Dear ICCA colleagues
Welcome to Incredible India, for what we are sure will be a great ICCA experience. This is not only
ICCA's first major event to be held in India, but also the first significant meeting to be organised here by
any of our industry's international associations. The timing for this pioneering congress is perfect:
India's meetings industry is clearly on the move, with our host venue the HICC - the country's first
genuinely world-class standard congress centre - having inspired India's public and private sectors to
start investing big-time in the infrastructure and professional skills that are necessary for the country to
really compete at the highest level.
This year's ICCA Congress could be regarded as the Indian meetings industry's "tipping point" - that
brief moment in time where the world is exposed to the massive potential of this vibrant destination;
where India's leaders grasp the far-reaching impact of having a successful international meetings
product; where hundreds of new business relationships are created that will positively shape India's
future development and success in the marketplace.
It's also a chance for ICCA members from Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East, and the rest
of Asia Pacific, to gain an understanding of what lies behind Indian business philosophy and successes.
You would have had to be living under a stone not to have heard the stories of how India is at the heart of
globalisation and the changes that our new knowledge economy is undergoing, but it's a very different
matter to experience these concepts first-hand, here in India, as you will all be doing.
We've got another great Congress programme lined up with stimulating sessions for all delegates, both
first-timers and old-timers. I know we're also going to be wonderfully looked after by our local hosts,
who will be showing the very best of modern and historic India. So get ready for a spiced-up,
intellectually stimulating, colourful and creative few days at Incredible ICCA!

Namaskar!
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all on behalf of my fellow industry colleagues from India to
the 49th ICCA Congress – Hyderabad India!!
Never was there a truer example of the saying - “change is constant”. India is in a state of flux and the
ever evolving scenario of the meetings industry bears testimony of the same.
ICCA 2010 epitomizes what the Indian meetings industry is all about. We are taking huge strides as far
as progress in the business is concerned – be it new centres, more professional conference organizers,
enhanced airline connectivity and improving all the components that make a up a great congress.
I encourage all my ICCA colleagues to embrace this opportunity and fully optimize the education
sessions and networking platforms to enhance their domain knowledge of doing business with India and
to foster relations that transcend the test of distance and time.
Do take moments in your schedule to also enjoy the age old traditions and the timeless culture that is
legendary of India - no colour looking more stunning than when seen from an Indian perspective. The
discovery of the subtleties of Indian cuisines is going to be a memory that you will cherish and will be a
strong talking point of your brief sojourn with our country’s heritage.
Athithi Devo Bhava – Guest is God!!
And we welcome you home to Hyderabad, India!!

Message from the Co-Chairperson, Indian LHC
Dear Friends,
India won the ICCA Congress Bid in 2007 in Thailand, and since then, we have been looking forward to
welcoming you to Hyderabad and India!
India -the land of contrasts - offers an amazing array of experiences that can fit from ancient to modern,
from opulence to basic, from culinary to craft. There is so much to experience and we did a lot of soul-
searching to come up with an eclectic selection of delights that await you.
India's diversity, democratic stability, and a strong educated working population create a win-win
situation for commercial activity. A key point to remember is that India's development is market-led,
and based on domestic resources. India, as one of the largest consumer markets globally, presents
exciting long-term opportunities for the conventions industry. The Congress is an ideal opportunity to
see the wealth of possibilities and interesting options that India presents.
ICCA Members can maximize their 'take-home' through their active participation. So come prepared to
be involved whole-heartedly! And the vibrant Indian ambience will add value to every interaction! At
ICCA 2010, the social networking, open and informal get-togethers, making friends with interesting
strangers – all will add spice to the Congress fare! The colors and flavors of India, food and culture, art
and dance forms will weave enchanting memories. And I am sure that you will want to come back for
more!
My colleagues and I from the local host committee will do everything to make your India visit
memorable. Lets meet in Hyderabad and enjoy ourselves!
Warm regards
Monimita Sarkar

Business Exchange
All Business Exchange (BE) participants have a (BE) symbol printed on the bottom left hand corner of
their badge. This will make it easier to identify other BE participants.
Business Exchange Coffee Area
A dedicated area will be available from Sunday 24 October to Wednesday 27 October throughout the day
in the HICC, Level 2 Foyer. The area can be used as a meeting place to exchange information.
Business Exchange Session
On Tuesday 26 October from 16.30-17.30 a Business Exchange Session will be held in The Ballroom
(Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre). Tent cards will be used to separate the room into different
sections and to indicate the rotation, size & sector of the meetings being discussed e.g.; 'BE World/
International < 500 Destination Marketing' or 'BE Europe > 500 Convention Centres & Hotels'. This is
done to give you and your Exchange partners a time and place to set up meetings with each other to talk
about your leads and to share your information.
Please note: you are responsible for making your own appointments. Business Exchange participants
are free to contact each other to exchange business throughout the Congress. You will not be provided
with appointments. You can pre-schedule your meetings using the SpotMe device, by requesting a
meeting via the Online Networking System, or by email.
Spotme and Meeting Point Business Exchange
The more high-tech approach is using the Spotme device which enables you to find, locate & contact
other (BE) delegates on your short list of people you wish to talk to.
The Spotme device will allow you to search for other Business Exchange participants. You can send
messages, set appointments when and wherever you want. The official meeting point will be the
Business Exchange Coffee Area – HICC, Level 2 Foyer. You can either retreat to the Business Exchange
Coffee Area to exchange information or elsewhere, the control lies in your hands!
If you have any questions regarding the Business Exchange, please contact Michel Retz.

glittering lacquered bangles, pearls, shiny fabric, traditional perfumes (ittar), antiques and other knick-
knacks. The climb up the Charminar is about fifty steps through a spiral staircase from where you can get
magnificent views of the Mecca Masjid, the Unani Hospital, the Osmania Hospital, High Court, the Purani
Haveli as well as the Falaknuma Palace in the distance. For the true flavor of old Hyderabadi culture, this
area of the city is a must visit.
You will need to wear your badge at all times.

Salar Jung Museum
Departure from HICC: 9:00
Drive to Salar Jung Museum: 09:00 to 10:00
Salar Jung Museum Tour: 10:00 to 12:30
One of the greatest collections of art pieces in the world is
housed in Hyderabad. This treasure trove is a fascinating
amalgam of antiquity and modernity and represents the three
Salarjungs' efforts to find the most exquisite pieces from
across the world. It is believed that during the colonial period
a lot of the art wealth of the country was shipped to the
metropolitan countries and the Salar Jungs are credited with bringing back some of it to enrich the
collection. Some of the most well known pieces that you can find in this museum is the Veiled Rebecca, a
masterpiece in marble carved by Giovanni Maria Benzoni and the Musical Clock made by Cook & Kelvy of
England that features a woodcutter who comes out every hour to strike the hour.
Hussain Sagar Lake
Drive to Hussain Sagar Lake: 13:30 to 14:00
Boat cruise: 14:00 to 15:30
Drive back to HICC: 15:30 to 16:30
The Hussain Sagar was built in 1562 to provide drinking water for its citizens. The construction of the
lake was supervised by Hussain Shah Wali, a much revered Sufi Saint of the sixteenth century. The Lake
stands as a jewel in the centre of the city and separates Hyderabad from its twin city Secunderabad. In
1992, as a testimony to the huge role that this region played in the spread of Buddhism in ancient India,
an eighteen metres high Buddha was installed in the centre on a huge lotus pedestal. A pleasant boat
ride from Lumbini Park takes you to the centre where the magnificence of the Buddha statue can be
experienced at close quarters.
Qutb Shahi Tombs – Half Day Tour
Departure from HICC: 9:00
Drive to Qutb Shahi Tombs: 9:00 to 10:00
Qutb Shahi Tombs: 10:00 to 11:00
Drive back to HICC: 11:00 to 12:00
The rulers of the Qutb Shahi Dynasty had a tradition of
constructing their tombs during their lifetime. The Emperors
tried to outdo their predecessor and the magnificence of the
architecture advanced over time. The tombs tower over the
landscape majestically. This architecture is a fascinating mix
of Persian and the local styles. Remnants of the blue tile work on some of these elegant structures give us
a peek into the richness which was a trademark of this dynasty.
If you have registered for the complimentary tour, a tour coupon will be provided in your registration kit.
The coupon will be collected by your tour guide before boarding the bus.
Hyderabad
It is said that Hyderabad is to cities, what the Taj Mahal is to buildings; a monument of love. Both were
built by romantic kings for their beloved wives. While one continues to remain the ultimate symbol of
love, Hyderabad continued to evolve overtime from a bustling trading town known for its diamonds and
pearls to a modern day city with international facilities for the IT sector and other industries. Today, the
several century old tombs, palaces and the towering Golkonda Fort share the space on the skyline of the
city with the IT parks and high rise buildings. On this tour, you will get a chance to witness a part of
Hyderabad's rich and glorious past through its impregnable fort, magnificent palaces and colourful
bazaars.
Golkonda Fort
Programme:
Departure from HICC

Golkonda Fort Tour
Drive back to HICC
The Golkonda Fort is one of the most impressive forts in the
country. The architecture includes some amazingly advanced
acoustics systems that were used for signalling approaching
enemy as well as for detecting conspiracies being hatched in
palace corners. The climb up the Fort would be sometimes steep, sometimes easy climb of about 360
steps and has excellent views of the Qutb Shahi tombs just outside the Fort area, the Charminar in the
distance and the rest of the city’s landscape.
• Saturday morning 09.00 - 12.30

This year's congress bags, kindly sponsored by GMR Hyderabad International
Airport Ltd., are being produced through the Varalakshmi Foundation and their
EMPOWER initiative.
EMPOWER – Enabling Marketing of Products of Women Entrepreneurs.
EMPOWER is a unique initiative of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation to enable marketing of hand-made
products made by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility
has generously provided two shop spaces to the Foundation to host this initiative at the airport.
The products sold by Empower are either made by SHGs organized through GMRVF at its various
locations or through SHGs engaged in production of hand-made products identified by the Society for
Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
When you buy products from EMPOWER, you are not only sure of the quality and genuineness of the
product, but also that it all goes back to add value to lives of hundreds of women who have spent hours to
make the product.
Currently the products made by GMRVF's own SHGs are those of jute, hand-made paper, kasuti
embroidery and dresses from khadi cloth.
Any excess / left over bags will be donated to the Nireekshana ACET (AIDS Care, Education & Training), a
community based project dedicated to the compassionate care and support of people living with
HIV/AIDS using a holistic approach.

You are not alone! There are at least another 200 people here at the ICCA Congress in Hyderabad in the same boat as
you. All First Time Attendees just like you!
A room full of strangers is not an uncommon setting for people in business. That room is also often a haven of golden
opportunities for business networking, initiating new contacts and seeding new relationships.
This is the aim of not only the First Time Attendees session on the Saturday but of the entire Congress, to enable you
to seize these golden opportunities and enable you to return to your homes with new knowledge, new solutions, new
business contacts and new friends!
Whilst every delegate has the chance to share ideas, form relationships and develop business, we want to give First
Time Attendees a little extra help in making sure their experience is a productive one. In a special dedicated session
for First Time Attendees we'll provide tips, tools and techniques to help you make sure the next 4 days are amongst
the most productive you've ever had at such an event. You will find that ICCA's culture is one where experiences,
skills, ideas and even business leads are passed on freely between members so, to benefit from this unique culture,
it is essential to be able to interact with your fellow professional right from the start. After this session you'll be fully
prepared, ready to have an exceptional, fulfilling and profitable congress experience.
The session will be moderated by Jon Bradshaw who, as well as working as Business Development Director for IMEX,
he runs his own meetings performance consultancy and Ksenija Polla, ICCA Head Office, Netherlands.
A select group of experienced ICCA members has volunteered to devote some of their time to provide advice and
guidance for First Time Attendees. They will certainly be present at the Introduction Programme on Saturday,
however you are also more than welcome to approach them during the entire Congress and even get in touch with
them after the event. Please do make use of their generosity and ask them any questions you might have.

In this session you will find out how to get the most out of the Business Exchange, in addition to finding out how the
Spotme device will be used to support the Exchange of information.
Delegates attend their sector meeting during this time to discuss internal business matters. The agendas for these
meetings have been set by the Chairpersons and volunteer working groups, to address some of the big issues which
concern members in each Sector.
2nd Floor 2.03-2.04
We do advise you to do your homework by making your own shortlists of people you would like to Exchange Business
with. For those of you who need more time to prepare, ICCA staff will be here to assist.
Please note that during the Sector education sessions, delegates are free to attend any Sector meeting whose agenda is relevant to their business needs, and are not required to only attend the meeting of the Sector to which their company belongs. Some agenda items are specific to the Sector members, but many items have a broader dimension that will be of interest to a wide range of members.

The company is working like clockwork… or so you would like to think. In the backend, especially for Meetings Management companies, there is a constant struggle to recruit and keep qualified, talented staff with a heart for our business and an eye for the future. Join this session to learn the latest trends derived from service industry sectors with a longer history than ours on the challenges service companies have to find the right staff, how to deal with staff turnover, great ways to motivate and keep staff, innovative ways of dealing with the competition and handling difficult choices such as hiring people from scratch and training them or hiring them ready to work. These are some of the issues to be addressed by HR guru Ravindran G among a wider spectrum of HR strategy-related burning questions related to our business. Join the session and the conversation for practical takeaways that will enable you to think strategically and make informed decisions about the way your organization handles HR issues armed with cutting-edge information that can be applied to our sector.

SE201: CVBs and PCOs: Stories and Best Practices from Pitching Together Effectively
Moderators
Ground Floor, G.01-G.03
Michael Priem, CEO, USDM.net, USA
If you're only selling and marketing your products, services and expertise to strangers you've missed the biggest trend of the new millennium. "Community" is the name of the game today, and the technological innovations of Web 2.0, social media and mobile apps are converging with traditional marketing and media to unlock the power of that community. Michael Priem will outline where marketing innovators are heading in this relationship-driven world, with particular emphasis on new ways of thinking about how to create new opportunities and forge profitable Business-to-Business relationships through ICCA and the other national and international business networks within which ICCA members are active. What communication approaches work best, how can you evaluate the strength and value of your relationships, how can you exploit the "freemium" business model, and how can you deal with all the complexity and speed of change in this business environment, are just some of the issues to be covered.
Ground Floor, G.04-G.06
Paul Ouimet, Executive Vice President, InterVISTAS Consulting Group, Canada
Sus Nygaard, Manager Conventions, Scandinavian Airlines, Denmark
The session will give valuable insights into the world of social media and explore how airlines can maximise the impact of different platforms to reach their customers and strengthen their brands. Even during the volcanic eruption in Iceland when call centers were overloaded with stranded customers trying to get on the next flight, Twitter and Facebook came to the rescue.
Ground Floor, Hall 1&2
Alec Gilbert, Chief Executive, Adelaide Convention Centre, Australia
Brian Horsburgh, Managing Director, Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, United Kingdom.
Eva Maria Garde, Sales & Marketing Manager, Granada Congress and Exhibition Centre, Spain

Firstly Eva Maria Garde of Granada Congress Centre will present a case study of finding a client through to successfully securing a new congress from a client first met at a workshop. Secondly Eric Chou from Metro Toronto Centre will take delegates through the process to attend an international workshop. Followed by a panel session where you can ask questions and suggest ways workshops can be developed to be more accessible to more members

The ICCA Destination Marketing and Meetings Management Sectors will once again hold a joint meeting at the ICCA
Congress in Hyderabad. The controversial subject of this year is “CVBs and PCOs: Stories and Best Practices from
Pitching Together Effectively”, is expected to be another hot issue the kind that causes “blood on the walls” effect. Join
us to hear and share stories of great cooperation (or horror!) with a Destination Marketing/Meetings Management
Sector organisation, as well as best practices used to secure business for your destination/organisation in the most
collaborative and win-win way.
Ground Floor, G.01-G.03
Bart Heinrichs, Managing Director, Parthen the meeting services company, The Netherlands
Join the Open Space meeting where you will be able to discuss your subject in a very productive and effective way with
your colleagues from around the world. It is an innovative method of meeting to share ideas, pool knowledge, and
develop plans for collaborative action. The meeting has no keynote speakers, no panel discussions. Just one
facilitator to explain the procedure and facilitate the sessions.

ICCA has recently developed a special scholarship programme for students of ICCA member Universities, which
entitles them to participate in the ICCA Congress. This is one of the first steps to improve transparency between the
meetings industry and the education institutions as well as to give the most distinguished students of our member
universities practical experience and access to the network of the leading professionals in the industry. This session is
aimed to make the next step in making clear what the meetings industry can offer the students and also to create a
high level position paper setting out what areas the industry would like to see academic institutions conduct more
research into. This years' scholarship students will set the scene by informing the audience what kind of projects they
are currently working on followed by interactive discussions with the audience.
Ground Floor, Hall 1&2
Kerrin MacPhie, Head of Sales, Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool, United Kingdom
James Rees, Director of Conference, ExCel London, United Kingdom
The meetings sector is awash with talk of social media as a powerful communications tool. This session takes a
practical look at the tools out there, the pros and cons of each and how you can leverage social media to build your
client community and engage with new audiences.
There will also be practical case studies on how ACC Liverpool and the Global Green Alliance have used social media to
build their profile.

The medical meetings sector continues to be the largest and most lucrative in the association meetings area, but it is
the constant subject of difficult challenges: requirements to deliver better Continuing Medical Education; legislative
pressure to not accept sponsorship from the pharmaceutical industry or device producers; changing rules about
where to hold meetings. All of these are of critical importance to many ICCA members. Hear top-level insiders share

Particularly relevant to Destination Marketing Organisations, but of interest to anyone responsible for dealing

Two of our speakers represent companies that are the leading consultants to airports and airlines around the world
about the effective development of their global and regional routes networks, and they are joined by an ICCA
colleague from Hyderabad's own fast-expanding, award-winning international airport. Destination Marketing
Organisations are increasingly getting involved in these strategic issues alongside their airports, so this session
offers a unique opportunity to understand how the economics and politics of network expansion really work, how
DMOs can support and influence the process, and what other issues influence the future success of your local airport.
RDG also organises the well-known series of Routes conferences, a great opportunity for destination marketing
professionals to interact with airline and airport decision-makers.

General interest; particularly interesting for those who don't yet know much about Apps.
Most meetings and trade show attendees are carrying web-enabled phones. These “micro-computers” are
increasingly being used for networking, lead exchange, electronic ticketing, way finding, audience polling, surveys,
pocket programs, pocket exhibit guides, course notes/literature collection and much more. New phone apps for
events are emerging daily. This program will cover the hottest new mobile trends for meetings and what is likely
coming in the next few years.
Learner objectives:
• Explore the wide range of emerging mobile applications for meetings and tradeshows.
• See how these tools can help meeting planners do their jobs more efficiently, greatly improve the attendee
experience and help reduce the blizzard of paper commonly found at events.
• Receive numerous links for free meeting-industry related phone applications that you can start using today.

Ajit Rangnekar, Dean of the Indian School of Business, India
General interest for anyone interested in India's important future role in the global economy.
By the year 2020 there will be over 500 million Indians between school entry level and age 35. Will they become a
powerful force for growth and progress both in India and in the wider world, or a cause of massive social upheaval?
How does education - basic, university, and lifelong - play a critical role in determining the answers to this
fundamental question? At this session you'll understand the barriers that India has had to overcome in building a
society-wide educational strategy, the continuing challenges - financial, political, social, institutional - that have to be
fought every day, and the opportunities and benefits that will flow throughout the globalised economy if India can
deliver the right educational answers for its citizens.

Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik, Chief Belief Officer, Future Group, India
Devdutt Pattanaik, one of the star speakers at the TED India conference, adviser to top multinational companies, and prolific
author and commentator, will change the way you think about the paths to business success. Arguing that whilst the 20th
century world was shaped by Western philosophical approaches and US- and European-centric multinational companies, the
21st century's business environment is exceptionally relevant to Eastern concepts and ways of thinking. Companies and
individuals who learn to embrace these sometimes radical and seemingly eccentric ideas will not only be better placed to do
business with companies and clients in China, India and beyond, but will transform their potential for success in all markets and
for all their staff and stakeholders. First-time visitors to India frequently find that their thinking is utterly transformed by what
they experience: this year's Copenhagen-Denmark Lecture hopes to achieve the same thing for ICCA delegates' business
philosophies!

Spotme
Co-sponsored by Seoul Tourism Organization, Mexico Tourism Board,
and Visitors Bureau / Busan Metropolitan City and the ICCA African Chapter
Busan Convention
The networking tool Spotme will be available again at this year's ICCA Congress & Exhibition. Spotme is a
handheld device which will be given to all delegates at the congress. The device will facilitate networking and
business exchanges as follows:
• Throughout the event delegates will be able to access information and photos of all attendees in the
people database, as well as the events they wish to exchange information about. Using customisable
search criteria, delegates can browse the list of participants.
• Expert Advice Appointments. All pre-set meetings will be loaded on to Spotme, giving each delegate
a personalised programme.
• The device has a radar function which displays the photos and details of all people standing up to 30
meters away. It provides a completely new way to discretely decide who to meet during coffee;
to personally identify the people sitting nearby at lunch; or simply to look up forgotten names.
• The device can be set to discretely alert users when a target contact comes within 10 meters. A pop-up
description and photo appears and the user can then decide whether to take the plunge and make that
crucial handshake.
• Messaging, much like text messaging on mobile phones, lets delegates handle the logistics of where
and when to meet. Each attendee can reach every other attendee to set up appointments and to confirm
meeting requests. For every message received, the sender's photo and details can be immediately
viewed at the simple press of a button. Appointments made and congress programme are all saved to
the device for easy access.
• Delegates can exchange electronic business cards in a simple point-and-shoot action. At the end of
the event, a personalised contact log, with the collected cards and photos, will be accessible for every
participant. The contacts can then be copied and pasted directly into any personal information
management software.
• After the event, delegates will also be able to see which continuing education credits they have collected,
in addition to being able to download speaker presentations from their personal Spotme webpage.
Spotme Coverage
Full Spotme service is available in all the meeting rooms and public areas of the HICC. In all other areas
delegates will be able to use the radar, spotting, note taking, business card exchange, browse the
agenda, people list, maps and binder. However reception of messages and updates will be delayed until
the participant returns to an area with coverage.
