I Stand Amazed in the Presence

Charles H. Gabriel was raised on a farm in Iowa. His father taught singing schools in the home and Gabriel grew rather fond of music. It’s even said that he taught himself how to play the reed organ. As a teenager, Gabriel began to teach his own singing schools, compose hymns, and edit collecGons of songs.

Gabriel wrote over 7000 songs, 35 gospel collecGons, 41 Christmas cantatas, and many other Sunday School song books and collecGons. Some of his most well known hymns include: Send the Light the Blessed Gospel Light, His Eye is On The Sparrow, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, and O That Will Be Glory for Me.

I Stand Amazed in the Presence was wriMen in 1905 and first published in E.O. Excell’s collecGon, Praises. It is someGmes found in hymnals with the Gtle, “My Savior’s Love.” According to the Rev. Carlton R. Young, editor of The United Methodist Hymnal, this hymn was based on the story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The Bible says that God loves us more than we can even imagine. His love is never-‐ending and unfailing. In Genesis 1:27, it says that He created us in His very image. That makes us AMAZINGLY, WONDERFULLY, and MARVELOUSLY special to Him.

On the next page you will find blank hearts. Use some of the verses from below (or some of your favorites) and write them on the hearts. Then decorate the hearts and hang them in your bedroom. This will be a reminder of how much God loves you, even when you don’t feel loved.
