Acknowledgment

This folio is made for our exercise learning area 2, the title given is The latest Open Source Software Available and the Latest Development in ICT, it was not an easy job for me, but I can done it in one day, with the help of my computer, internet, and the cd course that have been given by Pn. Amiza.

Nowadays, there are many type of open source software, such as Linux, Macintosh, and many more, but there are only a few open source software, that are good and trusted, such as Linux.

Open source software is much better than proprietary software, because it is update almost every two weeks, and its make the software is safe from hackers and virus,

I thought that all, hope Pn. Amiza happy with what I have done, and give me marks for my SPM.

Introduction

DEFINITION OPEN SOURCE

The term open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials. Some consider open source a philosophy, others consider it a pragmatic methodology. Before the term open source became widely adopted, developers and producers used a variety of phrases to describe the concept; open source gained hold with the rise of the Internet, and the attendant need for massive retooling of the computing source code. Opening the source code enabled a self-enhancing diversity of production models, communication paths, and interactive communities. Subsequently, the new phrase "open-source software" was born to describe the environment that the new copyright, licensing, domain, and consumer issues created

DEFINITION SOFTWARE

Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions telling a computer what to do and how to do it. We can also say software refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of the computer for some purposes. In other words software is a set of programs, procedures, algorithms and its documentation. Program software performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software. The term was coined to contrast to the old term hardware (meaning physical devices). In contrast to hardware, software is intangible, meaning it "cannot be touched". Software is also sometimes used in a more narrow sense, meaning application software only. Sometimes the term includes data that has not traditionally been associated with computers, such as film, tapes, and records

DEFINITION OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form for which the source code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are provided under a software license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software

Open Source Operating SystemDEFINITION OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM

An operating system is a set of programs that schedule tasks, allocates storage and presents a default interface to the user between applications. Many of the first operating systems were device-dependent and proprietary.

The functions of the operating systems are:

starting a computer providing a user interface managing data and programs managing memory configuring devices

A device-dependent program is the one that runs only on a specific make of a computer.

Proprietary software is privately owned and limited to a specific vendor or computer

explanation

Refers to the family of Unix-like computer operating systems using the Linux kernel. Linux can be installed on a wide variety of computer hardware, ranging from mobile phones, tablet computers and video game consoles, to mainframes and supercomputers.Linux is a leading server operating system, and runs the 10 fastest supercomputers in the world.

Production of the Mac is based on a vertical integration model in that Apple facilitates all aspects of its hardware and creates its own operating system that is pre-installed on all Mac computers. This is in contrast to most IBM PC compatibles, where multiple sellers create and integrate hardware intended to run another company's operating software. Apple exclusively produces Mac hardware, choosing internal systems, designs, and prices. Apple does use third party components, however, such as graphics subsystems from nVidia and ATi. Current Mac CPUs use Intel's x86 architecture; the earliest models (1984–1994) used Motorola's 68k and models from 1994–2006 used the AIM alliance's PowerPC. Apple also develops the operating system for the Mac, currently Mac OS X version 10.6 "Snow Leopard". The modern Mac, like other personal computers, is capable of running alternative operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD, and, in the case of Intel-based Macs, Microsoft Windows. However, Apple does not license Mac OS X for use on non-Apple computers.

year The name "Linux" comes from the Linux kernel, originally written in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. The main supporting user space system tools and libraries from the GNU Project (announced in 1983 by Richard Stallman) are the basis for the Free Software Foundation's preferred name GNU/Linux.

Latest   Open Source Application System OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SYSTEM

Application software is a computer program or a suite of computer programs that performs a particular function for the user. Application software includes all programs that perform specific tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, e-mail and Web browsing

A software application that enables a user to display and interact with text, images, and other information typically located on a web page at a website on the World Wide Web.

COMMON TYPES OF APPLICATION SOFTWARE

Word Processing Word Processing an office application that enables user to create, edit, format and print textual document.

Spreadsheet A program that processes information in the form of tables. Tables cells can hold values or mathematical formula.

Presentation An application software that allows a user to create visual aid for presentation to communicate ideas, messages and other information to a group.

Graphics Editing Program that can edit digital representation or non-text information such as drawing, charts and photograph.

explanation A basic hardware, use for home, and office, most being use right now, almost every home and office use this hardware,Example:MonitorKeyboardMouse

For the early releases of Mac OS X, the standard hardware platform supported was the full line of Macintosh computers (laptop, desktop, or server) based on PowerPC G3, G4, and G5 processors. Later versions discontinued support for some older hardware; for example, Panther does not support "beige" G3s, and Tiger does not support systems that pre-date Apple's introduction of integrated FireWire ports (the ports themselves are not a functional requirement). Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard", introduced October 2007, has dropped support for all PowerPC G3 processors and for PowerPC G4 processors with clock rates below 867 MHz. Mac OS X v10.6 "Snow Leopard" supports Macs with Intel processors, not PowerPC

Pervasive ComputingDEFINITION PERVASIVE COMPUTING

Pervasive computing means the technology that is gracefully integrated in our everyday life. The user is no longer aware of this embedded technology. Pervasive computing uses web technology, portable devices, wireless communications and nomadic or ubiquitous computing systems. Other terms for pervasive computing are Ubiquitous Computing, Calm Technology, and Things That Think. It is about the ability to deliver any information to any device over any network. In short, it is about computers everywhere where computers are embedded into equipments, machines, furniture or people. The current technology has evolved into embedded, networked and wireless.

used all over the world, but needed a download from computer,

compact size, can connect to internet, can make a call, messaging, and many more, yet, this is the latest and the best gadget

Conclusion

There are much type of software and hardware, but before you decide to pick any software and hardware, you should know about it first. There are many way to know about it, such as go to a computer shop and ask their opinion, or surf the web and learn about their product, and others comment.

But if I am going to buy a computer, I will be choose to buy, Macbook, because, it is much better than other, although it is expensive but its worth it,

And I advice everyone to buy it.
