THE INWIDO EXAMPLE

Page 21: Ideon Science's Park approach to network-based innovation

A structured open innovation process, in the shape of a competition.

We involved existing and new players to Inwido.- start-ups, scienstist, students, suppliers , customers and small companies

16 team where formed to come up with new solutions to Inwido´schallenges. Each solution included both a physical product and a business model.

All took 4 months. The public part lasted 10 week at Ideon in Lund. Every Thursday the teams, including Inwido, was on site to create the solutions.

Science Park´s Value to the largecorporation in Open Innovation

Page 36: Ideon Science's Park approach to network-based innovation

Overall goal:Establish a sales channel to reach target customers who want to create objects that cannot be made with existing technology- short term reach 1+ million EURO sales- long term reach 10+ million EURO sales

Do this by using open innovation !

Base Facts on the Client1500+ EMPLOYEES IN 10+ COUNTRIES2000+ CUSTOMERS IN 50+ COUNTRIES1.000M EURO TURNOVER

A real case

The client wants to be a supplier of 3D-metal printed parts

Page 37: Ideon Science's Park approach to network-based innovation

CustomersCustomers are companies with a need of 3D-metal printing of objects that cannot be made in a traditional way.

Technical

– The client has developed a patented system/process enabling 3D-metal printing using stainless steel metal powder. Other materials are under development

– With a porosity of 5% makes the 3D-metal printed components better or as good as industrial made components. Many industrial made components average 10% porosity

– Size of components that can be made are from 2mm to 30mm in cube

– The solution is patented

Sales

– An option is to lease a 3D-metal printing machine

– Today sales is conducted mainly through fairs

Competition

– Existing competitors on the market make larger and more rough components with not as good definition

A real case
