Crisis Intervention Team. This program is very effective and Aug 12, 2012 11:40 AM extremely helpful. I am a Family to Family teacher for NAMI and I get excellent feedback from family members who have had to call the CIT.

14 Critical Incident Training Academy and Monterey County Health Department Aug 11, 2012 3:10 PM

15 In San Mateo county- we have the 40 hour CIT training and program In Santa Aug 11, 2012 10:47 AM Clara county- they have 2 CIT trainings and program.

16 A mini CIT training for the Sheriff's Dept. and Ukiah Police Dept. was held in Aug 10, 2012 4:12 PM Spring 2011.

17 In Alameda County we have a Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program that is Aug 10, 2012 11:32 AM a weeklong (38 hour) program for Law Enforcement designed to reduce stigma as well as unnecessary involvement of consumers and their families with the criminal justice system. This training is partially funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Statewide funding under Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Services, which is jointly administered through Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services (BHCS) and the City of Berkeley. Locally, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) conducts the CIT Training with coordination assistance from BHCS for all Alameda County Law Enforcement Departments. Between July 2011 and June 2012, 175 Law Enforcement officers from 12 departments have graduated from this training program.

18 The local Alcohol Drug and Mental Health Services Dept of the County of Santa Aug 10, 2012 11:15 AM Barbara conducts annual CIT training for local law enforcement.

19 Bi - annual training occurs for local/county law enforcement sponsored by Santa Aug 10, 2012 10:19 AM Barbara County Alcohol Drug and Mental Health Services.

20 Alameda County, CIT Training Program has been working with the Oakland Aug 9, 2012 5:13 PM Police Department and other cities and agencies in the County such as San Leandro, Alameda County Sheriffs Department for unincorporated areas, BART police department, and even some out of county trainees. The training was set up by a committee representing family, consumer, and community based representation. The training includes a section of training by family members and use of AB 1424 forms. The former Oakland Chief of Police stated that all of his officers would have CIT training, I'm not sure if the current chief has

committed his officers to the same training. In addition, Patients Rights also does training, and the Director of Access have made presentations at morning roll call. There are quick guides that officers can use on duty and they can also call one of our two mobile crisis teams for assistance.

21 There is a two year effort focused on the SF Police Dep for SF County. NAMI SF Aug 9, 2012 11:10 AM has worked with other agencies (MHA, 911 Dispatchers, etc) on creating a curriculum. As the NAMISF Board President I have been personally involved in presenting to each of the 3 (three) classes that have taken the training to date. This effort was launched by the Police Commission in an unaminous vote from February 2010.

22 CIT Training for Police Offices in each City in Marin County. Aug 9, 2012 8:16 AM

23 Our crisis services has a component of PEI funding to develop training for first Aug 9, 2012 5:51 AM responders in the county to recieve CIT training. This is for all possible first responders not just law enforcement.

24 I live in San Diego County and we have a Countywide PERT- Psychiatric Aug 9, 2012 1:00 AM Emergency Response Team presence with over 24 teams usually scheduled from noon onwards, which consist of one police officer and one clinician.

25 The Riverside County Mental Health Department has partnered with the Aug 8, 2012 11:40 PM Riverside County Sheriffs Academy to provide CIT training countywide to Sheriffs and Police departments. This extremely important program is being funded by MHSA funding. Also there is additional training offered to the City of Riverside Police Department.

26 Taught by the Placer Sheriff's Department with support help from Mental Health Aug 8, 2012 10:57 PM Services as a support group. HOWEVER County has given this to their "stigma busting committee" who appears to not be interested in NAMI-PC's involvement in this program within our county. County group won't call us and has refused to allow NAMI-PC to be involved with planning and help with this program. We at (NAMI-PC) have had to fight for years to stay involved and the sheriff's department has NO PROGRAM with us doing and helping. But County has been trying to push us out for years without explaining this to us, except to tell us that this program is taught under the Sheriff's department and they have NO CONTROL and NOT A NAMI PROGRAM.

27 Shasta County NAMI has partnered with the Redding Police Department, Shasta Aug 8, 2012 9:41 PM County Sheriff's Department, Parole, and Probation, and others to provide training for over 20 classes. The CIT training used to be held twice a year, however funding has been a problem as well as the time involved for officers to be away from providing their services.

28 Placer County Sheriff's Office offers annual one week training in CIT for it's Aug 8, 2012 9:28 PM sworn officers on what was once (2007) a volunteer basis. It also then offered this invaluable training to community citizens and NAMI members along with it's officers and Placer County Fire departments. Unfortunately, at that time the individual police Chiefs of Auburn and Roseville, who each had it's own police departments, had chosen not to offer training to it's staff. This may have changed since 2007. Now, if a "welfare check" for a distressed or mentally ill person is made within Placer County, usually one or more CIT trained deputies

45 Kern County has a CIT that conducts a 40 hour training 2x per year. It is in Aug 6, 2012 11:35 AM partnership with Kern County Mental Health and Kern County Sheriffs Office. The program is open to all law enforcement agencies in Kern County - to which there are 17. The program is akin to the Memphis Model of CIT.

1 Tulare County Sep 11, 2012 12:48 PM

2 Contra Costa County, Sacramento County, San Francisco Aug 17, 2012 4:00 PM

3 I am aware of other county mental health-sponsored CIT programs, but I do not Aug 15, 2012 4:30 PM feel qualified to provide details about other programs.

4 I am the CIT Coordinator for Alameda County and have worked with folks from Aug 15, 2012 6:26 AM Contra Costa County San Francisco's CIT Program San Jose / Santa Clara and others further out... There is no other city in Alameda County that provides a Memphis Model CIT program.

5 see first question. I think there are a few officers each from: Chico, oroville and Aug 14, 2012 7:47 PM paradise.

6 I believe that Sonoma, Santa Clara and Marin do the training regularly. Aug 14, 2012 10:53 AM

7 But we think Monterey County has a program. Aug 13, 2012 5:15 PM

8 I believe Santa Cruz also has CIT programs, i do not know of San Benito Aug 13, 2012 11:57 AM County.

9 CIMH should have the complete list of all CIT programs in California= There are Aug 11, 2012 10:48 AM many, especially in the Bay area.

10 Madera, Tuolumne Aug 10, 2012 11:57 AM

11 I believe Contra Costa and Santa Clara have CIT programs. Aug 10, 2012 11:33 AM

12 i know some counties have a program, but am not able to say definitely which Aug 9, 2012 5:15 PM ones. If San Mateo does not have one, I would be surprised.

13 Sonoma, I know for sure. beyond that I am not certain of the other immediate Aug 9, 2012 11:11 AM Bay Area Counties. Contra Costa has a program, I think?

14 Placer County Aug 9, 2012 5:51 AM

15 There may be, but I am unaware of them. Aug 8, 2012 11:41 PM

16 However, we are one of the larger counties in this rural area and other Aug 8, 2012 9:43 PM neighboring counties have sent participants to Shasta County for the CIT training.

17 placer Aug 8, 2012 9:19 PM

18 I believe Shasta County had a CIT program at one time but might not have Aug 8, 2012 7:54 PM followed the Memphis model.

19 Kings County law enforcement agencies including Lemoore Naval Air Station Aug 8, 2012 7:54 PM have sent officers to training in Tulare County. I believe Fresno County offers a much shorter version of CIT. Not sure about Kern County.

6 Not only do we have the training, I am so grateful for these programs. It is a true Aug 13, 2012 12:01 PM gift for law enforcement to know what is going on for the family members, and for the clients through their stories. The more knowledge they go into a situation with, the less fear and thus less anxiety and judgment or stigma they will carry into the situation themselves. I call it their "mental toolbelt"....it simply gives them more tools of understanding and interaction. It's a win-win.

10 I'm really aware of (CIT) intervention but would like to attend any training. Aug 9, 2012 8:11 AM

11 I was on the Riverside County Mental Health Board for about six years and this Aug 8, 2012 11:46 PM was one of my main priorities (CIT) to receive funding. There is a huge difference between law enforcement staff that has been trained and those who have not in handling emergencies. It is in the Sheriffs Academy, but wish they offered teams that went directly to the communities to do the training. Our county is bigger than some states.

17 It has been several years since we had a training, in which BH paid all the Aug 7, 2012 9:32 AM expenses out of MHSA. We would be interested but the cost of having consultants to conduct the training in a remote rural area is very high especially when we have no post certified trainers in the county.

18 question not applicable ---we have been providing CIT and are on track to hold Aug 6, 2012 12:03 PM the international CIT conference here in Monterey County in 2014.

19 BHS is interested but law enforcement hasn't been able to commit the time for Aug 6, 2012 11:29 AM the training.
