  1. 1. Question 7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?By Abbey Waitt
  2. 2. Preliminary Production
  3. 3. ProductionPreliminary
  4. 4. Progression The improvements I wanted to make during my progression from my preliminary task was done so, the improvements are as followed: (the almost similar images with basic lighting of the same person could have been adapted by using more dramatic lighting, or by changing the costumes of the models used. Not only do the images on the preliminary look basic and poor lighting, they could have also be improved by manipulating them on Photoshop. I dont like the font and the colours used, so on my production I changed this, however I did like the simplistic style of my preliminary so I kept that the same on my production. But as you can see from my final production I have learnt a lot more skills and have developed over the production). As you can see in my final production I have Used a great range of different types of shots (long Shots, medium shots, and close ups). Also I have Experimented using different lighting which portrays A contrast of lighting. The house style has carried on Through the production, I like the house style because Its quite simplistic and neutral colours. I also Experimented using different font styles so that it would Show the importance of some text and not others. I have manipulated the main image on the front cover To make the skin look more flawless and pale, so it really Shows the contrast of the shadowing and the highlights.
  5. 5. Learning Other factors I feel I have learnt during the process is using Photoshop. One example is learning how to create a drop shadow on my text, this was useful when I was trying to add text over my main image on the front cover, I found it allowed the text to stand out more and for the image to still be seen. Example of the drop shadow shown bellow. by using this technique the text isnt so dull or flat
  6. 6. The complexity of my layout has changed also, as I learnt how to add and more layers. Before I didnt know how to use the layers, so I wouldnt use many, but now I know how to use them and how to change the positioning of them to the importance and where they should be added in. The complexity has increased also by learning how to include conventions, which I never knew during my preliminary task. The techniques I wished use I was able to learn how to include them, for example quotes, coloured text box divisions and the line spacing and separation between letters to create variation. By following my own advise from the preliminary to the final production, I managed to stick to a structure when creating, always referring to the research, as I learnt that going with the flow created unorganised work and messy production, this would make it hard for me to create a professional production to a high standard. To do this I made shot list and sketches, and spoke to my target audience so I wouldnt differ between options.
  7. 7. I also learnt the importance of using a masthead. In my preliminary task my masthead was very basic and was very long winded, it was in the right hand corner in front of the image. I put it in front of the image because it would make it recognisable and because being a new magazine it will create brand awareness. The font I used was very basic and wasnt appealing didnt have an edgy feel. The colours I used as well wouldnt have appealed to my target audience or to both genders. Before choosing my final masthead I created a few examples and asked my focus group what they though about them, so my final masthead is the one which people liked the most.
  8. 8. All the things which Id learnt from my front cover and my contents page I was able to take with me to create my double page spread. My double page spread was easier to create because I already had the skills from the other 4 productions, so I was more skilled and new how to put it together.
  9. 9. Regarding my images I was able to learn how to create a professional eye catching image. I learnt how to position and light the face of my models through a lot of trial and error. But this enabled me to find the perfect image which would replicate a real magazine. When positioning the camera I had to change a few things such as the ISO, I learnt that one being out of place would effect the final outcome, so through reputation and watching tutorials on YouTube I was able to produce a professional image. You can see the difference between my preliminary images compared to my final production. I feel I have come a long way. Before After
  10. 10. In conclusion the final production had a much increase in quality and professionalism compared to my preliminary task. This is mainly because of the skills I gained through out the production, for example using the camera, setting up the correct lighting and also using Photoshop. Once I learnt all of these things I was able to produce better images and make them to a high standard.
