The Thermo Scientific iCAP 6000Series is relied upon for routineand demanding elemental analysisby our global customers in over40 countries. Its advanced opticaldesign assures unrivalledperformance and reliable analysis, sample after sample, whiletailored sample handling kits offerthe flexibility to cope with anysample type.

The sample introduction system used shouldbe optimized for the sample matrix, to ensureoptimum performance. Although it is possibleto use a single configuration for most typesof analysis, this may result in sub-optimalperformance for some sample types.

The iCAP 6000 Series has a number ofoptimized sample handling kits, which coverthe main application areas. All sample-handlingkits are plug and play, self-aligning systems, ensuring the maximum convenience for routinemaintenance. The semi-demountable torchmodule simply clips into place, whileautomatically making gas-tight connectionsand fully interlocking with the system. It ispossible to remove the center tube whilst thetorch is still in situ which dramatically reducesdown time during maintenance and cleaning.

A software controlled torch alignmentroutine completes the process.

The standard sample handling kit isfitted to all systems but optional extra kitsfor organics, volatile organics, HF-based andhigh solids solutions are available to fit Duoview systems.

The axial view mode is preferred forclean water analysis, such as drinkingwater, where it gives the best detectionlimits. However, in situations where highlevels of interference may be encountered, the radial mode can provide superiorperformance. For organic matrix samples, such as lubricating oils, it is likely that thededicated Radial view system is the preferredoption.

Different types of peristaltic pumptubing are also available for use withaqueous-based and organics-basedsolutions.

Whatever the sample, the iCAP 6000Series ICP offers enhanced analysis.

At the heart of the performance of any ICP instrument is its samplehandling system as it is responsible for delivering the sample in aprecise and accurate manner.

The Duo view system of the iCAP 6000 Series offers the optionof using either axial or radial view to provide the widest choice ofanalytical alternatives.

Product Specifications

Standard kitThe standard sample handling kit is foraqueous sample solutions containing relativelylow acid content (except for hydrofluoric acid)or up to 3 % m/v dissolved solids. The axialview system is often the preferred option forclean (i.e. drinking) water and otherenvironmental samples which require thebest detection limits. This kit is shipped asstandard with all instruments.

Organics kitThe organics sample handling kit isrecommended for sample solutionscontaining relatively non-volatile organicsolvents, such as xylene, toluene, whitespirit and kerosene. The Duo option is notrecommended for routine use in lubricatingoils analysis, especially of wear metals inused oil. A dedicated radial view ICP systemis likely to be better suited to this type ofanalysis.

High solids kitFor the purposes of ICP analysis, high solidsis defined as up to 20 % m/v solutions, especially samples such as sea waters, brines and ground waters, geochemicalsamples and fusion mixtures. Used inconjunction with the argon humidifier the kitallows extended analysis times without thedrift and blockage problems often associatedwith such high concentration solutions.

Volatile organics kitThe volatile organics sample handling kit isthe recommended option for more volatileorganic solvents, such as ketones, alcoholsand aldehydes. The use of a cooled spraychamber allows for the successfulintroduction and analyses of these sampletypes. These are often found inpetrochemical analysis, both for by-productssuch as plastics and for petrol itself. TheIsoMist temperature programmable spraychamber option provides the optimumconfiguration for Duo configuration instrumentsby reducing the plasma solvent load.

HF resistant kitThe HF Resistant Sample Handling Kit is forsample solutions containing un-complexedhydrofluoric acid. These are typically obtainedduring the analysis of geological samples, soils, sediments, ceramics, bricks andcement, together with some types of hightemperature alloys.

Components in contact with the solutions(the spray chamber and the torch centre tube)are made from resistant fluoro-polymer andalumina ceramic materials, respectively.
