How is Stack effect costing you money and affecting your health? Stack Effect means that air rises through your home from bottom to top. As heat rises and goes out the top of your home it causes moist moldy air from your crawlspace to be drawn into your living area.

The Stack Effect draws in unfiltered outside air from your crawl space, doors, windows, and any other cracks and crevices from the outdoors in-cluding your bathroom exhaust fan and clothes dryer.

How effective is the insulation in your attic? Your home may only have the “code minimum” of insulation not the amount which the Department of Energy recommends How hot does your attic get? You may also require a radiant barrier in your attic. Is it hard to cool your top floor? A solar attic fan will improve ventilation and remove hot air in your attic. When your attic reaches 130 degrees F. it bakes your fiber insulation and

transfers heat into your living area during the day and into the night. By air sealing, increasing the insulation, installing a radiant barrier and so-lar attic fan, the temperatures in the attic can be reduced by as much as 50 degrees, reducing cooling costs to your living area. The ReCardio system retrofits standard exercise equipment to capture en-ergy from the machine and send voltage directly back to the utility grid. An installation in Gainesville on 15 elliptical machines has already created more than 200 kilowatt-hours without a minute of required maintenance. Progress Energy, a Florida utility company, agreed this week to split the bill with the University of Florida for installations on 40 machines, with the potential for more.
