What a few months it’s been for iCaSH!

From iCaSH Wins at the Trust staff awards, to being rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, to seeing Express Test up in lights at the Royal Society of Public Health awards, the hard work you all do for patients, day in and day out, is paying off and being widely recognised.

Outside of our doors, sexual health has also been in the media spotlight, with Gareth Thomas standing up for the importance of HIV testing and treatment, and sexual health awareness week emphasising the importance of accessible sexual health for those with disabilities.

With autumn now drawing in, the trustwide flu campaign and staff survey in full swing, it won’t be long before we start thinking about how we can continue our outstanding service into 2020.

This newsletter will continue to document our collective efforts to do so, and remember you can always leave feedback or future content suggestions via the survey here.

• Well done to Graham McKinnon and Caroline Cooper for appearing on The Naked Scientists podcast in September to discuss STIs, HIV, safer sex and more. Click here to listen back here.

• Thank you to Breydon clinic’s Dr Meena Gupta, who stepped up to be interviewed about HIV on BBC Norfolk at last minute, following Gareth Thomas’ documentary ‘HIV and me’. Check out her interview here.

• As of 24 October, the Bedfordshire contract no longer involves Brook as a partner. It will take time for all materials/ website references to be updated, so please let the communications team know if you see/use anything that needs changing. The website and document templates available on the intranet have been updated. School based outreach has moved to iCaSH and the health promotion, education and condom distribution has moved to THT.

• A reminder to all staff - please make sure you get your flu vaccination to protect yourselves, your colleagues and your patients! Find your next vaccine clinic on the intranet here or book a vaccinator to come to your next team meet-ing by emailing [email protected] .

• The annual NHS staff survey is now live! Search [email protected] in your inbox to find your login details. Take 10 minutes to confidentially share your perspective on how we can improve ur service, and you’ll also stand the chance of winning a £50 voucher of your choice. Find out more on the intranet here.

• A reminder that FSRH has recently reviewed the diploma curriculum, and has now confirmed its new approach which will launch in 2020. Find out more on their website here.

• The Trust’s pharmacy contract, which was awarded to Acorn Pharmacy Limited, is on track to go live 1 April 2020. Acorn will supply products and medicines across the Trust, including a specialist dispensing service for iCaSH’s HIV patients.

News in brief

Stories from across the service

As part of our latest CQC inspection results that saw CCS rated outstanding overall, iCaSH as a service was rated outstanding! Some highlights of their glowing report included:

• The service managed safety incidents well and learned lessons from them. Staff collected safety information and used it to

improve the service.• Staff worked well together for the benefit of patients, advised them on how to lead healthier lives, supported them to make decisions about their care, and had access to good information. • Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected

their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers.• The service planned care to meet the needs of local people, took account of patients’ individual needs, and made it easy

for people to give feedback. Leaders ran services well using reliable information systems and supported staff to develop their skills.

• Staff understood the service’s vision and values, and how to apply them in their work. • The service engaged well with patients and the community to plan and manage services and all staff were committed to

improving services continually. Read the full report here.

It’s official - iCaSH is outstanding!

On 17 October an iCaSH delegation attended the Royal Society of Public Health awards after being shortlisted for the ‘healthier lifestyles’ category for Express Test, earning a place in the top three for a Royal Society of Public Health award.

The awards recognise and celebrate a wide range of activities, policies and strategies that empower communities and individuals, improve the population’s health and address the wider social determinants of health.

Although we didn’t win, reaching the final three for this prestigious national award was a great recognition of Express Test and the efforts of iCaSH staff to help it work for patients.

Winners in our eyes!

Norman Lamb visit

Page 3

Back in August, Liberal Democrat MP for Norfolk North, visited the Oak Street clinic in Norwich.

He talked to staff and looked around our facilities, commenting afterwards that it was “great to meet you all!”

Our hub at Regent Road in Lowestoft reopened to patients on Thursday 3 October 2019. This follows a temporary closure during September to allow refurbishment work to take place.

Service user feedback, particularly around environment, was crucial to our plans including adding an extra clinic room, allowing us to see more patients. We have also: • increased privacy in the waiting area by creating a larger space • added an additional toilet by the clinic rooms and away from the waiting area, enhancing privacy and dignity for our service users.

Our investment future proofs our service in Lowestoft and will allowus to gradually increase the type of sexual and reproductive health services we deliver (e.g. consultant led clinics), in line with our other hubs, aided by our new lab.

This will mean that service users will be able stay closer to home for more complex procedures.

“Our aim is for people to be part of the design and delivery of our services.”

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Kilby and you may have seen my face on a leaflet in your iCaSH Conference goody bag earlier this year.

My role involves looking at how we can bring the patient voice into what we do. Co-working with others to co-produce our service is the aim of my game! Co-production is about “doing with” - sharing the decision making with the people who will be affected by the change.

What’s new for co-production in iCaSH?I recently sat in on Kings Brook (Bedfordshire) and Lime Tree (Cambridgeshire) sit and wait sessions to speak to patients about their experiences on the day. Following these sessions I’ll be exploring different ways of getting patients more involved in what we do. Thanks to the teams for answering my many questions on the day!

I’m working with a few team members across the Norfolk service to explore the possible role that volunteering has in sexual health services, particularly how a structured mentor programme might benefit our patients with HIV. There are many ways for us to involve our patients more in service improvement and change, but I will need your help!

If you have an idea that you feel co-production could help with, please get in touch by email on [email protected] or give me a call on 07773 185419. I look forward to updating you on co-production in the next newsletter.
