    PRESS RELEASE

RE: ICM/TAMA Midwifery Services Gap Analysis 5 Days Workshop in Dar

es Salaam from 8thto 12thSeptember 2014 at White Sands Hotel.

The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) from The Hague Netherlands

will be visiting Tanzania Midwives Association (TAMA) from 8thto 12

    thSeptember

2014. This is the first time for ICM to visit Tanzania.

ICM works to strengthening midwifery globally including in low-resource countriesfor the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) especially MDG

4, 5 and 6. Similarly, TAMA works to strengthening midwifery nationally and

foster the development of midwifery care in Tanzania.

During their visit TAMA in collaboration with ICM have arranged to hold a Gap

Analysis workshop for 5 African country teams including Tanzania from 8th

    to 13th

September 2014. One of the strategies that ICM has been using successfully is

the Gap Analysis approach where specific tools are used to assess the midwifery

education and regulation in a country and how the midwives are organized as anassociation to contribute to the maternal newborn and child health services in

their countries. The assessment leads to identification of gaps or shortfalls in the

areas or education, regulation and association development.

The objective of the workshop is to develop action plans for the next years forstrengthening midwifery services and contribute to developing a strong midwifery
