(Clip from Western Oil Derrick,

WICHITA FALLS, Aug. 16.

An interesting story comes from

the Red River country regarding

Captain Anderson, an officer of

the British army who hastened to

America after the signing of the

armistice as soon as he could secure

his release. He had been reading

of oil development in Oklahoma

and Texas and upon arrival in NewYork in May bought a ticket for

Wichita Falls. Arriving there he

had but $50 left. Part of this he

used in an investment that proved

profitable. The new money was

turned back into other property.

Captain Anderson took an inven-

tory the other day and announced

that he had made about $250,000

out of the $50.

BARGAINAllen County Lease For Sale

1 own the lease in Allen County, Kentucky, known as the E. J. Hooten lease, and which is

shown on all authentic blue prints of the Allen county oil fields. The lease contains 100 acres, is

easy of access and lies in proven territory, situated about 1J4 miles Southeast of Scottsville, and

is only about 1J4 miles from the famous Hooten lease, now owned by the Seaboard Oil Com-

pany, and which recently sold for approximately $150,000.00. This lease is also in close prox-

imity to the famous McReynolds lease. Both these last named leases are known to all oil men to

he two of the most valuable leases in Kentucky. I bought this lease when prices were not so

high as at present, with the expectation of drilling immediately, hut Government work with

which I am connected, has rendered this impossible, and this lease is now for sale. This is a

genuine bargain for some responsible party as I will sell at a lower figure than is generally asked

for property that has the same advantages of locality. This is a most excellent lease for com-

panies desiring to increase their acreage, or for a new company that desires to acquire acreage in

a proven territory. Will sell for cash or credit with approved security. No one hut responsible

parties need apply.

they have almost ceased to cause any

surprise or comment.

The Bed Rock Oi! Company's well on

the Arnett farm, on Burning Creek, is

due to come in about Friday and is ex-

pected to make oil.

Many new locations have been made,

some of which are as follows : Little

Paint Creek Oil Co., Northup farm;

N. P. Howard, Dan Davis farm on

Colvin Branch; Hondel & Arnold. Jeff

Ramey farm, Mud Lick Creek; Caudill

Creek; unknown parties on farm of R.

W. Picklesimer, Rig Mud L’ck Creek:

a New York syndicate on the farm of

James Pelphrey, Barnett’s Creek, and

Snyder & Stafford on Gullett Branch.

Several new machines are arriving at

Paintsville, which is the shipping point

for this section, the location for which

will be reported next week, as the loca-

tions in several instances have not been

made known as yet.

Oil men from all sections are coming

in daily, and the outlook here was

never in the history of the business one-
