Welcome to ICVE’2021, the 8th International Conference on Vibration Engineering.
ICVE is one of a series of international conferences on vibration engineering, which
gathers every four years from the vibration community of the world. ICVE’2021 is an
important leading event in the area of vibration engineering, organized under the
auspices of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering, National Natural Science
Foundation of China, and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
The theme of ICVE’2021 is: Innovations and Advances in Vibrational World. The aim
of the conference is to discuss science and technologies, strengthen relationships,
create new contacts and gain a direct experience of new progresses in vibration and
in the growing field of applications of this discipline. With that in mind, we have 529
papers (464 oral presentations and 65 poster presentations). That includes a stellar
lineup of plenary and invited speeches from well-known experts on topics including
fluid-structure interactions, nonlinear dynamics, structural reliability, renewable
energy with smart materials, and acoustic black holes.
Welcome also to Shanghai with endless restaurant and shopping options. This
modern metropolis with its rich heritage of Chinese culture has much to see and do.
Nearby attractions include the Bund, Lujiazui Skyline, Yu Garden, Shanghai Disney,
and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. From iconic landmarks to floating
towns, museums teaching the culture and history of Shanghai, beautiful green
spaces and local hangouts, you’ll find something worth visiting around every corner
of China’s biggest city.
We would especially like to thank all the delegates from all over the world for coming

elected member of the National
Academy of Engineering, an
Honorary Fellow of the American
Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics (AIAA) and a Fellow
of the American Academy of
Mechanics and the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has also served as
Vice President for Publications and member of the
Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the
AIAA; as a member of the United States Air Force
Scientific Advisory Board; the Air Force Studies Board,
the Aerospace Science and Engineering Board and the
Board on Army Science and Technology of the National
Academies; the AGARD (NATO) advisory panel for
aerospace engineering, as President of the American
Academy of Mechanics, as Chair of the US National
Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and
as Chairman of the National Council of Deans of
Engineering. From the AIAA he has received the
Structure, Structural Dynamics and Materials Award, the
Von Karman Lectureship the Crichlow Trust Prize and
the Reed Aeronautics Award; from the ASME he has
received the Spirit of St. Louis Medal, the Den Hartog
Award and Lyapunov Medal; and he has also received
the Guggenheim Medal which is awarded jointly by the
AIAA, ASME, AHS and SAE. He has served on the
boards of visitors of several universities and is a
consultant to government, industry and universities in
science and technology policy and engineering
education as well as on the topics of his research. Dr.
Dowell research ranges over the topics of aeroelasticity,
non-steady aerodynamics, nonlinear dynamics and
structures. In addition to being author of over three
hundred research articles, Prof. Earl H. Dowell is the
author or co-author of four books, "Aeroelasticity of
Plates and Shells", "A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity",
"Studies in Nonlinear Aeroelasticity" and “Dynamics of
Very High Dimensional Systems”. His teaching spans the
disciplines of acoustics, aerodynamics, dynamics and
structures.

of Shanghai Institute of Disaster
Prevention and Relief. He
received Ph.D. in Civil
Engineering from Tongji University,
China in 1988, and honorary
doctorate in engineering science
from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2013. Currently Prof.
Li serves as the president of International Association for
Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR), and the vice
chairmen of Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering.
Owing to his academic achievements for stochastic
mechanics and reliability engineering, Professor Li was
awarded the Alfred M. Freudenthal Medal by ASCE in
2014.

Prof. Pol D. Spanos is the L. B. Ryon Chair Professor at Rice University in Houston, USA. He holds a 5-year program in engineering sciences and mechanical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece; and an MS (civil engineering), and a PhD (Applied
Mechanics and Applied Mathematics) from the California Institute of Technology, USA. He is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering (USA), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; and a Foreign Member of the Academies of several other counties. Professor Pol D. Spanos received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Presidential Young, and Richards Investigator Award for research in engineering mechanics. He is also a Pi Tau Sigma, a Larson medalist from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for outstanding achievement in mechanical engineering within ten, twenty years and beyond from
college graduation; a Huber Prize recipient for outstanding research from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); an A. M. Freudenthal Medalist from ASCE for lifetime contributions to probabilistic mechanics and reliability analysis; and a Newmark Medalist from ASCE for his contributions to the theory and applications of dynamics and vibrations. He has received the Research Award for Senior Scientists from the Humboldt Foundation in Germany for his contributions to engineering mechanics; and the Stochastic Dynamics Research Prize from the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR). Twice he has received the G. R. Brown Award for Superior Teaching at Rice University. He has served as an ASME Distinguished Lecturer for the period 1997-2003 with worldwide lecturing engagements. He is the 2003 Theodore Von Karman medalist from ASCE for lifetime contributions to engineering mechanics, and the 2020 Caughey Medalist from ASME for outstanding Contributions to the field of Nonlinear Dynamics.

Prof. Quan Wang is now the
Executive President of Shantou
University. He is also the chair
professor at Southern University
of Science and Technology.
Based on his outstanding
academic achievements, Prof.
Wang was inducted to the Royal
Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of
Engineering in 2016 and 2015 respectively. He was
awarded the Blaise Pascal Medal of the European
Academy of Sciences and Ivan Grishmanov Award of the
Russian Academy of Engineering in 2019 and 2020
respectively. He has also been a fellow of some
international professional societies such as the American
Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers. In addition, he has served as a
Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of
Mechanical Sciences. Prof. Wang is an influential scholar
in his research areas of energy harvesting, smart
materials, and nanotechnology.

Institute of Technology, Madras,
India, M.S. (Aerospace
Engineering) from Virginia Tech,
Blacksburg, VA, USA and Ph.D.
(Engineering Mechanics) from
Virginia Tech. Currently, he is a Minta Martin Professor of
Engineering at the University of Maryland, where he has
been since 1993. His research interests include
nonlinear phenomena, dynamics and vibrations, and
control. The publications that he has authored/co-
authored include a Wiley textbook entitled "Applied
Nonlinear Dynamics: Analytical, Computational, an d
Experimental Methods" (1995, 2004), a Cambridge
University Press textbook entitled "Vibrations" (2018),
and a co-edited Springer book entitled “Delay Differential
Equations: Recent Advances and New Directions”
(2009). He recently completed his terms as the Editor of
the ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear
Dynamics and a Contributing Editor of the International
Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics. His honors and
recognitions include being a ASME Fellow, a AIAA Fellow,
a Senior Member of IEEE, and the ASME Melville Award,
Den Hartog Award, and Lyapunov Award.

Prof. Shiyi Chen studied
mechanics at Zhejiang University
(B.Sc) from January 1978 to
January 1982. He did his
postgraduate study (M.Sc, PhD) at
Peking University. He was a post-
doctoral fellow at Los Alamos
National Laboratory USA from June
1987 to February 1990. From February 1990 to
December 1990, he was a research scientist at the Bartol
Research Institute, University of Delaware. From May
1990 till December 1993, he was a visiting faculty in the
Department of Mathematics, Colorado State University.
From December 1990 - November 1992, he was an
Oppenheimer Fellow at the Los Alamos National
Laboratory. November 1992 - September 1994, he was
a research staff and group leader in the same lab.
September 1994 - January 2000, he was a research staff
member at the IBM Research Division. Then he started
his career at the Johns Hopkins University. July 1997 -
January 2000, he was also the Deputy Director of the
Center for Nonlinear Studies, Los Alamos National
Laboratory. From 2005-2011, he became Dean of
Engineering at Peking University, China. From 2013-
2015, he became VP for Research at Peking University.
In 2015, he joined SUSTech, China, as university
President. Chen conducted research in lattice gas
methods in which he created important analysis
approaches and led engineering applications. He also
made contributions to high-performance computing. He
did fundamental studies in the theory of turbulence. For
these reasons, he was elected as a fellow of American
Physical Society (1995) and Institute of Physics (2004).
He was elected to member of Chinese Academy of
Sciences in 2013.

Prof. Jinhao Qiu is the Deputy
Director of State Key Laboratory of
Mechanics and Control of
Mechanical Systems. He received
the Bachelor and Master degrees in
mechanical engineering from
Nanjing University of Aeronautics
and Astronautics, China, in 1983 and 1986 respectively,
and the PhD degree in mechanical engineering from
Tohoku University, Japan in 1996. He was a research
associate from 1986 to 1989 and lecturer 1990 to 1991
at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Nanjing
University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was a
faculty member at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku
University from 1992 to 2006, where he was a research
associate from 1992 to 1998, an assistant professor
1998 to 2000, an associate professor from 2000 to 2004
and a professor from 2004 to 2006. Since March, 2006,
he is a Changjiang Chair Professor at the Nanjing
University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. In 2011, he
was selected to “The Recruitment Program of Global
Experts”. His main research interest is smart materials
and structural systems, including development of
piezoelectric materials and devices, vibration and noise
control, structural health monitoring, and non-destructive
testing. He has published more than 300 journal papers
(including more than 230 SCI-indexed journal papers),
12 review papers, and more than 260 conference papers.
He has also received 8 awards, including The 2002
Annual Dynamics, Measurement and Control Awards for
Pioneering Achievements in the research of smart
materials and structural systems from The Japan Society
of Mechanical Engineers. He is the associate editor of
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structure,
member of the editorial board of International Journal of
Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics and other four
journals. He became ASME Fellow in 2014.

B.S. and M.S. (1994) degrees
from Seoul National University,
Seoul Korea and Ph.D. (1999)
from Stanford University,
California, USA, all in Civil
Engineering. He worked at Los
Alamos National Laboratory
(LANL) from 1999 to 2004 as a
Technical Staff Member and in the Civil and
Environmental Engineering Department at Carnegie
Mellon University for 2004-2006 as an Assistant
Professor. He is now Professor at KAIST (Korea
Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), and the
Director of 3D Printing Nondestructive Center sponsored
by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in
Korea. Over last twenty-five years, his research interest
has been in the areas of structural health monitoring,
nondestructive testing, sensing technologies and data
analytics. His research interests include guided waves,
noncontact laser ultrasonics, structural health monitoring,
nondestructive testing, smart materials and sensing, and
statistical pattern recognition to name a few. He has
published over 190 refereed journal articles, over 370
conference proceedings, and 11 book & book chapters.
He is holding 27 domestic and 13 international patents,
and his developed technologies are licensed and
commercialized by private companies, resulting in over 1
Million USD licensing agreements. He is currently SPIE
Fellow, Member of National Academy of Engineering of
Korea (NAEK), and Member of Korean Academy of
Science and Technology (KAST). He was selected as
one of 100 most promising individuals in Korea in 2012
by Donga Daily Newspaper, which is one of the three
major newspapers in Korea. He was also the recipient of
SHM Person-of-Year Award at 2011 International
workshop on SHM, 2008 Young Scientists Award from
KAST and 2017 Young Engineers Award from NAEK,
2017 KAIST Best Research Award in Korea. His work
has been funded by the Boeing Company, Samsung
Electronics, Samsung Display, US Air Force Research
Laboratory, US Air Force Office of Scientific Research
(US AFOSR), US National Science Foundation, National
Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Agency for
Defense Development, Hyundai & KIA Motors, Hyundai
