In an effort to maintain and improve upon the colleges investment in a network of four labs containing seventy-five desktop units I am seeking certification from the Appletrade Corporation in operating system maintenance
As the sole campus-wide expertP A2 overseeing the technical support of all Apple Macintosh computer labs within the Educational Technology Unit it is imperative that my knowledge and skills are developed on a timeline consistent with the advancements of the industry This opportunity will also expand the ETUs relationship with Apple system administrators beyond the boundaries of the college Thus increasing the network oftechnological support resources for the college
5 Previous experience and education related to proposed development area
My background and training in computer information systems has been the catalyst for my independent studies pertaining to an Apple network Through various self-directed research analysis and troubleshooting projects I have expanded my skill set
Since my hiring in October 2004 I have also been able to keep the Apple workstations servers and networking devices at their optimalleves through many hours of collaborative learning with my peers in the field as well as my colleagues within the institution
6 Professional activity you plan to attend for faculty development (attach a full description if necessary)
I would like to take the class titled - Leopard 101 - Mac as x Support Essentials vIOS This class would enable me to take the certification test Mac as x Support Essentials Exam (9LQ402)
I would also like to enroll in the online class - AppleCare Technician Training This would aHow me to take the Apple Macintosh Service Exam (9LO-007) and the Mac OS X vI 05 Troubleshooting Exam (9LO-06 I)
7 A List goals you hope to achieve in this proposed professional activity
My goals are to obtain certification in the class stated above and in doing so become recognized as an Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) (See attached) The ACSP certification is intended for Mac as x technical coordinators and entry-level system administrators tasked with maintaining a modest network of computers using Mac OS X Server
I will also get certification as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) which would allow me to better maintain the hardware portion of the systems that are presently on this campus ACMT certification is intended for technicians employed by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Self Servicing Account (SSA) or for persons motivated to demonstrate their knowledge of technician-level service and support skills

These certifications will allow me to be more inline with the industry standardized method for working with both the server and the workstation versions of Mac as 105 that are deployed at the college It will also allow me to do more repair work on the Apple hardware without voiding the warranty eliminating the need for an out-call Apple Technician on anything but the most-complicated issues Training in these areas will allow me to better support the Graphic Design Program and the Computer Art Program which completely depend on this technology as well as the Photography Program which partially depends on it

I will also get certification as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) which would allow me to better maintain the hardware portion of the systems that are presently on this campus ACMT certification is intended for technicians employed by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Self Servicing Account (SSA) or for persons motivated to demonstrate their knowledge of technician-level service and support skills

With the funding that was generously provided by the Faculty Association I first purchased one year of Apple Care Technician Training which provides all the information you need to prepare for the Apple Service Certification exams for desktop and portable systems This easy-to-use self-paced program includes training materials diagnostic tools and extensive information from Apples own technical library Most important the Macintosh service training curriculum was developed by the people who know Apple systems best
Next I went to NYC for three days to attend the Leopard 10 1 Class Mac as x Support Essentials is a three-day hands-on course that provides an in-depth exploration of troubleshooting on Mac as X This course is designed to give you a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of Mac as x systems The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience
Soon after the course I took the following tests
1 Apple Macintosh Service Exam (9LO-007) - Tests practical knowledge of effectively and safely troubleshooting and repairing Apple Macintosh systems including displays
2 Mac as x vlO5 Troubleshooting Exam (9LO-061) - Tests practical knowledge of Mac OS X emphasizing troubleshooting ofMac as x version 105 and applies knowledge ofMac as x 105 toward identifying common Mac OS X issues
3 Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam (9LO-402)
Passing the Apple Macintosh Service Exam and the Mac as X 105 Troubleshooting Exam certified me as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician while the Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam certified me as a Apple Certified Support Professional 105
With these certifications I intend to ask the College to apply to become a Self-Servicing Account This would save the College money and time The website describes the Self-Servicing Account as follows
Apples Self-Servicing Account (SSA) program is designed for institutions and businesses that want the convenience of repairing their own products Program participants (Self-Servicers) must have an installed base of at least 50 Apple computers are authorized to repair only the products they own or lease and may not perform repair work for third parties
Qualified institutions (education government and non-profit organizations) and businesses that fulfill the minimum requirements of the program can use Apples online systems to quickly and easily accomplish the following
Obtain genuine Apple Do-Jt-Yourself (DIY) parts which are customer installable and typically include replacement keyboards mice power cables memory and modem cables
Directly initiate Mail-In facilitation service for select products Order parts for Non-covered Repairs stock on hand or fulfillment
In addition Self-Servicers that maintain Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians on staff can perform more intricate Covered Repairs
Covered Repairs include the repair of products covered by an Apple Hardware Warranty AppleCare Protection Plan or other AppleCare Extended Service Agreement

Next I went to NYC for three days to attend the Leopard 10 1 Class Mac as x Support Essentials is a three-day hands-on course that provides an in-depth exploration of troubleshooting on Mac as X This course is designed to give you a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of Mac as x systems The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience
Soon after the course I took the following tests
1 Apple Macintosh Service Exam (9LO-007) - Tests practical knowledge of effectively and safely troubleshooting and repairing Apple Macintosh systems including displays
2 Mac as x vlO5 Troubleshooting Exam (9LO-061) - Tests practical knowledge of Mac OS X emphasizing troubleshooting ofMac as x version 105 and applies knowledge ofMac as x 105 toward identifying common Mac OS X issues
3 Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam (9LO-402)
Passing the Apple Macintosh Service Exam and the Mac as X 105 Troubleshooting Exam certified me as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician while the Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam certified me as a Apple Certified Support Professional 105
With these certifications I intend to ask the College to apply to become a Self-Servicing Account This would save the College money and time The website describes the Self-Servicing Account as follows

Next I went to NYC for three days to attend the Leopard 10 1 Class Mac as x Support Essentials is a three-day hands-on course that provides an in-depth exploration of troubleshooting on Mac as X This course is designed to give you a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of Mac as x systems The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience
Soon after the course I took the following tests
1 Apple Macintosh Service Exam (9LO-007) - Tests practical knowledge of effectively and safely troubleshooting and repairing Apple Macintosh systems including displays
2 Mac as x vlO5 Troubleshooting Exam (9LO-061) - Tests practical knowledge of Mac OS X emphasizing troubleshooting ofMac as x version 105 and applies knowledge ofMac as x 105 toward identifying common Mac OS X issues

Next I went to NYC for three days to attend the Leopard 10 1 Class Mac as x Support Essentials is a three-day hands-on course that provides an in-depth exploration of troubleshooting on Mac as X This course is designed to give you a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of Mac as x systems The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience
Soon after the course I took the following tests
1 Apple Macintosh Service Exam (9LO-007) - Tests practical knowledge of effectively and safely troubleshooting and repairing Apple Macintosh systems including displays
2 Mac as x vlO5 Troubleshooting Exam (9LO-061) - Tests practical knowledge of Mac OS X emphasizing troubleshooting ofMac as x version 105 and applies knowledge ofMac as x 105 toward identifying common Mac OS X issues
3 Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam (9LO-402)
Passing the Apple Macintosh Service Exam and the Mac as X 105 Troubleshooting Exam certified me as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician while the Mac OS X Support Essentials 105 Exam certified me as a Apple Certified Support Professional 105
With these certifications I intend to ask the College to apply to become a Self-Servicing Account This would save the College money and time The website describes the Self-Servicing Account as follows
