Religion of Bön is the ancient traditional religion of the Tibetan people. Buddhism was introduced into Tibet

when King Songtsen Gampo married Princesses Wencheng from China, who came to Tibet with a statue of

Shakyamuni Buddha. Buddhism developed widely when Padmasambhava, whom is an Indian Buddhist scholars

and known as Guru Rinpoche, who visited Tibet at the invitation of Trisong Deutson- the 38th Tibetan king.

Tibetan, according to legend, originated from the union of a monkey and an ogress. Tibetans today see themselves

as descendants of these two progenitors, and believe that they have divided natures that result from the personalities

of the monkey and the ogress. This mythical event took place within a cave on Mt. Gonpo Ri, a ridge overlooking the

historic Yarlung Valley. Smaller tribal groups, such as the Monpa , Lhoba and Khampa, who follow a combination of

Tibetan Buddhism and spirit worship, are found mainly in the southeastern parts of Tibet.

Tibetan language is spoken in numerous regional dialects, which generally cannot be understood by the speakers of

the different oral forms of Tibetan. In general, the dialects of central Tibet (including Lhasa), Kham, Amdo and some

smaller nearby areas are considered Tibetan dialects. Other forms, particularly Dzongkha, Sikkimese, Sherpa, and

Ladakhi, are considered by their speakers, largely for political reasons, to be separate languages. Although spoken

Tibetan varies according to the region, the written language, based on Classical Tibetan, is consistent throughout.

The magnificent 3 floors building with original frescoes were blackened by smoke during the destruction of the 1960s.

The printing house contains exquisite images of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lineage-holds of the Sakyapa tradition. In

Second floor is the collection xylograph blocks, including the Derge editions of the kangyur; Tangyur; Nyimgma Gyudbum

and other works, which are constantly in demand throughout the town, villages and monasteries of Tibet
