"There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it [he] found none." We live in a results-driven society. It can be easy to put pressure on ourselves to succeed. If we're not keeping up with the perceived "good life" of those around us, we feel anxious and disappointed. Some of the Gospel stories about fruitfulness can seem
to play out in this fashion. "For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down." The message seems to be clear. Abide in God and bear fruit! Stand apart from God and be barren. But what happens when we're trying, but the growth we wanted doesn't seem to be coming our way? What if it feels like life just isn't bearing fruit?
This Sunday, Jesus gives us a sign of hope. "[The gardener] said to him in reply, 'Sir, leave it for this year also - it may bear fruit in the future." How quick we can be to judge! Perhaps you started out Lent with high hopes and big ideas for getting closer to God. Maybe things haven't gone exactly like you thought. It can be easy to lose patience with our failures or slow growth. We shouldn't be too quick to assume that God has given up on us. He hasn't.
The same ideas apply to those around us. Perhaps we're the planter of the fig tree. We expect a certain amount of growth from someone in our life, and they just aren't measuring up. Let today's Gospel be a gentle nudge for mercy. As Lent continues to unfold, be patient with yourself and those around you. Wait for God to provide the growth.

Will Our Faith Have Young People? Pope Francis has called the entire church to reflect on young adults, faith and vocational discernment culminating in the Bishop’s Synod on Youth at the Vatican in October this year. This Mission responds to the Holy Father’s call by asking will our faith have young people. This mission is for all of us who have children and grandchildren, and all of us who want our young people to know the faith, hope and love of Christ and the Church that has sustained us.
Monday: Listening Before We Speak We will look at a large international survey of young Catholics 15-25 years of age asking them what they are most looking for amongst us, and what are the major obstacles to them joining and
participating in the life of the Church. How can the Church respond to these challenges?
Tuesday: Context is Everything Young people are now faced with an array of options and choices most of them explored through film, television, the internet and social media. How well do we know the media culture that is profoundly forming the values of our young people (and us) and how does our Catholic tradition help us respond to it? How do we all download the best and leave the rest?
Wednesday: Glimpsing Eternity Given that the media culture is now the primary vehicle for how many young Catholics encounter Otherness through big stories, contemplate other worlds, other realities, other
forms of being, spirits, demons and angels, think about metaphysics and meta-ethics. How can the Church harness the best of the media world in a way that deepens faith, for us and children, affirms the best of our values, and aids prayer?
Who is Fr. Richard? Fr. Richard Leonard is a Jesuit priest. He has degrees in arts and education, as well as a Master’s degree in theology.
Fr. Richard did graduate studies at the London Film School and has a PhD from the University of Melbourne. He directs the Australian Catholic Office for Film & Broadcasting, is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian
Catholic University and has been a visiting scholar within the School of Theatre, Film & Television at UCLA and
a visiting professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Fr. Richard has served on juries at the Venice, Berlin, Warsaw, Hong Kong, Montreal, Brisbane and Melbourne International Film Festivals and he has lectured on faith and culture all over the world. He has been published in America Magazine, Eureka Street, US Catholics, is regular columnist with The London Tablet and is a regular guest on ABC Radio and he is the author of nine books.
Our Parish MissionWITH FR. RICHARD LEONARD SJPlease join us Monday through Wednesday, April 1, 2, 3, at 7:00 pm in the Church.
THANK YOU!The HNJ community would like to thank Tamila Hennessy for her 14 years of service as our Ministry to the Sick Coordinator.
While she will still serve as an MTS volunteer, she is stepping down from the coordinator position to spend more time with family. Please direct all questions and calls pertaining to Ministy to the

What is Helping Hands?CRS Helping Hands is a Catholic volunteer and formation event that allows participants to serve their brothers and sisters overseas in a tangible way. Together, volunteers package meals to send to people who suffer from chronic hunger as a result of cyclical drought and flooding in the African nation of Burkina Faso.
Why do the meals go to Burkina Faso?Burkina Faso suffers from cyclical droughts and flooding. Most people in Burkina Faso depend on
subsistence farming, making it difficult to grow food or earn a living during times of natural disaster. Currently, there is not enough food in the country to feed
all who are hungry. Since the beginning of the program in 2012, CRS has packaged more than 4 million meals for Burkina Faso.
How much of my donation goes to the food?100% of your donation goes to CRS Helping Hands which includes the food, the shipment and distribution of meals as well as funding development projects
that help solve long-term hunger. More than a typical aid program, we work to strengthen the communities where we send our food, helping people to experience the basic right of being self-sufficient.
What are the Big Boards? Our Big Boards are a fun and interactive way for us to track donations and ensure we raise the $30,000 needed to package 60,000 meals. Choose a number from 1-150 (or 200, 250, 500) and donate that amount. Once all the squares on both Big Boards are filled
we will have the funds we need for our project!
When do I help package meals? All ages are welcome to help us package meals on Sun, Mar 31-We still have space at our 8:30-9:45 am shift time..
How do I register or donate? You can online at: https://helpinghands.crs.org/events/holy-name-of-jesus-fl-march-2019/ or scan the below qr code with your smart phone.
CRS Helping Hands UPDATEJOIN US ON SUNDAY, MARCH 31We have reached 53% of our $30,000 goal needed to package 60,000 life saving meals for the people of Burkina Faso, West Africa. There’s still time to donate! Visit us this weekend in the Atrium or donate online at https://helpinghands.crs.org/events/holy-name-of-jesus-fl-march-2019/. The Living Last Supper - Presented By HNJ Players TUES, APR 16, 7:30-8:30 PM Please join us for this very special dramatization during Holy Week, which was last presented at HNJ in 2008. Admission is free and open seating in the church begins at 7:00 pm, for the 7:30 presentation. Directed by Terry Lynch; Music direction by George Kobosko with musical excerpts from the Cantata "Via Crucis", written by Jim Burley.
The Living Last Supper was written by Methodist Pastor Earnest K. Emurian in 1953 and published in a collection of plays in 1954.

UnplannedJoin us for this inspiring true story of one woman's journey of transformation. The movie is playing at Cinema World 16 US 192 in West Melbourne. Tickets have already been purchased (donations accepted) on Sun, Mar 31 at 6:30 pm; Thurs, Apr 4, at 7:00 pm; Sun, Apr 7 at 6:30 pm; and Mon, Apr 8 at 7:00 pm.
All Abby Johnson ever wanted to do was help women. As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, she was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women about their reproductive choices. Her passion surrounding
a woman's right to choose even led her to become a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause she so deeply believed in. Until the day she saw something that changed everything, leading Abby Johnson to join her former enemies at 40 Days For Life and become
one of the most ardent pro-life speakers in America.
Unplanned is the most important movie you'll ever see on the most controversial issue of our time. No matter which side of the fence you're on, no one will leave this film unmoved.
Please be aware that the movie is rated R. Due to some "graphic images" parental guidance is recommended.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY NEWSWhen you donate a few cans of food to the pantry, are you really doing anything to help the poor? Is this just a gesture? Are your donations of food or money alleviating poverty? Honestly, the answer has to be “no”. We are not out to end world poverty. We can’t do it. But we can help individual, specific people through some tough times. More importantly, your individual acts of charity, if done with the proper motivation, can have a positive impact on you. The primary mission of SVdP is not to help the poor—it’s to enhance the spirituality of its members. So too, your act of compassion and love for others is the primary benefit of your giving. You become more Christ-like. You become more blessed. You become more pleasing in the eyes of God.
SOUTH BREVARD COUNTY’S ANNUAL GOOD FRIDAY PRAYER WALK The walk begins at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 9:00 am (ends there at 11:00 am) on Fri, Apr 19. We will stop for Scripture, prayer and song at several sites that represent our poor and voiceless brothers and sisters here and around the world, such as the cold night shelter at His Place Ministries, Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and the Veterans Housing Facility.
