The Green H i l l house is a Flemish bond b r i ck , two-story s t r u c t u r e with a gable roof, modillioned cornice and two i n t e r i o r end chimneys. The c e n t r a l en t rance o f the five-bay f r o n t has double doors with a two row transom. Architrave moldings frame the nine-over-nine sash windows but only a course of rowlock-laid b r i c k serves a s the l i n t e l . The r e a r e l l is one s t o r y bu t a l s o has a gable roof with modillioned cornice and the brickwork c l o s e l y follows the techniques of the main block. Were i t not f o r the obvious break a t t he connection of the two u n i t s one.would assume t h a t they both had been b u i l t a t the same time. The r e a r e l l a l s o has a double door on the e a s t f r o n t which i s she l t e red by a fu l l - l eng th porch supported by rounded b r i c k columns.
The i n t e r i o r i s based on a s tandard c e n t r a l h a l l plan but not only is the re a s t a i r i n t h i s h a l l but a l s o i n the e a s t room. The west room has a f u l l y paneled chimney w a l l with cupboards and g l a s s doors t o e i t h e r s ide . P i l a s t e r s frame the f i r e p l a c e and support a cornice s h e l f . The e n t a b l a t u r which was around the top of the w a l l is of an extremely p rov inc ia l design includes reeding and a cut-out sec t ion i n the form of ecal loping. The roo i n the r e a r e l l f ea tu res a magnificent mantel design on the north wall w i t t h r e e l e v e l s of cornice s h e l f and three-sect ioned f r i e z e r i s i n g t o the c e i l i n g . The cab le design is used here i n the cornice designs a s we l l a s t h e c h a i r r a i l .
The numerous outbuildings f o r the most p a r t a r e located on two " s t r ee t s " , the f i r s t being the approach from the south and the second, the l ane running t o the eas t . On t h i s eas t e rn f r o n t a r e located a r a t h e r r e s i d e n t i a l looking b r i c k s t r u c t u r e , a frame outbui ld ing with a p a r t i a l l y enclosed shed porch i n f r o n t , a b r i ck duck house, an i c e house, a ki tchen, s tone laundry and a frame s l ave qda r t e r s . The frame ki tchen has a magnificent s tone chimney which conta ins three separa te f i r e p l a c e openings and is e ighteen f e e t wide, the f u l l length of the gable end. The mounting block i s a l s o located c l o s e t o the house on t h i s s ide . On the south f r o n t along the approach a r e two log barns composed of hewn timbers and t h e r u i n s of a r a t h e r l a r g e s tone s t a b l e . A few hundred yards t o the south e a s t o f the main house s tands a l a rge tobacco barn, f i f t y by s i x t y f e e t , and a granary, both being composed of s tone and wood. Linking t h i s complex o f s t r u c t u r e s together is a network of s tone walkways, s i x f e e t wide with curbing, most o f which remains uncovered.

front section added soon after. It was built by Samuel Pannill on land in Campbell County north of the Staunton River, the original portion of which he bought in 1797. Pannill was a member of the Virginia General ~ s s e m b i ~ from Campbell County, on the Board of Public Works, and president of the Roanoke Navigation Company. The Green Hill plantation
