Microsoft launched their new desktop operating system in August : Windows 10

• GUI: Windows 10 includes a new Web-Browser called “Edge”, while still offering “Internet Explorer”

– The V7000 Unified GUI should be used with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.


– The V7000 Unified GUI can be opened from within Edge by using the “Open with Internet Explorer” “More Actions” function

– Edge will be supported in a future PTF

• SMB: Official support for Windows 10 as SMB client and the corresponding Server as Active-Directory will be in a future PTF

• Allows each file module Fibre Channel port to be connected to control enclosure port 1 or 2 via a

Fibre Channel switch

• The switches must be zoned so that each file module port can only communicate with a single

control enclosure port (i.e. looks like direct connect to the file module)

• When all 4 node canister FC ports are connected to the FC SAN, and zoned appropriately, then


ports 3 and 4 can be dedicated to volume replication traffic

• The control enclosure ports can still communicate with other control enclosure ports, FC host ports

and disk controller ports

• There is no mechanism for specifying the use of FC ports in the Storwize V7000 software, it is

achieved through fabric configuration


Some of the File Module components are “end of life”:

• CPU – current 4-core CPU will be replaced with equivalent later 4-core CPU :

• EOL : Xeon E5-2609 4C 2.4GHz 10MB 1066MHz 80W “Sandy Bridge”

• Replacement : Intel Xeon E5-2609 v2 4C 2.5GHz 10MB Cache 1333MHz 80W “Ivy Bridge”

• Memory – the current memory modules will be replaced with modules that are supported with the new CPU.

• Since previously used 2 GB modules no longer ship, the new 4 GB modules will push overall memory to 80 GB (4x 16 GB + 4x 4 GB)

Who is CatalogicCatalogic is a well funded, leading company in the Copy Data Management software space Catalogic is a strategic ecosystem partner for IBM’s Software-Defined Storage portfolio

Solution

IDC did a recent study that Copy Data was creating a $51B overspend in the enterprise due to the lack of storage management tools and automation. Clients are looking to dramatically leverage automation and self-service in their storage environments to reduce cost and gain additional agility.

ECX is a software-only Copy Data Management platform that provides Automation and Orchestration, Lifecycle Management, Self-service Capabilities and Analytics. The agentless solution deploys in under 15 minutes and works with existing storage “In-Place” (there is no need


to move or migrate data)

How does this fit with IBM?

Catalogic is a great example of the value of a Software Defined architecture like IBM’s. Catalogic simply integrates with IBM’s APIs and drives very unique use cases for IBM clients

Catalogic helps IBM protect its storage base by adding powerful use cases, helps grow IBM’s foot print by providing ways to pull more data onto IBM platforms, and provides use cases to acquire new clients
