Egypt (08-09-1955), BeNeLux and Italy (13-05-1959), Switzerland (13-12-1960), France (17-10-1961)• New Section: UK & Rep of Ireland (10-07-1962)

The boundaries of IEEE Region 81
1 January 1963: At the merger, IRE Region 9 was renamed IEEE Region 8 without any change in its boundaries; the rest of the world (with 6 Sections at that time) was IEEE Region 9. IEEE Region 10 was established on 1 January 1967.

1 January 1970: Greenland was added to Region 8, and all the countries that were partly in Region 8 (the USSR and countries in North Africa) are now considered to belong completely to Region 8. 17 time zones – The sun never sets!
