* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. THE GATHERING Aaron Shepherd Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Intermezzo from Sonata No. 3 Joseph Rheinberger

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; People: For God has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Leader: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in God’s holy place? People: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their

souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. Leader: They will receive blessings from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their

salvation. Let us worship the Lord.

- Psalm 24:1-5

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy holy, holy Lord, you are the God of glory and worthy of joyful praise. We con-fess that we often underestimate your holiness and rather than worshipping you throughout the week, we forget you in the busyness, hide from you in our sin and make excuses for our actions and inaction. Forgive us and return us to a right relation-ship with you for the sake of Jesus Christ. You made us to glorify you and enjoy you forever. By the power of your Holy Spirit, help us fulfill our purpose in ways that bring you glory. Amen.

THE SERMON “Not in My House” Part II Drew Stockstill

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 455 All Creatures of Our God and King verses 1, 2, 5, 6

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: God destined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ, according to the good

pleasure of God’s will,

People: To the praise of God’s glorious grace, freely bestowed on us in

the Beloved.

Leader: In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,

according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us. Believe the promise of

the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia. Amen.

FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY

The flowers today are given to the glory of God in the memory of the birthday of Gail Peters by Jeff Peters and Michael Siedschlag.

SERVICE MUSIC

Today’s worship music features traditional Irish, English and Shaker carols arranged for handbells and strings. Be Thou My Vision is ar-ranged by Arnold B. Sherman and incorpo-rates the gently flowing Celtic melody of the beloved hymn utilizing beautiful harmonies and broken chord patterns. A Simple Dance is arranged by Michael Glasgow and combines the Shaker tune Simple Gifts (often referred to as Lord of the Dance) composed in 1848 by Joseph Brackett with the English carol Tomor-row Shall Be My Dancing Day in a lilting waltz.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

This morning Amelia Jane Millard will receive the sacrament of baptism. Amelia is the daughter of Amy and Brad, and the sister of Madelyn and Emmerson. MISSION CAMP THIS WEEK

MARK YOUR CALENDARS The phrase “This I Believe...” prompts vari-ous responses from all of us. Some think of Starbucks cups, others of Edward R. Murrow, and many of us re-member the services at MPC where fellow congregants told us what they held as core values. This I Believe Sunday, featuring Morn-ingside members speaking from their hearts, will be on Sunday, August 23. SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK-OFF

Sunday School Kick-off will be on September 13 this year, a little later than usual. Mark your calendars now! This will be the date that children move up to their new age groups. ALL CHURCH RETREAT

Save the dates on your calendar for our an-nual retreat to Montreat. We’ve reserved the weekend of October 16-18 in the North Carolina mountains. Our guest speaker will be The Reverend Paul Roberts, President of Johnson C. Smith Seminary.

Faith Development at Morningside

ADULT

This class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201. We will continue to follow our guided series of discussions on current topics. “Science and Faith” will be co-led by Carol Senf and Sarah Tomaka. As citizens of both a world of science and the kingdom of God, many of us struggle to in-tegrate what we learn from scientific advances against what we learn from scriptures, confessions and other aspects of our faith. Each week stands alone and will cover faith seeking understanding through science, the cosmos, the story of life, human beings, brain and mind, and technology and the future.

CHILDREN

The Preschool Class will hear the story Lions, Lions and learn how God honored Daniel's faithful-ness.
