COODINATORS’ EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE PAST / PRESENT

As Kathy and I completed our year as co-chairs of the Executive Committee, we recognized how much time and effort many of our membership have contributed to the APPD Coordinators’ Section.

The years race by and our membership grows and we easily forget some of these people who made sure we receive the recognition and the training we all deserve and the networking that provides the inspiration and supports our training.

You have just met the most recent and future members of the coordinator executive committee that you elected.

Let me remind you how this all started

I call them the COORDINATOR 15

COORDINATOR 15

Have you heard of this group?

Who was this group of women who decided time had come for coordinator recognition for jobs they had been doing for maybe 10 years or more?

It started with a privately run conference in 1993. 20 coordinators attended and found success in networking. They continued attending and networking……..

Then came an invitation from the APPD.

1996 – INVITATION TO APPD Let’s walk back a couple years to 1996. The logo for the APPD was just being developed New RRC requirements were being readied for implementation the next year. Dr. Carol Berkowitz was President of APPD and suggested why didn’t the

coordinators become a section of the 10-year old or so APPD. Thus was born the infamous Coordinator 15 – becoming the first Coordinator

Steering Committee and the originators of our APPD Coordinator Section. This group of 15 coordinators met in person . I can only imagine the talk surrounding

that table of 15 women. They felt very strongly that it had become increasingly important for coordinators to have an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills, and that they were the voice for recognition of the value of coordinators, and for our role and place in the APPD.

They were indeed breaking new ground.

THE END

Thank you for letting me take you on a little bit of a historical journey. I think it is as important to know what you have here in the Coordinators’ Section of the APPD as it is to get a suggestions on recruitment and resident management. I learned a lot just researching this rich history of the Coordinators’ Section.

Now, moving on. . .

One of these original Coordinator 15 had her sticky fingers in everything right from the beginning and does still. As chairperson of a steering committee to organize an APPD coordinators section, she worked with 14 other individuals. Then as the President of the TAGME, she was committed to extending certification to every pediatric coordinator, not for a raise, but for their personal fulfillment and accomplishment and recognition. She has won multiple awards and deservedly so. She personally got me through a very difficult site visit – I read your book, Jeri Whitten.
