So, are we sinning by worrying? Are we ignoring the teachings of Christ by being concerned about this thing or that? No. Generally speaking, I think we would all do well to give up a bit of our worries, but it isn’t a faith essential. However, I do believe we can show a lack of faith if we allow our worry to lead us to focus on what might have been and who is at fault for whatever has happened. We show a lack of faith if we allow our lives to come to a screeching halt because something – that we know full well can change at any time – changes when we expect it least. My last newsletter article. As I sit and type, I do not know who

will be writing the July newsletter article. However, that’s okay.

This transition hit us all upside the head, and in many ways we

are still reeling. The added concern of who will fill the pulpit at

Door Village does not help, but that’s okay. I don’t know how

many of my new parishioners will react to a pastor who wears

bowties and sports tattoos, and that’s okay.

If you’re saying to yourself, “Why does he keep telling me

that it’s okay?”, I’ll explain why.

As people of faith, we have to – at some point – begin to

learn the lessons of our faith, passed down to us from Christ,

himself. Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow. Now, you

might be one of those rare individuals who just doesn’t ever

worry about anything, and I am thankful people like you exist.

However, most of us worry about things from time to time. So,

are we sinning by worrying? Are we ignoring the teachings of

Christ by being concerned about this thing or that?

No. Generally speaking, I think we would all do well to give

up a bit of our worries, but it isn’t a faith essential. However, I do

believe we can show a lack of faith if we allow our worry to lead

us to focus on what might have been and who is at fault for

whatever has happened. We show a lack of faith if we allow

our lives to come to a screeching halt because something – that

we know full well can change at any time – changes when we

expect it least.

So, let’s feel our feelings – hurt or angry as we may be – and

experience our grief. Then, we prepare for what’s next.

The first Sunday in June is Pentecost. We celebrate this day

as the “birthday” of the church. Jesus ascended into heaven

and the disciples – led by someone other than Jesus – went on

to change the world, by the power and presence of the Holy

Spirit.

Now, I’m no Jesus, but the Holy Spirit is still present with us.

Helping us. Guiding us. Let’s trust the Spirit for what tomorrow

will hold. All of us.

Peace,
