From our minister to students… Social media is a fascinating tool that has been thrust into most of our lives over the past 15 or so years. Just in this mil-lennium, we’ve had dozens of social media platforms to choose from ranging from Myspace and Facebook to Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. On one hand, within the world of smart phones and social media, I’ve seen people become very disengaged with the real world. Just by visiting a restaurant and looking around, you can see many people more interested in a 6.5-inch screen than who they are eating dinner with. On the other hand, we have never been more connected with the entire world than we are right now. Just last week, my cousin and her husband had their first child, a son. He was born al-most 300 miles away from me and I almost immediately got to celebrate with them as they posted pictures of him on Face-book. One of my best friends from college currently lives in the heart of Los Angeles, CA and I recently got to celebrate his engagement from 1,930 miles away. He almost immedi-ately uploaded a video to Instagram of him proposing and her saying yes. As I said, we live in a connected world, more so than ev-er before in history and as the years go by, we will only be-come more connected. Cell towers and WI-FI hotspots are being placed in locations every day that have never had relia-ble services. My question I would like all of you to consider is simply this, “What are you doing with this constantly growing connectivity?” Mark 16:15 says, “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” It has never been easier to share with “the whole creation” the love of Jesus. I am well aware than many peo-ple reading this will never have the opportunity to go overseas on a mission trip. Many people reading this will never go to another country, continent, or people group to bear witness to the saving grace of Christ. However, each and every one of us have a calling and a mission to be an ambassador for Jesus, carrying His message to the masses. At the time of writing this, there are over 100 million people on Instagram and over 1 billion people on Facebook. That makes Instagram the 13th most populated country on the planet and Facebook the 3rd. Facebook has more than three times the population of the United States.
We all have an incredible opportunity to witness to the masses unlike generations before us. Please don’t take that for granted. Go to your neighbors. Go to your coworkers. Go to your friends and family. Tell them all about Jesus. Then go to the world. Use every available tool God has placed at your disposal for His glory and honor.
