the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services. This is your

opportunity to get your simple tax forms processed professionally for

FREE. The service is first come-first served basis (no appointments), and will be

located at the Main Library. Starting February 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00

p.m., and continuing every Wednesday and Saturday after that until April

11th. Remember to bring all necessary documents needed to complete

your tax forms. (Social security card, driver’s license, W-2 Form, etc.)

of valentine craft for Valentine’s Day.

Come to the Main Library to construct

hearts from nails, wire and many other

hardware items. The Iberia Parish

Library wants all teens 12-17 to

participate in our Hardware Hearts

workshop on Thursday, February 2

starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Main

Library. You don’t need to bring

anything but your friends and your

savvy craftsmanship. This is not a craft

for the faint hearted. To register, please

Beyond class. Here, you will learn the do’s and don’ts of resumes, and

also get professional insight on how to display and create a resume using

Toddler time is back at the Main Library! Make sure to come to the

first session of the new year on Wednesday, February 8 starting at

10:30 a.m. For those who are not familiar with this program, it is for children ages 24-36 months (2 years

along to songs. This program is absolutely free and all you need to

Calling all high school students and individuals who want to further their

education and aspire to one day join the University of Louisiana at

Lafayette. Preparing for college can seem like a challenge. With all the

paperwork, preparations, and financial aid questions, it sometimes becomes

overwhelming. Make sure to attend this beneficial and informative

workshop, as the library hosts one of UL’s recruiters to come and speak with

students and parents about the steps they need to take to become a Ragin’

Cajun. It is never too early to find out what you need to do to make that

smooth transition from high school to college. The recruiter will answer

questions about different types of forms, financial aid questions (where to

apply and important deadlines), and student life on campus. It is time to get

your life started, and by making the life changing decision,

the Iberia Parish Library is helping you with the first step!

Tracing the Themes of Cajun and Creole Music Back to France

Wednesday, Feb. 29 7:00 p.m. Main Library

Have you ever wondered where our Cajun music originated from? We

all know that this area is known for Zydeco, Cajun and washboard

melodies. Make sure to attend this heritage-filled experience as we

explore the origins of traditional songs of the area and their ties to

Canada and France. Sharing his exciting research is Dr. Barry Ancelet,

from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has prepared a playlist

along with an informative lecture about the history and ties our music

has. Enjoy tunes recorded here in New Iberia by John and Alan Lomax

in 1934. This is something you will not want to miss. Make sure to
