Conference sell-outsThe IBA places its conference in venues of a suitable size for the event; however there are times when our conferences may sell out. Grouped into two divisions – the Legal Practice Division and the Public and Professional Interest Division – the IBA covers all practice areas and professional interests, providing members with access to leading experts and up-to-date information. Through the various committees of the divisions, the IBA enables an interchange of information and views among its members as to laws, practices and professional responsibilities relating to the practice of business law around the globe. IBA War Crimes Committee overviewThe War Crimes Committee is the only IBA committee of its kind, focused specifically on international criminal law. Over the past 15 years there has been tremendous growth and development in this field. The committee provides a forum for the very diverse group of practitioners and scholars involved in this area of law.

The committee endeavours to provide IBA members with comprehensive and reliable information and resources on international criminal law. It also provides lawyers, international agencies and tribunals with an unparalleled and easily accessible network of contacts and, in turn, is directly involved with the IBA’s ongoing programme in support of international, ad hoc and domestic war crimes tribunals.

The committee works alongside the IBA Human Rights Institute to promote justice around the world, and uphold the principle of accountability.

The War Crimes Committee has the following statement of aims:• To be the pre-eminent professional organisation for lawyers

working in the area of international criminal law• To provide a first class and easily accessed network of contacts

in this field of law• To provide a reliable and comprehensive source of information

and resources on international criminal law • To work together with the IBA Human Rights Institute to

promote the rule of law around the world, and in particular to encourage adherence to the principles of international criminal law

• To inspire and encourage young lawyers in the field of international criminal law

IBA Hague Office for International Criminal Justice overviewThe IBA Hague Office for International Criminal Justice was launched in 2005 to monitor fair trial issues at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The IBA’s monitoring work includes thematic legal analysis of the ICC’s pre-trial and trial proceedings, and ad hoc evaluations of legal, administrative and institutional issues which could potentially affect the rights of defendants, the impartiality of proceedings and the development of international justice. Programme information is disseminated through regular monitoring reports, online publications, expert discussions and other events.

Based at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the IBA Hague Office consults and interacts with key legal professionals, including court officials, academics and legal researchers, non-governmental organisations, staff of the ad hoc tribunals, individual defence counsel and diplomatic representatives. The Programme also acts as the interface between the Court and the global legal community by monitoring emerging issues of particular relevance to lawyers and collaborating with key partners on specific activities, such as the IBA/ICC List Counsel Campaign, to increase engagement of the legal community on ICC issues.
