When you get “the call”…

Normal life is full of PAINFUL stuff.

GRIEF is the natural process of

dealing with painful stuff.

• Lazarus was ill (vv.1-2)

• Jesus was called, but delayed (vv.3-6)

• Lazarus died (vv.11-15)

– In this painful episode, Jesus had a greater purpose.–The disciples, the family and the

neighbors did not know or understand His purpose.

• Jesus met Martha (vv.20-27)

• Jesus met Mary (vv.29-32)

• Jesus wept with them (vv.33-37)

– In this painful episode, each griever had to process the information individually. – Jesus was there with them through it all.

• Looking for any kind of COMFORT (11:3)

• Tempted to ACCUSE God of wrongdoing (11:21, 32)

• Desiring God to “PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS” (11:22)

• Overlooking TRUTH that you already know, looking for some other ANSWER or fix (11:23, 24, 27)

• Feeling OVERWHELMED or depressed, ready to quit (11:16, 20)

• Expressing strong EMOTIONS, weeping (11:31, 33, 35, 38)

super-natural process of dealing with painful stuff.
