IB Diploma Programme
e CoreExtended Essay: Students write an independently researched 4,000- word paper on a research question of their choice.
Creativity, Activity, Service: Students enhance their personal development through experiential learning in these three areas. Students are expected to reect on their growth in these three areas toward the end of their senior year.
Theory of Knowledge: A course taken during a student’s junior and senior years in which students consider the role of knowledge in their own culture, the culture of others, and the wider world. This is an interdisciplinary course that requires students to explore links among their IB courses.
Curriculum FrameworkIB Diploma Programme students must choose one subject from each of ve groups (1 to 5), ensuring breadth of knowledge and understanding in their best language, additional language(s), the social sciences, the experimental sciences and mathematics. Student may choose either an arts subject from group 6, or a second subject from groups 1 to 5.
At least three and not more than four subjects are taken at higher level (typically 2 years), while the other subjects are taken at standard level (typically 1 year).
In addition to disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, the Diploma Programme features three core elements that broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills. at Del Mar High School*
