Use a coin or flathead screwdriver to rotatethe battery locking screw 90 degreesclockwise.

Lift the battery out of the computer.

Pull the keyboard release tabs toward youand lift up on the keyboard until it popsfree.

If the keyboard does not come free, use asmall flathead screwdriver to turn thekeyboard locking screw 180 degrees ineither direction and try again.

Flip the keyboard over, away from thescreen, and rest it face-down on thetrackpad area.

If the computer has an AirPort cardinstalled, follow the next three steps toremove it.

Push the wire clasp away from the AirPortcard and toward the display, then rotate upto free it from the RAM shield.

Grasp the clear plastic tab on the AirPortcard and pull toward the display.



Hold the Airport card in one hand and useyour other hand to remove the antennacable.

Remove the four silver Phillips screws thatsecure the RAM shield.

Grasp the metal bracket on top of the RAMshield and pull upward to remove theshield.



Pull the keyboard cable up from the logicboard, holding the cable as close to theconnector as possible.

Make sure that you reconnect the keyboardcable before replacing the RAM shield.

Use a pin (or anything you like) to removethe three rubber feet from the lower case.

Remove the three newly-revealed Phillipsscrews.

Use a spudger or small flathead screwdriverto pry up the three metal rings that housedthe rubber bumpers.



Remove the three hex screws using a T8Torx screwdriver.

The shorter screw is in the center of thecomputer.

Remove the two Phillips screws on eitherside of the battery contacts.

Breathe deeply. Trying times are ahead, butwe promise the lower case does come off.

Push the thin rims of the lower casesurrounding the battery compartment in,bending them past the tabs, and then lift upto free that corner of the lower case.



There is a slot on the wall of the batterycompartment that locks the lower case inplace. Use a small flathead screwdriver topry out the slot's lower rim and pull up onthe lower case to free the slot from thetabs holding it.

Run a spudger along the seam between thelower case and upper case on the front ofthe computer to free the tabs locking thelower case. Pull up on the lower case andcontinue to use the spudger as necessaryuntil you hear three distinct clicks.

Continue to run the spudger around thefront, right corner. There are two tabs onthe port side of the computer, one near thefront corner and one near the sound-outport.



There are three tabs over the optical drivethat must be released before the lower casecan come off. Slide the spudger into thelower case above the optical drive and runit toward the back of the computer until youhear three distinct clicks.

Once the front and sides of the lower caseare free, turn the computer so that theback is facing you and pull the lower caseup and toward you until the back tabs popfree (it may be helpful to jiggle the case upand down).

Remove the small greasy springs with whiteplastic caps from either side of the batterycontacts.

Remove the 4 Phillips screws from thebottom shield.

The two longer screws are along thecomputer's edge, near the ports.

Lift the bottom shield off.

Remove the two Phillips screws securing theDC-In board.

Disconnect the DC-In cable from the logicboard.

Deroute the cable from around the opticaldrive, removing tape as necessary, andangle the DC-In board out of itscompartment.

Remove the two Phillips screws from thebattery compartment.

We recommend placing the computer on asoft cloth from this point on to preventdamaging the logic board.

Turn over the computer and open it.

Pry up the magnet covering a Phillips screwnear the middle of the computer.

Remove the following 7 screws from theedges of the keyboard area.

Three 2 mm Phillips along the rightedge.One 4.5 mm Phillips underneath wherethe magnet was.One 6 mm Phillips with a small head inthe lower left corner.Two 6 mm Phillips with large heads, onein the upper left corner and one in themiddle



Before you can yank the upper case off, youmust disconnect the trackpad connector, theblue and white power cable, and speakercable as described in the next steps.

Lift the upper case from the right side anduse a spudger or your finger to disconnectthe trackpad connector hidden beneath thewhite plastic tab. Due to model variatonsyour trackpad connector may be differentfrom the one pictured.

Carefully lift the upper case about half of aninch and move it so that you can access thepower and speaker cables.

If the upper case is sticking, it may benecessary to free the tabs holding the uppercase to the metal framework along theouter edge of the battery compartment.

The connectors at the ends of the cables areattached very firmly to the sockets on thelogic board. Pulling directly on the cable willeither separate the cable from its connectoror the socket from the logic board.

Lift the upper case enough to disconnectthe blue and white power cable from thelogic board. Using your fingernails or adental pick, carefully pry the connector fromits socket. Make sure you're pulling only onthe connector and not on the socket.



Lift the upper case off completely anddisconnect the multicolored speaker cablefrom the logic board. As before, make sureyou're pulling only on the connector and noton the socket.

Remove the following 15 screws:

Fourteen 3 mm Phillips.One 5.5 mm Phillips in the upper leftcorner.

Lift the top shield up from the right side,minding the upper left corner, which maycatch on the metal framework.

Lift the metal restraining bracket from thehard drive and place it aside.

Turn the computer over and disconnect theorange hard drive cable, removing tape asnecessary.

Remove the two Phillips screws securing thehard drive to the metal framework.

Lift the hard drive up, carefully guiding thecable through the slot in the lower case.

Remove the hard drive bracket from the leftside of the hard drive.

Remove the two black T8 Torx screws fromeither side of the hard drive (four screwstotal).

Use the transparent orange loop todisconnect the large orange ribbon cablefrom the hard drive.

This is a bit tricky. Try rocking the cablegently from side to side while applying evenpressure. If you bend the pins, do your bestto straighten them, using the hard drivecable as a guide.
