Set amidst the pageantry of the
city’s Autumn Festival, the tournament will
be an athletic and social celebration as
well as play witness to the sport’s
resurgence in the location of its first
introduction on Spanish shores over
130 years ago. First presented to the
region by King Alfonso XIII in 1872, the
sport of polo has retained an elite
status in Jerez de la Frontera, a city
whose history and culture are closely
linked to the equestrian world. Though
largely absent from the Jerez sporting
and social scene for past half century,
the noble sport of kings has seen a
dramatic resurgence over the last year
with the reappearance of the Jerez
Polo Club and the arrival of this month’s
inaugural Peninsula Cup.
Located just minutes inland from
the famed Costa del Luz, Jerez de la
Frontera is a slice of Spanish heritage.
The city, which is the original home
of Sherry, also acts as a centre of
equestrian activity, most notably in the
form of their annual Feria del Caballo,
or Horse Fair, held each May.
An established property developer
in the south of Spain with more than
30 years of experience, Peninsula is the
tournament’s most involved sponsor
and has been increasingly active in the
Je rez communi ty . Mos t notab ly ,
Peninsula is putting the finishing touches
on the exquisite community of golf villas
known as Montecastillo.

This is the fourth year the Jerez Polo Club organizes a
championship coinciding with the Fiestas de Otoño (Autumn
