These release notes are for the IBM XIV Multi-System Manager version 1.3.

Supported microcode releasesThis version supports all IBM® XIV® releases.

The Multi-System Manager reduces operational complexity and enhances capacityplanning through integrated management for large and multi-site XIVdeployments. The Management Tools:v Shifts the paradigm to an integrated management of XIV Systems across the

enterprisev Provides powerful health monitoring by integrating events and alerts across the

managed XIV Systemsv Extends management scalability to smartphones and tablets

The Multi-System Manager is also known as IBM Hyper-Scale Manager.

Compatibilityv XIV GUI 4.2 is compatible with Multi-System Manager 1.3

What's new in Multi-System Manager version 1.3IBM XIV Multi-System Manager version 1.3 features the following:v The Multi-System Manager can be upgraded from the GUI.

Upgrade from the GUIThe Multi-System Manager can be upgraded from the GUI.

Manager configurationIn order to control The Multi-System Manager configuration from the GUI,go to Systems > Manager Configuration. There you can change theManger access code and the System Machine Account (see related chapterson the user guide, available on the IBM XIV Information Centerhttp://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ibmxiv/r2/index.jsp).

Lightweight, fast installationMinimal number of steps from the Installer, rest of the steps from the GUI.A detailed description of the installation process can be found on the userguide.

Multi-System Manager specificationsThe Multi-System Manager deployment is running as a Virtual Appliance above anESX server (VMWare Hypervisor only). This deployment comes with 4GB memoryand dual core vCPU by default.

Right after its deployment, revise the specifications depending on the amount ofXIV systems you will manage using the Multi-System Manager:

Up to 60 systemsMemory - 4 GB

vCPU - Dual core

61-100 systemsMemory - 6 GB

vCPU - Quad core

101-120 systemsMemory - 6 GB

vCPU - Six core

121-144 systemsMemory - 8GB

vCPU - Six core

Other specificationsv An ESX (VMware) Server that will host the Multi-System Manager, versions: 4,

i4, 4.1, i4.1, i5v VM disk size - 76 GBv Ports that need to be opened:

– Outbound/Inbound: RMI - 1199-1209– Inbound only: SSH/SCP - 22– Outbound only: SMTP - 25

- Communication with XIV systems - 7778v Allowed latency between the Multi-System Manager and the XIV systems it

Limitations

MSM-251204The server hostname of the VM where the Multi-System Manager runs should notinclude dots.

Fixed issues

MSM-247504To monitor XIV systems that use LDAP for authentication, non-UPN accounts mustbe used.

Known issues

MSM-261156NTP does not sync time after the date is changed.

Manually changing the date from the root menu - for NTP configuredMulti-System Manager - the date is no longer synchronized with the NTP server.

WorkaroundFrom the root menu, click 1 for Server Configuration Options, then click2 for NTP & Regional Settings. Disable NTP and then Enable it.

MSM-256723After upgrading Multi-System Manager, a logged-in vSphere client (using 'root'user) does not see the updated menu and version.

WorkaroundSelect option 16 (Exit) in the root menu to logoff. When you log in again,the Multi-System Manager main menu and version are updated correctly.

MSM-261090The Multi-System Manager can't monitor a pre-11.2.0 XIV system that is configuredwith LDAP, with an xiv_msms user that is configured both internally and in theLDAP.

Workaround

1. Disable LDAP on the specific XIV system.2. Delete the xiv_msms user which is defined internally.3. Re-enable LDAP.
