Good Morning Lions! I hope that you have had a nice weekend and are ready for your second week of home
learning!
I have been monitoring our Times Table Rock Stars competition over the weekend and can see that we have two Rock Stars battling closely for first place! Keep earning those
points!
Monday 19th October 2020 I can use apostrophes within contractions. You can use apostrophes to show that you have omitted (left out) some letters when you are joining words together. For example you can join the words ‘you’ and ‘are’ together,
You + are = you’re.
The apostrophe takes the place of the removed letters. In this example, the letter a. Sometimes, you need to rearrange the letters a bit when you contract the words. For example,
will + not = won’t Using contractions like these makes your writing easier to read and more friendly. Watch the video clip below to help you -

Monday 19th October 2020 I can gather features of a newspaper report. Newspaper reports are printed in newspapers, or published online, to help keep us informed about important things that are happening all around the world. Watch this clip to learn more about what is included in a newspaper report. When writing a newspaper report, you should: • Include a short and snappy headline. • Write a sentence at the start to sum up what the story is about. • Write in the third person (he, she, they). • Write in the past tense (it has already happened). • Use paragraphs to make the text clear and easy to read. • Include quotes (other people’s thoughts and opinions about the subject) • Include facts about what has happen using the 5 Ws (what, where, when, who, why?
You could also include a photo with a caption to give the reader more information.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z9jgn9q
It is important not to confuse facts and opinion when you’re writing a newspaper report. Facts are the true details about what has happened, they can be researched and proved to be correct. For example, Russia is the largest country in the world. Newspaper reports contain lots of facts. One way they do this is by answering the 5 Ws: what, where, when, who, why? Opinions are what people think. People can have lots of different opinions and often disagree with each other. An example of an opinion could be: Chocolate ice cream is tastier than strawberry ice cream. When you include an opinion from someone in a newspaper report, you should put it in inverted commas (speech marks) and name the person who said it. This makes it clear that it is what someone believes and is not a fact.
Decide which of the sentences are facts and which are opinions: 1. The penguins were caught on CCTV escaping their enclosure at 12.05 am.
2. Paris is the most romantic city.
3. London Bridge crosses the River Thames.
4. Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd.
5. The elephants are the best animals to see on a safari.
Check your answers below-

Today you are going to use the newspaper report in your pack to try and find the features. Here is a features grid, can you find these features in your newspaper report?
If you don’t have the colours in the features grid above, underline them with your pen and annotate with the features around the edges. This will help you this week when you start planning and writing your own.
19.10.2020 I can complete questions involving addition. Addition appears in many different ways in mathematics – today you are going to focus a number of ways you may see addition within arithmetic. Adding using the columnar method – Adding decimals – You can use the column method to add decimals, make sure you have lined your decimals points correctly and you have used your knowledge of place value.

19.10.2020 I can divide by a one digit number. Division means splitting into equal parts or groups. Watch this short video to recap the
basics of division. Example:
69÷3 = 23
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/znfj7nb
3 69 2 3
We now look at the outside number and see how many times it will go into the following digits.
3 will go into 6, 2 times so we put the 2 above the line (keeping our columns in line).
3 will go into 9, 3 times so we put the 3 above the line (keeping our columns in line).
We can use the same method, no matter how big the number is. 2544÷4 = 636
4 2 5 4 4 6 3 6
We look at the outside number and see how many times it will go into the following digits.
4 won’t go into 2, so we need to carry the two over and make 25 instead. Then we see how many groups of 4 that you make in 25.
As 4 X 6 = 24 there is a remainder of 1, this gets carried over to the 4 to make 14.
2 1 2
As 4 X 3 = 12 there is a remainder of 2, this gets carried over to the 4 to make 24.
Have a go at some more on your squared paper - 1. 2125 ÷ 5 =
