OCIO 21/09/2006

Starting this afternoon and until Sunday afternoon, the

equestrian facilities of Chapín will hold the first edition of the

Peninsula Polo Cup, a sporting event organised by the Jerez

Polo Club in collaboration with the company Peninsula and

which, of course, has the support of the Council of Sports, whose

delegate, Mr Alfonso García, has encouraged the people of

Jerez and visitors alike to attend this “totally free” event and

to become better familiarized with this sport “and the world

of horses, so important in the life of our city”.

This is the fourth year the Jerez Polo Club organizes a

championship coinciding with the Fiestas de Otoño (Autumn

Celebrations), as the president of the Jerez Club, Mr Lorenzo

Díez, said, “keeping the slightly lower profile than the Feria

del Caballo, so as to encourage more Spanish players to

participate and promote this sport in the region”.

The Cup, the first held at this location, will be played on an

all-against-all league basis, with the participation of four teams.

The first game, between Capial and Ké, will take place this

Luciano Irazabal and Ignacio Llorente), Capial (Carlos Piñal,

The first edition of the Peninsula Polo Cup, which was held

last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Equestrian facilities

of Chapín, finished yesterday. The game featuring Brandy de

Jerez versus Ké ended in a 4-4 draw, whereas Peninsula beat

Capial by 4-2. Thus, the final classification is as follows:

Capial won the Peninsula Cup with four points, followed by

Ké, with three points, which won the trophy awarded by the

Jerez City Hall, Brandy de Jerez, also with three points but a

lower goal count, which won the Osborne trophy, and

Peninsula, with two points, which won the La Bocha trophy.

In the individual section, the mare Florencia, ridden by the
