TOE-IN CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT
Farmall Models
A. Axle clamp bolt B. Pin C. Tie rod clamp bolt D. Tie rod tube
The front wheels should have l/4-inch (± l/16-inch) toe-in, that is, l/4-inch closer together in the front than in the rear. To check the toe-in, with the tractor on level ground and the wheels in the straight-ahead position, place chalk marks on the rims at points "F" at the same height as the hub caps and measure the distance between them. Move the tractor forward a distance equal to one-half revolution of the front wheels. The chalk marks will now be at points "G". The measurement at points "G" should be l/4-inch (± l/16-inch) greater than at points "F".
2-2
E. Locknuts F. Check point G. Check point
To adjust the toe-in, remove the clamp bolts "e" from the tie rods and loosen the lock nuts sufficiently to allow the tie rod tubes "D" to turn freely. Turn the tie rod tubes one turn at a time to shorten or lengthen as required. Left and right tie rods should be adjusted by equal amounts (not more than one turn difference), so that the steering gear arm will remain centered and not limit left or right turns. Clamp bolts "C" must be installed again to check toe-in. Tighten bolts "C" and tie rod lock nuts when specified toe-in is obtained.

FLOW DIVIDER .....•.••........•.....•.....•....•.... 3-32
GENERAL INFORMATION
The hydrostatic power steering system uses an engine driven pump, a manually operated pump, a flow divider, relief valve, pilot control valve and a double acting hydraulic cylinder. The purpose of this section is to explain the functions of each of these parts and how they work together to provide positive steering with or without the engine running.
There is no mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the front wheels.
3-2
Instead, a closed hydraulic circuit, independent of the engine driven pump, is al ways connected with the steering cylinder.
A manual pump, driven by turning the steering wheel, develops several hundred psi to activate this closed circuit if engine or pump fail. The instant conversion from engine assist to manual pump closed circuit operation, is accomplished by a specially designed control valve.

Brake pedal adjustment (I nternational Models).
12-3
When the pedal free travel reaches approximately 4-1/2 inches (Farmall Models) 3-3/4 inches (International Models), adjust the brakes as follows:
1. Remove the four capscrews and cover from one of the brake housing covers. Remove one .030 inch shim from between the cover and brake housing and replace the cover.
NOTE: On early Farmall Models some .060" shims were used. These should be replaced by .030" shims to allow for more accurate adjustment.
2. Use the same procedure on the opposite brake unit. Then adjust the operating rod ball to equalize brakes as follows:
a. Loosen jam nut "A" back-off the brake operating rod ball "B" so as to allow the internal springs to centralize the actuating brake discs. Depress the pedal two or three times to make certain that discs have centered with respect to the balls. Now turn adjusting ball "B" in with fingers until it is snug against cone of pedal. Repeat this adjustment on the opposite brake. Now check for free movement of pedals which should be between 2-1/2 inches and 4-1/2 inches for Farmall Models, or between 1-3/4 inches and 3-3/4 inches for International Models.
b. If one pedal freely depresses more than the other, but less than 4-1/2 inches on Farmall Models or 3-3/4 inches on International Models adjusting ball "B" can be turned in until the free movements are equal. If the free movement of one or both pedals is in excess of 4-1/2 inches on Farmall Models or 3-3/4 inches on International Models it will be necessary to remove another shim and repeat the ball adjustment as covered above.
