Using WordPress as an Information Architecture tool.WordPress is a very popular content management system (CMS). It is often rated as the easiest CMS to set up and use, and leans heavily towards the use of blog posts. A CMS may be considered and Information Architect’s tool in that it can be used to build a demonstration site using a suitable theme, it can be quickly deployed to demonstrate a planned menu structure, published and tested with live users, and it can be an effective site building tool for blog based sites or for smaller sites. Junrei Travel is a demonstration site built in WordPress by the author for another course (http://olrc.ap01.aws.af.cm/ ). Because it can function as a fully set up site, it can provide a work flow from prototype to final site within the same software…

Using PowerPoint as an Information Architecture tool.As part of their arsenal of software tools, an Information Architect must be able to communicate ideas and designs visually (Duddy, 1999). While many dedicated tools exist, PowerPoint has some capability in this area as well. The distinctive of PowerPoint is that it is found on most business computers and is familiar to most clients. Those involved in small scale IA work will have the program ready to hand, and can share ideas with others confident that the files will load.

PowerPoint is noted as diagramming software by Morville and Rosenfeld (2007). Tomlin (2010) suggests PowerPoint for demonstrating grouping of content labels…
