Plan your strategySaves time, more effective and should give better results
Write a precise definition of what you are looking for
Make a list of keywords, phrases, synonyms and names
Be prepared to narrow or broaden your search as you go along
Avoid plagiarismBe methodical - list all the places or sources you are going to
search and tick them off as you check them.
BOOKS: Note the author, title, place of publication, publisher and date of publication.
JOURNALS: Note the author, year of publication, title of the article, title of the journal, volume or part number and page reference.
Avoid plagiarismINTERNET PAGES: Note the author, year the site was published/updated, title of the site, the URL and the date you accessed it. If you can’t find an author, just the title will be enough.
Use different coloured ink or a different font for your own thoughts.
Avoid plagiarismCite Them Right: the essential referencing guide. Copies in the School Library
Keep track of websitesMinimum: cut and paste URLs into a Word
document

not comprehensive and often impossible to read the whole article.
Google Books http://books.google.co.uk/ helps you discover books but not necessarily read them online.
Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk Can often look inside books at contents and chapters
