I would like to welcome your child to a new and exciting school year at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. In order to better serve the needs of your child and to be able to comply with Miami-Dade County School Board policy, a mandatory uniform pol icy has been put in effect:

Students wearing any article of clothing, jewelry, or hairstyle that can be constructed as hazardous, distasteful or a distraction to the learning environment will not be allowed in school. Students are expected to come to school wit h proper attention given to personal cleanliness and neatness. Students whose personal attire or hygiene distracts the attention of other students or teachers from their school work wi ll be required to make the necessary changes before entering the classroom or will be sent home by the principal and subject to appropriate disciplinary measures.

~BULLDOGS 2019-2020 Attendance Contract

The student, parent , and school agree that the student's education is based on the student's participat ion in school, and the key to participation is regular attendance at the school. Therefore, the school agrees to provide an educat ional environment and the student agrees to be in attendance in accordance with this contract as follows:

I. Students need to attend school daily. Absences are excused for the following reasons:

✓ Illness of self or immediate family. ✓ Medical appointment (should be made for after school) ✓ Death in the family ✓ Religious observance ✓ Immigration or court appearance

✓ Situat ion beyond the control of the parent or student, as determined by the principal or principal's designee. Doctor, dent ist, and other appointments should be made after school.

NO SIGN OUTS Will BE PERMITTED AFTER 1:50 P.M.

II. When an absence occurs, the student agrees to provide a note explaining the absence signed by the parent and containing the parent's contact numbers. Students must have official documentation with the signed note, if the absence is due to an appointment or court date. Notes must be submitted before school or during lunch. Students ONLY have three (3) days to have the note excused. It is the student's responsibility of excusing his/her absences. Students should have all teachers sign the excused admits and save them in case of any future discrepancies which may occur.

Ill. Any st udent who accumulates ten (10) unexcused absences for an annual course or (5) unexcused absences for a semester course will receive an NC (No Credit) in that course. (There will be no make-up hours)

IV. Students who accumulate 45 or more absences for an annual course or 23 or more in a semester course, excused or unexcused, will receive an NC (No Credit) for that course.

V. Once a student has accumulated a total of ten (10) absences, excused or unexcused, a parent or student must submit a doctor's note or the parent must come into the Attendance Office in person in order to excuse t he absences. AGAIN, PLEASE BE RE MINDED THAT THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN THE THREE DAY DEADLINE IN ORDER FOR THE ABSENCE TO BE EXCUSED.

VI. St udents run the risk of being withdrawn if he/she has accumulated 20 or more absences in two or more classes. Alternat ive programs may be recommended for students wishing to cont inue their education.

VII. Students who are tardy to school during 1" period report directly to 1" period. Students arriving late to school after 1" period must report to the At tendance Office to secure an admit. Failure to report to the attendance office after arriving late after period 1 will result in student being marked absent to school.

VIII. Tardies 1-9 may only be excused by a parent walking into the attendance office with the student. Once a st udent accumulates ten (10) tardies in a school year, the parent must bring in a doctor's note in order to excuse any tardy to school. Excessive tardies will result in loss of privileges and/or detentions and/or suspensions.

IX. Individuals NOT LISTED on the emergency contact card Will NOT be permitted to sign a student out of school. All individuals l isted on the emergency contact card must be twenty-one (21) or older. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES.

The student and parent are to accept the responsibilities and duties implied for the above and agree to follow directions of the staff and Attendance Appeals Committee. This agreement is based on the laws of t he State of Florida and rules of t he School Board of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. If you have any questions you may contact the Attendance Office of G. El estudiante, el padre y la escuela estan de acuerdo que la educaci6n del alumno esta basada en su asistencia diaria al colegio. El colegio se compromete a proveer una atm6sfera educacional y el estudiante se responsabiliza a cumplir este contrato.

I. El alumno debe asistir diariamente a sus clases. Las ausencias seran excusadas por las siguientes razones:

• Enfermedad del estudiante o de un miembro de su familia • Citas medicas (debe ser en horas despues de clase) • Muerte en la familia • Fiestas religiosas

• Aspectos de inmigraci6n ode la corte

• Situaciones imprevistas aprobada por el director

• Se le pide a los estudiantes que hagan lo posible por hacer citas medicas y legales despues de las horas de clases.

NO ESTA PERMITIDO RECOGER A LOS ESTUDIANTES DESPUES DE LAS 1:S0 P.M.

II. Cuando el estudiante este ausente debe presentar una nota explicando la raz6n por la cual ha faltado al colegio. Los padres deben firmar la nota y

escribir el telefono de la casa y del trabajo. Si la ausencia del alumno es debido a una cita con el medico, dentista o la corte debe traer documentaci6n oficial. El estudiante tiene 3 dias para presentar la documentaci6n necesaria antes de las horas de colegio o durante el almuerzo a la oficina de "ATTENDANCE". El estudiante tiene la responsabilidad de obtener las firmas de sus maestros y de guardar todas las excusas firmadas en caso de que tenga que apelar por sus notas mas tarde.

Il l. Si un estudiante acumula 10 o mas ausencias no excusadas en un curso anual, o cinco (5) ausencias no excusadas en un curso semestral, recibira un NC (No Credito) en ese curso.

V. VII. Los estudiantes que llegan al colegio tarde durante la primera clase deben reportarse directamente a la clase. Si el estudiante llega despues de la primera hora, tiene que reportarse a la oficina de asistencia para obtener un permiso de entrada. Si nose reporta a la oficina de asistencia al llegar al colegio despues de la primera hora va a ser marcado ausente y la ausencia va a contar contra el estudiante.

VIII. Para poder excusar las tardanzas (1-9 solamente), el padre o guardian necesita entrar a la oficina de asistencia con el estudiante. Una vez que un estudiante ha Ila acumulado diez (10) tardanzas, el padre necesita traer una nota del medico para poder excusar la llegada tarde. Si un alumno acumula muchas tardanzas podria resultar en la perdida de privilegios y podrfa recibir detenciones o suspensiones.

• Students of G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School must wear a current school identification card at all times while on school property.

• Students must not alter, deface or allow any other student to be in possession of their ID.

• Student ID cards will be issued early in the school year at no charge. A replacement ID may be purchased for a fee of $5.00. A temporary ID card, good for one school day, may be purchased for a fee of $1.00, and an extra lanyard may be purchased as needed.

• Students in class with no ID will be sent to the office and are subject to disciplinary action.

• Student must surrender his/her ID badge upon transfer or withdrawal from G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School.

Safety and Security of our students and staff is our #1 priority and we take this responsib ility very seriously. There are many security measures that have been implemented as a District and as a school with the goal of making our campus as secure as possible. As a result, G. Holmes Braddock will be strictly enforcing these procedures. Below are procedures that have always been in place in addition to some added measures to ensure our students and staff are in a safe learning environment.

• We have revised our entrance procedures, to include verification of and maintaining a written log of state/country-issued identification for verification and access into the main office. These measures supplement our existing security protocols, including our closed-circuit camera system, our visitor identification procedures, and security staff.

• All student must be in uniform daily.

o Bottoms - Khakhi, blue, or jeans (no ripped or holes in jeans) o Tops - Gray, Blue, White, or spirit shirts only.

• Arrive to school on time. Students should arrive to school between 6:45 - 7:10 a.m. This will provide enough time to report to class by 7:20 am for the start of school. Al l exterior gates will be secured by 7:20 am. Any student late to school should report to the main entrance of the building to be processed as tardy.

• Classroom doors will remain locked and closed at all times as a safety measure. • Lockdown and evacuation drills are conducted regularly with our entire school popu lation.

We are thoroughly checking that each student has their school identification visibly on their lanyard at all times, are in complete uniform, and arrive to school on t ime. These practices will ensure that G. Holmes Braddock SHS continues to be a safe place for learning. We appreciate all students and parents w ho follow our rules and regulations and thank you for helping us to keep our students and staff in a safe and secure learning environment.

La seguridad y protecci6n de nuestros estudiantes y personal es nuestra prioridad numero uno y tomamos esta responsabilidad muy en serio. Hay muchas medidas de seguridad implementadas como Distrito y coma escuela con el objetivo de hacer que nuestra escuela sea lo mas segura posible. Como resultado, G. Holmes Braddock aplicara estrictamente estos procedimientos. WALKING SAFELY: • Walking to school promotes health, saves gas, saves time, and reduces traffic congestion around schools.

• STOP at the curb/edge of pavement, and look LEFT-RIG HT-LEFT before crossing a street. Always use

designated crosswalks and pedestrian signals with a crossing guard, when available. Do not cross in front of a vehicle unless you know for sure the driver clearly sees you, and has come to a complete stop.

BICYCLING SAFELY: • Get ready to ride by putting on a properly-fitted helmet and doing a pre-ride ABC Quick check (air, brakes, chain and

quick release) of the bike to make sure it is safe to ride.

• Be predlctablel Follow the rules of the road at all times.

• Bevlslblel When cycling (or walking) in the daytime wear bright colors. During dawn, dusk and at night, use reflective gear (even on backpacks). Your bike should include front white headlights and rear red taillights in order to be more visible to drivers. Carry a flashlight.

• Be famlllar with your surroundings, and NEVER accept rides from strangers!

DRIVING SAFELY: • Obey all posted speed signs.

• When stopping, standing, or parking your vehicle, please use the designated areas only. • Buckle Up - and Don't Text and Drive!

RIDING BUSES SAFELY: School Bus Safety Tips - for children: • When walking to a bus stop, use sidewalks if available. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left facing traffic. • Never speak to strangers at the bus stop or get into a stranger's car. • Wait for the bus to arrive. Watch for the red flashing lights and the Stop arm to extend. • When riding in a bus, always wear your seatbelt, obey the driver, and - when exiting the bus to cross the street - cross

in front of the bus so the bus driver can see you. Do not dart into the next lane of traffic without checking!

School Bus Safety Tips - for drivers: • Red flashing lights and an extended stop arm signal indicate the bus is stopped and that children are getting on or

off. All cars m.u.u stop a safe distance away and not proceed until the red lights stop flashing.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and student over 18 years of age "eligible students" certain rights with respect to the student's educational records. They are:

1. The right to restrict the release of directory information which includes name, address, telephone if it is a listed number, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended. I f you do not want this information released, please complete the Directory Information Opt-Out Form and return it to the school within 30 days after the first day of classes.

2. The right to restrict the release of a student's name, address and telephone listing to military recruiters and institutions of higher education as required by federal law. This request applies to our students in the senior high schools. M-DCPS is required to advise you of this requirement and afford you the opportunity to notify the school, if you do not want this information disclosed to the military recruiters and institutions of higher learning. I f you do not want this information released, please complete the Directory Information Opt-Out Form and return it to the school within 30 days after the first day of classes.

3. The right to inspect and review the student's educational records upon request. Parents or eligible students should submit a written request to the school principal that identifies the record(s) they wish to inspect. The principal will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or eligible student of the time and place where the records may be inspected. Copies of records may be requested and obtained.

4. The right to request the amendment of the student's educational record that the parents or eligible students believes are inaccurate, misleading, or inappropriate. Parents or eligible students may ask Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) to amend a record that they believe is inaccurate, misleading, or inappropriate. A written request to the principal should clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading. I f the principal decides to amend the records as requested, the parents or eligible students will be notified of the decision and advised of their right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the parents or eligible students with notification of the right to a hearing.

5. The right to consent to disclosures or personally identified information contained in the student's educational records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests. A school official is a person employed by M-DCPS as an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff member (including health or medical staff and law enforcement unit personnel). A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an educational record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility. Upson request, M_DCPS discloses educational records without consent to the officials of another school district or postsecondary institution in which a student seeds or intends to enroll.

6. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by M-DCPS to comply with the requirement of FERPA. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is:

Al recibo de la peticicin, el/la director/a hara los arreglos necesarios y notificara al/padre o madre o al/a la estudiante elegible de la feche y lugar donde se pueden revisar los expedientes. Se puede, solicitor y obtener una copia de los documentos.

4. El derecho a solicitar que se enmiende el exediente academico de un/a estudiante que los padres o los estudiantes elegibles consideren inexacto, engafioso or inapropiado. Los padres o estudiantes elegibles pueden inviar una notificacion por escrito al/a la director/a, pidiendo que las escuelas publicas del condado de Miami-Dade o M-DCPS, por sus siglas en ingles, enmienden el expediente que se considera inexacto, engafioso o inapropiado. La nota debe explicar con claridad que parte del expediente se desea cambiar y la razon por la cual se considera inexacto o engafioso. Si el/la director/a decide no enmendarlos, notificara a los padres o al/a la estudiante elegible de su decision, advirtiendoles de su derecho a apelar la decision, a funcionarios escolares de mas alta jerarquia. A los padres o estudiantes elegibles se les proporcionara informacion adicional explicando las procedimeintos por los cuales pueden obtener una audiencia y sus derecho a tenerla.

5. El derecho a permitir que se revele la informacion que ha sido personalmente identificada dentro de los expedientes academicos del/de la estudiante, con la excepcion de aquella que FERPA autorice que sea revelada sin consentimiento previo. Un/a funcionario/a escolar con un legitimo interes educacional que pide un expediente academico para revisarlo, representa una excepci6n, por la cual se permite que este pueda ser revelado sin consentimeinto previo. Un/a funcionario/ a escolar es una persona que esta empleada por M-DCPS como un/a administrador/a, supervisor/a, miembro del personal de apoyo, incluyendo personal medico o de salud y policias a cargo de cumplimiento de la ley. Un/a funcionario/a escolar tiene un interes educacional legitimo cuando para cumplir su responsabilidad professional, necesita revisar el expediente academico. Si funcionarios de otro distrito escolar o institucion postsecundaria a la cual quiere asistir el/la estudiante piden sus expedientes academicos, M-DCPS los puede revelar sin previo consentimiento.

6. El derecho a elevar la queja correspondiente sobre los supuestos fallas de M-DCPS en el cumplimiento del requisito de FERPA, ante el Departamento de Educacion de los Estados Unidos. El nombre y direccion de la oficina que administra FERPA es:

Team Performing Group Rules

All interscholastic athletics and school activities are meant to contribute to the overall academic excellence achieved by a student participant. The following rules and consequences are seen as the basic conditions that must be met by a student who wishes to represent his or her school through interscholastic competitions or performances:

1) A student must maintain a cumulative 2.00 GPA or higher as specified bys. 1003.43(1 ) Florida Statutes. 2) A student must receive a minimum 2.00 in conduct in the preceding semester. 3) If a student is assigned to Indoor Suspension/School Center for Special ized Instruction (SCSI), he or she wi ll be unable to

participate in interscholastic competitions or performances on the day(s) on which he or she is assigned. If the assignment to SCSI takes place on/or includes a Friday, the student will be unable to participate in interscholastic competitions or performances on the weekend.

4) A student who is serving an Outdoor Suspension or is assigned to the Student Success Center (SSC) cannot practice or participate in interscholastic competitions or performances and may be subject to further sanctions or penalties.

5) A student who has a total of eleven (11 ) cumulative days of suspension (indoor, outdoor/SSC) will not be allowed to participate in interscholastic competitions or performances for the remainder of the school year.

6) A student who has ten (10) or more cumulative absences will not be allowed to participate in interscholastic competitions or performances for the remainder of the school year. (Outdoor suspension is considered an absence.)

7) A student who has twenty (20) or more cumulative tardies will not be allowed to participate in interscholastic competitions or performances for the remainder of the school year.

8) A student must be reported as present for the school day in order to participate in interscholastic competitions or performances, including practices.

9) A student who participates in interscholastic competitions or performances and has not performed at grade level as defined by the Florida Department of Education may seek two (2) hours per week of academic tutoring.

I 0) Any student who is arrested for conduct occurring on or off school grounds will be prohibited from participating in all interscholastic competitions or performances for a minimum of ten (10) days, including practices.

I have read and understand the requirements of the Contract for Student Participation in Interscholastic Competitions or Performances. I understand that participation in interscholastic competitions or performances is a privilege and not a right. I understand that I am expected to perform according to this contract and the team/performing group rules. I understand that there may be sanctions or penalties, which may include suspension or dismissal from the team/performing group.

Reglas para equipos y grupos a cargo de presentaciones

Todas las actividades de atletismo lnter-escolares y escolares tienen la intencion de contribuir a la excelencia academica en general que logre el/la estudiante participante. Las siguientes reglas y consecuencias se consideran las condiciones basicas que debera cumplir un(a) estudiante que desee representar a su escuela mediante competencias inter escolares o presentaciones.

1) El/La estudiante debera mantener un promedio acumulativo de calificaciones (GPA. por sus siglos en ingles) de 2.00 o superior. segun se especifica e n s . 10003.43(1 ), de los Estatutos de la Florida.

2) El/La estudiante debera recibir un minimo de 2.00 en conducta cada semestre. 3) Si se asigna a un/a estudiante al Centro Suspension lnterna pa a la lnstruccion Especializada (SCSI, por

sus siglas en ingles), el/ella no podra participar en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones en los dias en los que este asignado(a). Si la asignaci6n al SCSI toma lugar y/o incluye a un viernes, el/la estudiante no podra participar en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones durante el fin de semana.

4) El/La estudiante que esta cumpliendo una suspension externa o esta asignado al Student Success Center (SSC) no podra practicar o participar en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones y pudiera estar sujeto/a a mas sanciones o penalidades.

5) No se permitira al/a la estudiante que tenga un total de once ( 11) dias de suspension/SSC acumulados que participe en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones por el resto del curso escolar.

6) No se permitira alta la estudiante que tenga diez (10) o mas ausencias acumuladas que participe en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones por el resto del curso escolar.

7) No se permitira al/a la estudiante que tenga veinte (20) o mas tardanza acumuladas que participe en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones por el resto del curso escolar.

8) Se debera reportar al/a la estudiante como presente el dia de clases para que pueda participar en competencias inter escolares o presentaciones, incluso en practicas.

9) El/La estudiante que participe en competencias inter escolares o p esentaciones y que no se haya desemperiado a su nivel de grado segun especifican e l Departamento de Educacion de la Florida puede asisti r a dos (2) horas semanales de clases academicas privadas.

10) A cualquier estudiante al que se le arreste por actos ocurridos dentro o fuera de la escuela se le prohibira I a participacion en todas las competencias inter escolares o presentaciones, incluso las practicas, por un minima de diez (10) dias.
