IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

The Institute of Electrical andElectronics Engineers is a professionalassociation with its corporate officein New York City and its operationscenter in Piscataway, New Jersey. It wasformed in 1963 from the amalgamationof the American Institute of ElectricalEngineers and the Institute of RadioEngineers. Today it is the world's largestassociation of technical professionalswith more than 400,000 members inchapters around the world.

IEEE produces over 30% of the world's literature in the electrical and electronicsengineering and computer science fields, publishing well over 100 peer-reviewedjournals.

IEEE IoT Enables Discussion & Engagement: IoT Use Cases

17http://iot.ieee.org/iot-scenarios.html

To really understand the Internet of Things (IoT) requires application, implementation, andexecution in the real world. IEEE IoT recently launched a program to provide the IoTcommunity an interactive platform on which to engage with use cases, servicedescriptions, business models, and reference implementations that will be key todeveloping a vibrant IoT industry. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to contribute tothe IoT cause, as well as get excellent exposure for your projects and ideas.

IEEE IoT Startup Resources

18http://iot.ieee.org/startups.html

The IEEE IoT Startup Resources enable emerging players in the IoT market to share anddiscuss their endeavors with the IEEE community. Use this platform to connect withcommunity members and discover new innovations in the evolving field of IoT. To contributeyour ideas, we invite you to get involved at upcoming IoT Startup Events hosted by the IEEEStandards Association (IEEE-SA) and the IEEE Internet of Things (IoT) Initiative.

First place: Perfect Playlist: A playlist that dynamically adjusts environment (songs, lighting, etc.) based on pre-determined settings, using crowd-sourced song preferencesand sensor inputs as feedback.

Runner-up: Rounds: Sensors (iBeacons) placed in key spots within a hospital (patientbeds, handwashing stations) to track movement of heath care workers and interactionwith patients. iPhone app for heath care workers, iPad app for in-room data entry (canuse iPhone for this if room does not have iPad). Backend analysis, reporting and processoptimization logic.

Third Place: MarkeThings: MarkeThings bring value to data by connecting people withbusiness.

IEEE Travel Grants

IEEE Region 8 - VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION FUNDTravel support for participation in conferences that are located in Region 8 andorganised or sponsored by IEEE R8 organisational units.

Region 8 IEEE is quite diverse in nature covering Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It isthe fast growing IEEE Region. The average income in various R8 countries differssignificantly. That is why a IEEE R8 Voluntary Contribution Fund (IEEE R8 VCF) wascreated. This fund is fed by voluntary contributions donated by Region 8 members. Themoney is then used to support members and especially students and graduate studentmembers with low income in their professional and technical activities.

Member of IEEE R8 at least in a second year.

Travel to a conference sponsored or co-sponsored by IEEE

Conference within the geographical area of Region 8

The maximum amount provided can not exceed US$1000.

IEEE Grants for Projects

Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) in IEEEEPICS in IEEE awards grants to university student groups to work on socially innovativeprojects that may address local community-service needs such as access and abilities, education and outreach, environment, and human services. Projects must be submitted byan IEEE member and involve a non-profit organization partner. Collaboration with a localhigh school is also encouraged. Typical awards use IEEE funding for project related supplies(as opposed to personnel costs) with award amounts in the US$5,000 to US$10,000 range.

There is no deadline for applications. Applications are accepted throughout the year on arolling basis. Apply today and help impact your community.
