Welcome to Mallow College of FurtherEducation (MCFE) and thank you fortaking time to read through the EveningEducation prospectus for Autumn 2014.Evening Education is the newrebranded department of MCFE, thelargest further education college inNorth Cork. A wide range ofprogrammes are on offer, varying fromaccredited and general interestprogrammes available every Autumnand Spring. The programmes on offerare adapted each term to suit the needsand interests of learners and industry.The programmes enable learners todevelop new skills in a specific areawhich can aid future employments.MCFE values the importance ofeducation and for Autumn 2014 thetheme is “Opening Minds, CreatingFutures”. Paramount to the success ofMCFE is the building of strongrelationships between learners, tutorsand local community groups/organisations. A variety of programmesbeing offered have accreditation by anumber of awarding bodies, the newestof which is The Institute ofIncorporated Public Accountants(IIPA).

The vision for the Evening EducationDepartment is to continue forging linkswith industry and developingprogrammes that aid local industryneeds and create opportunities forlearners to develop new skill sets.

MCFE boosts two campuses with awide variety of modern high qualityfacilities, which creates the idealenvironment for teaching and learning.

We have a number of new programmesavailable for Autumn 2014 and haverevised a number of our existingprogrammes. New programmesinclude: Incorporated PublicAccountant, Manual and ComputerisedPayroll/Bookkeeping, DigitalMarketing, Job Hunting on the Internet,Bridge for Beginners, Garden Design,Occupational First Aid, CreativeWriting, Body Massage, WordProcessing, Tablet for Beginners’ andChildcare level 6 FETAC/QQI.

The Institute of Incorporated Public Accountants (IIPA) is a “Recognised AccountancyBody” under the terms of the Companies Acts. As a “Recognised Accountancy Body”the IIPA trains, accredits and regulates accountants and auditors. Vision of the ProfessionalAccounting Education.The Institute’s goal is to become the choice for the further development of qualifiedAccounting Technicians who want to enter into audit and accounting practice. The IIPAdo this by providing access to high quality, recognised professional accounting trainingwhich will allow accounting technicians qualify as Professional Accountants morequickly than any of the other Recognised Accounting Bodies and for a lower cost thanany other Recognised Accounting Body.

Programme DescriptionThe IIPA’s professional accounting qualification is recognised under the Companies Actsfor accounting and audit, as well as the Professional Services Directive of the EuropeanUnion. It has been designed to allow students qualify as both accountants and auditorsin line with the relevant national and international standards in the area. AccountingTechnicians can qualify as a professional accountant and auditor by passing eightmodules in as little as two years. IPA students are adultswho must balance their work and domestic lives. These students often choose to studywith the IPA and its partner institutions because of the Institute’s recognised commitmentto flexible, student-friendly study options. Programmes are part-time, so students canremain in full-time employment or attend to other aspects of their lives while workingtoward their qualification.

At undergraduate level, the IPA offers a range of certificates, diplomas and degrees.These range in length from one to four-years. Students with certain qualifications maybe eligible to skip certain subjects within programmes or entire stages. Below is someinformation on the IPA’s Bachelor of Arts (Hons) programme and its Bachelor ofBusiness Studies (Hons) programme.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons)This degree is a four-year part-time programme that provides a comprehensiveexamination and analysis of subjects critical to contemporary public management.Students take four subjects in each year. At the end of the first year students receive theinterim award of a Certificate in Public Management. At the end of the second yearstudents receive the interim award of a Diploma in Public Management. The programmeinvolves a mixture of core subjects and subjects from one of the six streams that areoffered: public management, local government, law and the administration of justice,management, human resource management, and healthcare management. The BA (Hons)is at Level 8 on the 10-point National Framework of Qualifications.

Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons)This degree is a four-year part-time programme that focuses on the subjects, principles,and practices essential to modern business life. Students take four subjects in each year.At the end of the first year students receive the interim award of a Certificate in BusinessStudies. At the end of the second year students receive the interim award of a Diplomain Business Studies. The programme involves a mixture of core subjects and subjectsfrom one of the four streams that are offered: accounting, human resource management,marketing, and information systems management. Graduates of this programme canapply for exemptions from the exams of various professional bodies, including ACCAand CIMA. The BBS (Hons) is at Level 8 on the 10-point National Framework ofQualifications.
