I started out choosing an object that I thought had something to do with community. To me, my glasses are extremely important, since without them, I wouldn’t be able to see. I think that people who wear glasses feel a sense of community with each other. We all go through the same struggle of wearing glasses and not being able to see without them.

Here is an image of my glasses. The form and shape of them really inspired me.

Here is an image of the apple that our professor gave us, which came from his garden. I liked the bumps on the apple.

 

Prior to creating the 3-D wire sculptures, we were asked to draw the object several times, showcasing each face. We drew lines and tried to blind draw the object, trying to show the dimensions of the apple and our object. I found this to be a good way of putting down my visual thoughts of the 3D wire sculpture onto paper. We then went ahead and created 2D wire sculptures of our object of choice, which were glasses for me.

The process of creating a 3-D wire was quite difficult. Wire is a medium that I haven’t worked with ever in my life so this was quite a challenging task. It took numerous tries to figure out how to connect joints and how to really create a 3D form.

I am quite happy with the results. I think I could have made the frame more three-dimensional like the legs of the glasses. I do like the joints I made on my apple, they really pop-out and looks visually stimulating. I’ve learned quite a lot of new techniques with wire. I finally know how to connect wire and create joints. I also learned that the width of the wire and color of the wire can change the whole look of the object.
