I INTERNATIONAL MARIMBA

GENERAL CONDITIONS

The 1st edition of the Concurs Internacional de Marimba organized by Factoria del Ritme and as part of the V Trobada de Percussió de Pollença is open to all percussionists born after May 1st 1994, regardless of gender or nationality. There are no exceptions to this rule.

REGISTRATION

1. Candidates must register directly on our website: www.trobadadepercussio.com

2. Application deadline is March 1st, 2020.

3. Registrations will only be considered as confirmed when the following documents have been received:

• Personal ID or Passport (confirmation of the candidate’s age).

• Brief resume, 500 characters maxim. (studies, academies, professors, prizes…).

• The complete program proposed by the candidate for the three rounds.

• Two pictures in high definition (300dpi).

• Private link to Youtube or Vimeo with the video recording of the First Round.

REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee for the I Concurs Internacional de Marimba is 40€.

The registration fee is refundable under no circumstances. The application will not be valid unless proof of payment is confirmed. The registration fee must be payed through bank transfer to the following account:

ACCOMMODATION, MEALS, TRANSPORT EXPENSES & INSURANCE

The candidates will be responsible of their own accommodation, as well as meals and transport to and from Mallorca. The candidates will also be responsible of their travel insurance and any insurance linked to the professional material they might travel with. The organization of the competition will take care of transports between Palma de Mallorca’s airport (PMI) and the city of Pollença, location of the competition.

Candidates will be able to choose from the following marimba brands:

• Yamaha

• Bergerault

• Adams

ROUNDS

The competition will consist of three rounds, the first one being the presentation of a video recording. All rounds will be eliminatory.

The repertoire for the three rounds will be:

1st ROUND (video recording)

1. One work at free choice (max. 10’)

2nd ROUND (May 1st, 2020)

1. J. S. Bach: one fast movement from the six suites for violoncello, sonatas and partitas for violin and lute suites.

2. 1 piece to choose among the following list:

• P. Klatzow, Dances of Earth and Fire

FINAL ROUND - Max. 3 finalists - (May 2nd, 2020)

1. 1st Movement of Concerto for marimba and orchestra by Darius Milhaud.

2. One work at free choice (max. 10’)

*possibility to play with electronics and/or video

Results will be announced at the end of each round. The decisions of the jury are final and there is no right of appeal. The jury may also consider to not award one or several prizes.

PRIZES

1st PRIZE

1. Concert as a soloist with the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears - OSIB, sharing concert program with the jury’s president: Philippe Spiesser.

• The concert will be celebrated during the 2020-2021 season and the winner will perform the following Marimba Concerto: Concerto for marimba and orchestra by Darius Milhaud.

• The foundation Fundació Guillem Cifre will be responsible of the winner fee for the performance of this concert.

• The orchestra OSIB will be responsible of the travel expenses, accommodation and meals.

2. Diploma.

3. Free registration for the VI Trobada de Percussió de Pollença 2021.

2nd PRIZE

1. MUSICASA will award with 400€.

2. Diploma.

3. Free registration for the VI Trobada de Percussió de Pollença 2021.

BEST PERFORMANCE PRIZE (FINAL ROUND) - AUDIENCE PRIZE

1. Pustjens Percussion Products will offer a 250€ check.

2. Diploma.

3. Free registration for the VI Trobada de Percussió de Pollença 2021.

PRACTICE ROOMS IN POLLENÇA

From April 30th to May 2nd, Factoria del Ritme will organize practice rooms for the candidates so that further preparation is possible after arrival in Pollença. Try out sessions on the concert hall will be also arranged. The schedules for the practice and try out sessions will be organized after the pre selection.

RECORDINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHIES

The candidate waives all and any rights to audio/video recordings as well as radio/television/internet broadcasts of public sessions of the Concurs Internacional de Marimba.

LOCATION

Both 2nd Round and Final Round will be held at the Concert hall of Port de Pollença, C/Tramuntana núm. 2, 07470 Port de Pollença.
