Market & Client InsightsWhat are clients really doing?
• Enterprise clients are leveraging on premise / private cloud now.
• New business clients (General Business and “startups”) are starting with public clouds.
• Many clients are looking to become “cloud service providers” internally and/or externally.
Market & Client InsightsWhat are the challenges?
1. The cloud delivery model has ripple effects into many other areas
2. The support and governance models are unclear.
3. Integration into an existing environment is becoming very challenging, due to many vendors and a lack of common ‘management’ platform.
4. Security is still a concern, however there are compensating controls which can be leveraged
5. Application development processes and tools will need to be addressed to support ‘shared service creation’.
Market & Client InsightsWhat about workloads?
1. When and “If” to migrate a workload to cloud is important
2. Workload characteristics will drive the rate and degree of standardization of IT and business services.
3. Like any transformation effort, cloud should be viewed as a phased transition.
Typical Problems We Think Cloud Will Solve
• Resources• Long term investments• IT Staff• Business value• IT Service adoption• Go to market
The challenges
• Security• Integration• Business model change• Workload readiness• IT Management and
provisioning control
The steps to being capable to deliver Cloud Services
STANDARDIZE / CONSOLIDATE operations via reference architecture, standard implementation and management
AUTOMATE processes for improved quality and responsiveness
Leverage SHARED/PRIVATE infrastructure based on defined workload profiles
DYNAMIC delivery of capacity based on policy-based workload automation

Most Important Questions
• Time & Goals
• Value
• Measure
The 5 Elements of Cloud Success
1. Determine if cloud is a “good fit” for the your skills, organization, and goals
2. Understand the impacts of organization, culture and process
3. Identify key areas of automation
4. Define technology and process standards
5. Identify targeted workloads and migration considerations

Image Management• Design, build and manage images for
cloud services
Security• Design for Multi-Tenancy• Protect assets through Isolation, integrity, image- risk and
compliance management
Usage Metering and Accounting• Flexible support of delivery models
Virtualized Resource Management• Deploy cloud services on virtualized resources• Manage virtual resources
Service Automation Management• Interpret and Execute Build and Management Plans• Orchestrate Management Componentry
7. System Context
The system context should define the boundary of the Cloud,
and the integrations with OSS / BSS systems
1. Business Drivers
Describe the key business drivers for the project, the KPIs or CSFs, & how
they align with Cloud computing.
2. Business Process
Understanding the existing “As-Is” process, and how this must
change in order to meet the business drivers.
3. Current IT Environment
Understand the current environment where the Cloud will be deployed,
what systems, technology, capacity, constraints.
5. Use Cases & Actors
What are the functional requirements expected from the Cloud and who
are the key actors. Expressed as Use Cases.
4. Candidate Cloud Services
12-step process to defining the services and the attributes of the
candidate Cloud services.
6. Non-Functional Requirements
NFRs should be defined to cover the volumes, capacity, scale, availability, security, operational and monitoring
aspects of the Cloud solution.
11. Roadmap
Define the overall timeline, phases, and key milestones that will shape
the plan and overall delivery.
10. Operational Model
Design and consider the components of the solution both
at a physical and logical level, and their interaction.
8. Architecture Overview
Architecture overview diagram should define the high level
components, their placement and topology, using CCRA.
12. Scope
Define the boundaries of the project, inclusions, exclusions,
dependencies, and align phases with milestones in the roadmap.
9. Architecture Decisions
Clearly documented decisions on key architectural points including the
rationale for the decision.

Our own use of cloud extends across the entire IBM organization and has transformed the IBM business on multiple levels
• 109,000 IBM employees use Blue Insight, the world’s largest business analytics private cloud.
• 1,800 IBM marketers across 6 continents utilize IBM cloud-based Marketing Operations daily.
• 6,000 IBM users of Blueworks Live to improve internal business processes
• 200 million minutes of IBM web conferencing with IBM SmartCloud Meetings.
• Avoiding over $20M in expenses over 5 years with our private analytics cloud
• 1,200 users in IBM China development labs, plus IBM Call Center teams in the United States and India, have migrated to a desktop cloud environment
