A meteorologist is a person who studies the weather.

They measure the temperature, air pressure, winds, humidity, and precipitation. They use this information to make weather maps. These maps help us forecast the weather.

When conditions indicate that severe weather might occur, the National Weather Service issues advisories.

Isobars are lines joining places on a map that have equal air pressure. Isobars can show how fast the wind is blowing. If they are close together the wind is stronger.
