IBVCA General Guidelines 2016 Season History It all started with Mel Young and his dream of starting something special for the boys. The people who knew and loved Mel realized that once the goal took hold of his head and heart, the dream of boys volleyball was going to come true. Columbus North Columbus East Regions Membership Fees IBVCA Membership Fee is $50 Must be received by February 28, 2016 Good from Feb. 29 th, 2016 Feb. 28, 2017 Paid members may vote on all membership business, one vote per school and must be in good standing as a member of the IBVCA. To enter the State Tournament, one person from the representing school must be a paid member Membership Form Coaches Background Checks All coaches (Varsity, JV, Freshman, Assistant) must submit proof they have received a background check to the President prior to the official start of the IBVCA season. New Teams May choose to participate as a JV or Varsity team during their first year as a program. May choose to change through same season. Athletes must be academically eligible to compete during IBVCA season Same standard as what is used for IHSAA sports. New Teams Allowed to work with your boys year round. Can practice on Sundays if cannot get gym space during the week, but must not practice more than 6 consecutive days without a day off. No club activity shall be permissible during IVBCA season. USAV club season may resume the day after the IBVCA State Tournament. Costs Membership Fee Tournament Costs Officials (normally covered by gate fees) Travel Fees (if school does not cover them) Insurance Fees (if school does not cover them) Player Fees To cover uniforms, facility use, etc. Fundraising Opportunities Starting the Season First official date of the IBVCA season is February 29 th, Must have 10 practices in before you may start competing for IBVCA matches. You can officially start counting practices on Feb. 29 th. Scrimmages are allowed before 10 practices are in but they cannot count toward your record or as IBVCA official matches. May serve useful for new teams gaining experience. Scheduling Matches A team cannot play more than 4 matches in one day or 8 matches in one week. Varsity must play Varsity only, JV and Freshmen teams may intermix accordingly. JV teams cannot play in Varsity Tournaments. Varsity Matches: 3/5 25 no cap, 15 no cap, no change of side. Tournaments: 2/3 25 no cap, 15 no cap. JV & Freshmen: 2/3 cap at 25, cap at 15. Complete schedule and upload on MaxPreps by February 29 th. Tournaments Need more teams to host beginner team tournaments. Tournament Fees: Varsity Tournament: $100 max JV Tournament: $75 max Quad: 3/5 $90; 2/3 $75 Tri: 3/5 $60; 2/3 $50 Accommodating official costs Officials Teams have the freedom to hire their own officials for all home matches. Varsity must have an IHSAA up and down official. JV and Freshmen same if possible. Must charge minimum of $30 for best 3/5 and $25 for best 2/3. Chad Sievers is available to hire officials for you for a $50 fee. Please contact him before your season begins with your schedule for him to assign for you. Post Season Qualifications A coach or representative from each school must be an IBVCA member. Each team must verify that they competed in 8 spring season matches against IBVCA teams eligible for the State Tournament prior to the State entry deadline. (May 1 st, 2016) Players must be full time students at the high school they are representing. No out of district players. Players must be eligible under IHSAA eligibility and the schools athletic code of conduct policies. Must obtain Principals signature. Regionals Regional Finals must be played Saturday, May 14 th 8 Regional Sites Top Seed will host If they cannot host, next in line will be the next highest seed, and so forth. All Regional teams must be in agreement to host Semi-Final matches on a different date or location. State Tournament draw will be Sunday, May 1 st All teams will be seeded exclusively using the RPI RPI Determines the State Tournament seeding. Takes into consideration only matches against IBVCA teams qualifying for the State Tournament. RPI = (WP*0.25)+(OWP*0.50)+(OOWP*0.25) WP Winning Percentage OWP Opponents Winning Percentage OOWP Opp. Opponent Winning Percentage RPI State Tournament Format Hosted by Southport High School Friday, May 20 th, 2016 Quarter Final Matches #1 v. #8 & #2 v. #7Approx. 6:00pm #3 v. #6 & #4 v. #5Approx. 8:00pm Saturday, May 21 st, 2016 Semi-Final Matches11:00am All-State Match1:00pm Academic & Team Awards3:00pm Championship Match3:30pm State Tournament Awards State Champion & Runner-Up Medals Semi-Finalist Medals All-Tournament Team & MVP Academic All-State All-State Selections Mel Young Camp Award Nominations Due by May 1 st (website) All-State Match One All-State match open to all players (9-12) 3 sets will be played Each school will get one nomination with state finalists getting more according to their advancement (same as current method) Coaches of the teams losing in Quarter-Finals will coach All-State teams. All-State will practice Saturday morning during Semi-Final matches, have lunch, then play at 1pm Out of District Players Must be identified on the team roster and acquire Board confirmation prior to their participation. Can participate a maximum of 2 years Must apply to school in order of proximity No school is required to accept player Schools using player on Varsity at any point is barred from the State Tournament. Can play in the All-State Match Reporting Scores Winner of an individual match must upload the score to MaxPreps (within 18 hours). Tournament and Quad HOSTS must submit scores of the entire tournament to Matthew BUT teams also need to update their MaxPreps. Matthew Nance: Ex) Chesterton def. Roncalli (25-17, 25-13, 25-27, 18-25, 15-11) Coaches Poll The Coaches Poll is conducted to persuade teams to look at scores and produce a weekly ranking of the top 10 teams established by the membership. This is used primarily for publicity measures for the organization as a whole and local media. Must be a IBVCA member to vote. Must submit your poll ( ) by 10:00pm Monday to Carlos Capo Polls will be published on Tuesday at 12:00pm on the website.
