Counselors recently visited 9th grade classrooms to introduce“Naviance/Family Connection” to our freshmen as this will bethe third year the IA is using this program. Naviance is a web- based resource that provides support and guidance to studentsin grades 9-12, families and school staff to promote studentachievement and postsecondary success. All freshmen haveregistered and logged into Naviance, and parents will receive aletter with separate login information for parent access to
Naviance.
Naviance is made up of three main components:
College Planning: Students and parents are providedwith valuable insight into the college admissions pro-
cess with scattergrams, scholarship information and application statistics. Students can take an inventorythat generates a list of potential colleges that may be of interest. This is also where students sign up for
IA college visits.
Career Planning: Naviance gives students a comprehensive view of career clusters and recommended
plans of study for students to prepare for those careers.
Success Planning (About Me): This component contains information about the student. Students canview their assessment and survey results, saved colleges and career interests, journal entries, goals, andtasks. Students can also build a resume page.
The next Coffee with the Counselor will be on October 7 at 7:45am. The focus of October's Coffee will be on
the senior year. We will talk about college applications, Naviance and stress and support throughout the year.
Seniors: Jostens will be returning on September 24 during lunches to collectthe cap and gown order forms.

For the 2015-2016 school year, Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences will be held on October 28 and 29,2015. All conferences will be required to be scheduled through Sign-Up Genius. A conference session will befive (5) minutes in length. If a longer conference is necessary, please contact the teacher.
Through the Sign-Up Genius online system, conferences can be scheduled within a one hour block of time. Forexample, the 6:00 to 7:00 time slot is best for a family on Wednesday evening, then the family will select thattime slot, then the student’s teachers in this time slot. The goal is for families to see four or more teachers in aone hour period. This scheduling system respects your time while providing as much opportunity as possible tosee your student’s teachers.
What you can do now: Though not a requirement to use the system, creating an account with Sign-Up Genius prior to October 1 will
facilitate a faster and more seamless sign up experience. You can create an account here: http://www.signupgenius.com/ It would be most helpful if the email address you use for Sign Up Genius is thesame as the School Messenger and MiStar email address or the one on file for your student.
Be sure that you have registered with Troy School Messenger system and are receiving the weekly
messages, such as this newsletter
Log on to the MiStar system to check that the email listed for each parent/guardian is correct.
To provide equal access to all, the Sign-Up Genius system will open on Thursday, October 1 at 9:30 p.m. Thesystem will remain open until Monday, October 26 at noon. You will receive notification and a link to accessSign-Up Genius through the email associated with your MiStar account on that evening.
The conference blocks will be as follows:
Wednesday, October 28 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 29 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
