Prismacolour colour pencils

Lyra colour pencils

Lyra Color Giants are a classic among the big coloured pencils and have already inspired

many children. The highly pigmented extra thick lead gives the colours their famous gigantic intensity.

The break-resistant and long-lasting lead provides durability. Lyra Color Giants are especially suitable

for larger works. The colours are both smudge proof and waterproof

● The Fish Creek Hotel Fish

Fish Creek’s famous mullet has come down from its perch atop the Fish Creek Hotel for gutting and re-

skinning, before being released back onto the roof to live again!!

The iconic fish is now tucked safely away in artist, Colin Suggett's, workshop at Venus Bay.

Twenty-six years ago, when Colin supervised installation of the fish, he didn’t know how long it could

last there. Now, after withstanding two-and-a-half decades of wild South Gippsland weather, the fish

needs some renovation.

Colin had originally made the fish as part of an installation he created at the old Mount Gambier

limestone quarries. Once the project was over, Colin had a big fish on his hands.

“I didn’t see much demand for a very large fish,” said Colin, “so I was pretty pleased when the publican

asked me if he could buy it.”

A few years ago it became obvious that if the fish was to preserve its spot in the hearts of locals and

visitors, then substantial renovations were needed. Scales were bending and falling off, the tail was

dissolving, and each time a gale came in, Colin was worried that the fish might go out.

On hearing Colin’s concerns, and with support from publican brothers, Terry, Kevin and Simon Peavey,

the Prom Coast Arts Council set about raising funds for the restoration project.

Donations from locals and visitors, along with a contribution from the Lyrebird Arts Council, have

made it possible for Colin to carry out restorative work on the fish.

Colin is hoping to have renovations finished and the much-loved mullet back in its familiar spot on the

hotel roof within four to eight weeks, depending on how much structural work needs doing. But, for

now, the Fish Creek fish is on ice. - Article written by Tony Walker.
